Stranded in the wilderness and hanging off a cliff!! Deep woods search and rescue mission!

- I got a very poor connection call from a father and son who were stranded in the snow in the Ochoco National Forest without enough supplies to make it through the night. After getting some rough directions on how to get through mountains to their location I loaded up the off road recovery Jeep and headed out. The night turned into a wild adventure involving stuck friends, the local sheriffs, the search and rescue team, and even a wife in a mini van who was determined to make sure her husband made it home for bed time.

Never, ever underestimate a worried wife/mom. We will move heaven and earth to find & rescue a loved one. Even if we only have a minivan lol.
Glad he has a good wife ! My ex wife would have waited till spring thaw and then would have said " oh yeah, my husband went up there in the winter and never came back, do you want to try and find him ?
@@brucewinder6523 OMFG HAHAHA!
True that!

Great job tracking the lost truck with the wrong directions. Your calm demeanor made all situations better.
Not sure how I found this channel but I am happy I did! I just watched like an hour of you pulling cars out of the snow at 6AM for no real reason :)
You can admit that you enjoyed watching his content. It's a form of entertainment
@@AskAW Oh I enjoyed it :) It is highly entertaining!
same here, it is midnight for me tho. thought it would put me to sleep but, sitting on the edge of my seat
Same, I never knew how awesome and interesting this kind of stuff was untill I found this channel, now I watch all the time
Ya, I kinda feel bad about this, but I actually hope someone gets stuck in the snow so we can watch Casey pull them out.
This reminds me of a trip up Mt. Scott (Douglas County, Oregon) in the late 80's. My bf and I got stuck; had no option left except to walk. As we got around the corner below where we were stuck, we came across another stuck vehicle. As a group, we were able to get that vehicle out, and head down the hill. Before we got down out of the snow, picked up a couple more people who were also hopelessly stuck. Ended up driving back into Roseburg with like 6 other strangers in some random Blazer or something.
Quiet ride back. Everyone was exhausted and cold, grateful for the ride out, but also feeling mighty stoooopid. Not much said.
🙂
What, no 'spicy winter survival romance' novel comin' out of that one? Rip...
Grew up in Sutherlin!
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 Give it time, it'll become a bigfoot sighting story.
Fellow Oregonian. Unfortunate so many people do not understand the limits of their vehicles and themselves. Nor prepared if things go south. You are a good person.
Agreed, and it's the reason so many trails here are closed in winter.. too many people to recover.
I agree with you there sir!
@@gxor4x4 Where is “here”?
I blame it on the "you can go anywhere" advertising.
@@dennislaughton1676don’t think that’s the problem. This guy didn’t know what side was passenger
..."that's a ride or die chick right there"... 😂👍
I know that kinda gal! I married one almost 22 years ago... still the single best decision I ever made, and likely one I'll never top. These girls like this.... maaaan they're hard to find in my area. This one found me and dropped a line on me right quick. Not that I argued all that much.... erm... at all.
👍😁
I can't believe that lady made it that far in a Dodge minivan, but never underestimate the strength of mama when it comes to her family.
Kinda looked more like a
Durango to me. Could have been a Pacifica though.
Reminds me of our Dodge Ram mini van, I pulled through a 2 1/2 foot drift and went around a big box truck stuck in the road. He was shocked I offered to try to pull him out but he didn’t have a chain or snatch rope. But he had a wrecker coming.
I drive a Dodge Grand Caravan and I would never go onto roads like that with it. Even with good snow tires with studs on. What was she thinking.
@@billybrand I've seen a gen-2 Caravan/Voyager traverse ditches and 'staggering' (cleared then overgrown) land to collect someone who didn't manage to cross on foot. Dunno if that was AWD or FWD I saw,
but the driver's daughter inherited the bold confidence to take their family's other passenger cars off road - - But with -notably- _infamously_ less success, even *after* switching to seasonal tires.
It made me wonder if a minivan could be a good target for an off road/utility conversion.
This is one of your BEST , young man…..!!!! Loved every minute !!!
God bless the guy who had broken his back. He's out helping others!
"Mercy sakes alive, it looks like we got ourselves a convoy!" C.W McCall 1975
Love it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just found your channel, of course I subscribed. I caught myself leaning this way and that as you pulled cars out of the snow - as if I was helping 😂
I appreciate the help!
I found you this afternoon, your a very patient young man. Living in south Texas we don’t ever have this problem! You deserve a BIG medal for helping ppl that should have been home and not out on snow! Thank you sir for your kind service! 😊🌹🦋 I’ll keep watching 😊
That’s so weird she I find my self leaning, or worse, turn my phone to help. 😂
Lol lol lol lol me to. 🤣
Your sense of humor just got you another subscriber! I backed up and played that section for my wife. She absolutely loved it! Nice work bud. Very nice.
I live in Northern Ontario Canada. Learned a few things from this video. It's crazy though that people would go out to places like that with poor tires. I sure appreciate good snow tires with studs up here. Makes a big difference but not perfect. Thanks to all the folks like you and other rescue people like police, firefighters, paramedics as well as tow truck drivers who risk a lot to save us folks.
Thanks for illustrating that double-tree attachment method with your recovery ring - it has been added to my repertoire!
Good grief...I actually was on Reddit, watching power washing a snowy deck, and here I am.
Very interesting, so I'll stay here. Good job guys!
Tracker, snow rescue and kindness all in one video!👍😎 Love your videos, still catching up on your older ones!🎉 Thanks for the great content and stay safe out there!❤️🙏
Best video ever. Awesome save of two in the snow AND forstalling the wife in the van from rescuing her hubby and her also getting stuck in the snow. Love this!!
Awesome rescue with detective skills! A great channel to share with us. Thanks!
Nice work. I love the last part where the missus is strapped up in the minivan and and fixing to come get him herself. Ride or die indeed!
what a rescue! Off-grid is always tricky, I know that from personal experience. Your expertise and calm demeanor made this so successful! The wife in the van was the icing on the cake, so snow savvy too! Well done Casey!
..
So awesome to see an old Quadrasteer GMC still working!!!
So you aren't just a tow truck driver or a rescue team of one, you're also a tracker.
Gotta use all the tools available.
Nobody pays attention to how many right or left turns or how many intersections. They SHOULD, but they don't. I worked for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company many years ago, and my boss really knew the road system. One night I was in a section that I had never been in, and it was foggy, and I was lost. I called my boss on the radio and told him I was lost. The FIRST thing out of his mouth was, "where are you at?" I replied, "Roy, if I knew where I was at, I would not be lost!" LOL I would just drive around and when I came to an intersection, I would describe it to Roy. Within 2 intersections he knew where I was at, and sent me to where I needed to be.
@@Rat-Builder I've been there. At night it all looks completely different.
FYI, the 'minivan' is a new(ish) Dodge Durango. They have 4WD/AWD models. Nice job managing the recovery and getting everyone out fairly efficiently.
They had 4WD when Dodge built them as trucks. Only AWD is available now that Dodge is building them as minivans
Watching the instructions you gave and the response... You have the patience of a saint.... :)
Awesome video... keep them coming...!!!! That jeep is a way better jeep than these new $80k junk jeep...
Matt's got them ,you got it... I'm looking for an old jeep myself
I love my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 270,000 miles on it.
I hope you are fairly compensated for all you do, and calmly, too. Thanks for the videos.
Props to that rescue guy for his patience. He helped some people avoid winning the Darwin Award that night.
Should have waited a little while that woman in the mini van would have picked them all up. 😂 I laugh but my wife would do the same thing.
That first guy had one speed, on or off.
When you were telling him to give it a little gas, he roostered it every time. ;-)
You provide a great service. Even the most competent of travelers are gunna need a little help sometimes. Getting stuck in the snow recently to go look at some property I was considering to purchase was fun and games at first. I dug out and got stuck 20 feet later. This happened several times and all so amusing until the sun started to set and the temperature dropped by 15⁰F almost instantly. All I had was a 2'x2' piece of sheet metal to dig with; thank the Lord I had it. I was in a valley and had to go forward. I walked and pa cked the snow all the way up the hill and finally got out. Once out I couldn't stop to inspect the property and had to come back a few days later with my son. We got stuck 6 or 7 times but had fun and got to walk the whole property. We bought the property for more fun like this
...lol
I will bet that you had a shovel the second time.
@@Rat-Builder We brought two..lol. I'll try and have a small plow next year. Wait til it melts to cut the driveway.
@@christopherscott8853 LOL Once bitten twice shy! I carry quite a bit of survival equipment on my quad. I normally have a chain saw with one extra bottle of gas, a folding Army shovel, cordage, extra coveralls, snatch block, tow strap, Hand saw, large knife, hatchet, service manual for the machine, spare drive belt and enough tools to change it, 1.3 gallons of extra gas, zip ties, and last but NOT least, a Personal Locater Beacon.
@@Rat-Builder I'm more of a hiker than an off roader but do they make quad snow tires? Because my first thought was a snow machine in the near future. But a quad would be year round.
@@Rat-Builder A smart person! I can't imagine going out in the middle of nowhere unprepared for the worst case scenario.
I love how you give credit to the woman driving the minivan and I just found your channel but I just found this very interesting and it's really cool to see all the pretty snow and trees I'm sure you're not thinking that while you're out there but it is beautiful
It’s funny, your recoveries are never just a recovery. There is always something complicating matters, which you handle so calmly and expertly.
That lady wasn't driving a minivan, it was a Durango! A heavy beast with AWD and a Transfer case that has a "LOW" setting. Add proper winter tires and they are fantastic in snow and ice. p.s. LOVE your vid's.
Great Job, why would people be out in this type weather without chains? Crazy people should be glad your out there for them!
#1 Tire Track Detective!
Watching from Scotland and just down from main ski centre and highest A road in UK. We get snow each year and often close the snow gates to prevent folks driving over the pass when they shouldn’t. BUT each year we have folks still coming up the road in vehicles that shouldn’t be out in the snow PLUS just because you own a 4x4 truck doesn’t mean it’ll perform in the snow. If you don’t have winter tyres on it your gonna get stuck. There’s times I just lose it with people coming up to sightsee the snowy mountains and we are trying to clear the roads with our tractors - I usually have to pray for forgiveness afterwards for what I’ve just said to these people 😅.
Can't imagine spending the night in that remote place with freezing temp.
Wellnow KC I think now I watch three of your snow rescues and each one of the three you have come to the rescue at least one additional vehicle that is needed to be rescued in addition to the one you were looking for. So far your snow rescues read like a good book and you never know what's going to come next LOL I love it. Matt's off-road recovery what's my favorite to watch. You have reached the Pinnacle of number one, thanks keep them coming. )-[@#=]
U are Amazing in a mini van in all that snow…Stay Safe love all your videos
Last time i was in that area i blew up my engine. Triing to put another rig out of the snow.. had to come to medford to get another rig and trailer to get both home.. was exciting love the snow..
Love your channel, I've learned quite a bit about recovery from it. I normally go out solo with my Dodge pickup and helped out other people as I carry a good amount of recovery ger and have a winch on my truck. I have never had to use it to get myself out of jam, but I have been close a couple of times and lucky. I will continue watching as you explain things so well, also love the way you are so kind and considerate to all you rescue. By the way I am 72 and don't plan on stopping until I can't do it anymore.
Yeah! Go mini van wife! I was born and raised in Jackson County Oregon. I loved seeing your video. Reminds me of the many mountain trips I took through the years in my Subaru Loyale wagon with the simple push button 4×4 on the gearshift😁 Never once got stuck either👍 Now I live in Central Arizona (22 years now) and drive a few different cars but only got stuck in a dry sand bar once on my way out to my off grid desert property I am still working on in Mohave County,Arizona.
Love your channel💯 Maybe I should look into buying a JEEP👍😁✌
31:30 so reminds me of my wife... showed her and she agreed. Love this video
Good recovery. If he would listen to you and turn hard passenger it might’ve come around no problem. And I like the double tree method with the strap.
Great experience 👍and Recovery, with a Awesome 👌
Video
Have a Great Day 👍
Love that comment about the ride or die chick in the minivan!
I really enjoyed this deep winter woods video.
You’re the Man..😎🇺🇸
We used to live at the Rager Ranger station out there. I remember going up roads like that in deep snow in the days before cell phones in a rwd sedan sitting on the trunk lid for extra traction. It wasn't too uncommon to go without electricity for a week or more in the winter.
I wonder if using a drone would help find lost people. If you hovered high enough in the air you might be able to spot some headlights in the distance.
I'm definitely going to try it if the situation arises
This was a very good video and you must be a hunter! That was good tracking ability! That was citizenry right there!!
Compliments to the sheriff that easily maneuvered his way back and around to turn himself around on the trail. We live in Minnesota and that is something everyone that has grown up with rear wheel drive can maneuver. It's not an easy thing LOL once you drive forward and feel like you're not moving anymore you quickly stop then back up and try it again and eventually you pack a trail and can get out. I have packed a trail out to the fish House on the lake in the front wheel drive car going back and forth to pack the trail over and over again without getting stuck. Now I have a truck with 35 inch tires that won't get stuck with a snow plow on the front.
Most people turn around by going forward and multiple back and cut. Instead, pull to one side of the road, cut the wheels all the way and BACK UP. Your wheels cut a much tighter turn backing.
Try this on a two lane road with shoulders. Backing allows you to make a complete 180 in one motion. No more cut and turn, cut and turn.
Thanks!
True story. That it the way that I always do it.
The snow conditions are dictating their driving style, did you miss that?
Great job bud and for free. You are a hero.
I have watched 2 of these now and i love how yours ends in a caravan back out. Rescue and escort.
What a talented person you are. Brilliant
Well, he could've told you about his back! Seems important for the situation.
I really admire your knowledge and sense of angles and lines‼️👍👍👍‼️
great show thanks have fun
No job too big or too small for Casey Ladell.. you are something else...
Top Job..Team Work and careful understanding...Cheers.
Well, I learned a few things on this video about how to get myself un-stuck if the need ever arises. Cool video, thanks for all the drama and information.
Austin powers myself around in!!!! You have no idea how many times I've tied myself up into a ball when trying to repo someone and somehow I always make the impossible happen. I knew exactly which movie scene you were talking about. 👍😉
Really really cool how you guys clean up the environment I'm not one of these environmental nuts but I can't see ruining the land Everybody should have an attitude like you guys have people are not the same as when I was a kid ( am 74 now ) young hart and mind.
thank you from my heart to your heart ❤️

-- This might have been one of your best, and I've seen a bunch. Love the night, snow rescues. Yeah, sitting in a comfy chair with a space heater, but it reminds me of doing ship rescues in the Straits of Mackinac during the winter.
Great experience on your part made for a clean recovery. Good video as well.
When everything works ... That's seems like a lot of fun and satisfying!
Another fine job!
That was one sturdy pine tree, I'm surprised it held (4:45). This is hard to watch as I have lived off the grid in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, all these scenes are just a tad too familiar, but this guy that helps people is truly phenomenal. Nearly every single move he makes is impeccable, but I can appreciate he just doesn't want to cause himself anymore grief.
A person would almost think that he knew what he was doing huh. I know that I have learned things from Casey. The 2 tree strap thing for one. I would like to think that I could have figured it out, but, no guarantees.
I have watched two of your video!! Amazing MAN that you are with a wonderful attitude. Your positive attitude and chuckles made this a great ADVENTURE! Thank you for getting everyone home safe! God Bless you for what you do!! New Jersey here now but originally from outside Syracuse NewYork where I learned to drive in the snow with my dad from a young age!!🙏🙏🙏Laura
It surprises me that people drive off into those conditions so unprepared and how did they think they were going to turn around. Seems that some preparation and forethought would have been a good thing.
Famous last words: "Only one way to find out." Don't ask me how I know. 🙄
Snow is definitely a learned skill. That and a good set of proper tires!
Most of the vehicles he pulls out shouldn’t even be in those conditions. And I’m not just some CZcams viewer, I’ve done that sort of thing for decades now. I’ve seen many things go sideways, and had many late nights getting out of the snow. One thing we take that I don’t see Casey with is a chainsaw or two, it’s not unusual to have a tree across the road. At least in my area. My truck has front and rear PTO winches, front and rear locking differentials, and 41” tires. It also has super low gears. Sometimes a super low gear is the only way you’re moving, depending on snow conditions.
Now this was one heck of a show! You have excellent snow recovery skills. I enjoyed the video.
I have been watching some of your videos recently. You are a hell of a awesome guy. More people should have your attitude.
Another amazing job. Keep up the good work.
Enjoy your content . I made me a mount to bolt my 12K winch right on top of my fifth wheel hitch so I can put it on either trucks fifth wheel hitch. I do a decent amount of snow winch outs. I used to have to take my one car hauler to do winch outs.
Navajo tracker Casey!!! Good job brother
Another great one, thank you!
Hi Casey, this was the best mate well done it must make you feel good . People don’t realise it’s very dangerous out there. A bit like here in Australia without the snow butt very very hot🥴🥴
Thanks Jon 🇦🇺
i really love your videos and i really love what you do 😊😊😊👌👌👌👌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Still waiting for the ice margaritas not as cold without. LOL
Casey it is funny with people who do not want to admit they may have a problem such as I can’t turn my head. It is a bloke thing. Cool driving by the lady.
Wow!! O know you said the one dude had a back injury but still......those 2 guys just cant drive!! The lady in the mini van and the sheriff frikkin killed it though!! Of course another job well done but I figured that one speaks for itself.
Nothing technical about that recovery! Man, what a job!
It’s obvious the Officer has been there, and done that before also…
Those deputies definitely know how to drive in the snow!
Great video of what never to go there in winter weather🤣🤣🤣❤️👏👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
Never diss the super power of a middle-aged woman driving a minivan. Especially if she is worried about spouse/child
People, always keep in mind tires burn for HOURS and give off a lot of heat! So many families have frozen to death needlessly because they didn't know this. Burn the spare first naturally, then you can warm hands while you get the next one off the vehicle. Sacrificing a tire or even all 5 and wheels is a heck of a lot better than dying or losing limbs to frost bite!
please let air out of tires first.
I've burned alot of tires I've never had 1 burn for hours 15 20 minutes even semi tires
Not that I don't believe you, but hours? Seems unlikely, and also fun stuff to inhale while you spend 15 minutes burning rubber.
@@Llama052 before the EPA went crazy we use to put a tire around a stump and pile brush on and light the tire it would Cath the stump and brush after the tire was burned up we'd just keep piling brush to warm up while cutting firewood and hedge posts
They were in a forest. Lots of firewood, even if you had no axe or saw, enough branches can be broken off to keep a fire going for many hours. Your tricks could work for a while if you were in a place with no trees, but only for a while.
Good tracking. Observations and attentiveness are a man's best quality!
Well done. That was great
You did a great job as usual
14:15 "Go ahead, try coming forward about two feet." I'll bet that felt really good.
Your depth perception is spot on. Maybe age is a factor but I know my depth perception at night is not good. I try not to drive in the dark much.
What are they thinking with half bald highway tires???
You are Amazing! What a lot of time and trouble. I certanly hope those stranded folks emptied their wallets into your shirt pocket. You are definately a snow angel.
He doesn’t charge for rescues, he tells them that CZcams views pay for it.
I love deep snow driving, these videos are great. Thanks for posting.
You are amazing! Good job.
I see the tires, and no chains on these guys.. and they are on those roads... really
I thought that, too, at the closeup to the wheel.
Chains are for ice, the reason people get stuck in theses conditions is sinking into the snow too deep for their ground clearance. Chains don’t help with that.
I'm betting those tracks you hv on now are so much better and gives you soooo much more confidence 🤷♂️😁
Never fear. Casey's here.
Do you happen to have more than one Apple device and pairing an external mic via Bluetooth by any chance? Only reason I ask is because my Beats headphones seem to connect to what ever it wants in the cloud. Yesterday I answered my iPhone from my MacBook, through my Beats headphones. And if I’m filming on my iPad and a phone call comes in, forget it! I gotta shut everything down and start all over again.
I certainly appreciate your efforts in the field and on here for us. And it’s never nonsense you spew, always appreciate your commentary.
Thanks for all you do, “So Others May Live!”
Awesome job!
