- Grumpy is finally back! After getting knocked down pretty hard by pneumonia, Grumpy is finally rested up enough to get back out on some recovery jobs!
For this job I got called about an suv that was off the road and stuck in the snow. They said it had been there awhile because another tow company that showed up turned down the job. Due to some miscommunication about where the car was actually at, I thought the other company had turned it down because it was on one of the snowy side roads, but it turns out it was because there was no room to work safely on the side of the busy 55mph road. My general rule is that I don’t do side of the road/highway towing. It’s simply not worth the risk for me unless there is traffic control, law enforcement, or it’s a time of day or road with very little traffic. In a case like this where the vehicle has already been sitting for days, and no one is stranded there with it, I would simply turn down the job until the situation could be made safe, or another company with their own traffic control trucks can go do it.
Luckily in this case I spotted some tire tracks in the snow down near the vehicle and after checking them out, decided that I could take my wrecker down there to do the recovery from off the road.

I recently discovered your channel (search and rescue of family gets interesting). Then today I saw your video (you're being lied to about how you tubers make money). Not only did it answer my questions about why people would want to do you tube but also the many different ways they make money. I am 70 years old and not tech savvy at all. I never realized that channels made money other than by merchandise and patreon or tips. I am so dumb I just thought people liked to make videos to share with others. Never thought of it as a business. I mostly watched music reactions to old music that I grew up on, to see how younger generations would feel about it. Then I came across some power washing and yard working videos and was amazed at the satisfaction I got from watching the transformations they were doing. Then you showed up on my feed and after watching your two videos not only did you touch my heart with your integrity and selfless nature not to mention the beautiful scenery you are blessed to be a part of, I immediately had to subscribe. I am bedridden so I won't be needing any of the products you are sponsored by but I definitely will watch your videos and if I can get one of my sons to show me how to find and set up that bell thing you will become my first-time notification. I truly love what you are doing and the gorgeous scenery is an added bonus. I always wanted to retire near the Rockies in Colorado but wasn't meant to be. Casey while watching that TV show, "Highway To Hell," I agree with you 200%! Those truck drivers won't slow down for anything, OR, move over and give the tow trucks any room. That is soooo dangerous. If I was those tow truck drivers, I would not step outside my vehicle without the RCMP there. I wonder why those Canadian truck drivers are so reckless? Are the US truck drivers also so clueless? Where I live in SE Idaho, the trucks will at least move over to the other lane. Some of the 4 wheelers are clueless though.

My dislike for Subaru is the lack of ground clearance. 3 of the 4 I've rescued have been high centered.

Nice work driving that 2wd out. It's definitely a 4Runner. The light colored car you parked in front of is a Subaru Outback, which would have easily driven out of that spot. They won't make it out of everything, but they're better and more capable than most. Same with Audi Quattros.

Welcome back Grumpy!! We missed you! So glad to hear you kicked the pneumonia to the curb, ruthless stuff. Hmmmmmm going on a limb here that customer did not point out they were in between roads. That's pretty crucial info ladies. That pulled right out even after having sat for so long. These newer fandangled SUVs that ride so damn low are just not match for ruts. I have never rooted harder for a Toyota to make is Casey. Excellent job getting this car out. the new camera is rad how it follows you. So high tech.

Wife has a 2014 Crosstrek. Brand new tires and I'm still spinning in the snow. They are all weather Highway Tires not winter tires. And that's where the problem lies with most of these vehicles.
Honestly pretty impressive in the snow for a 2wd suv.
