Don't know why film and docs have to use loud music to direct the viewer to "appropriate" emotion. Sometimes silences louder and conveys a deeper sense of gratitus.

I write music for movies and docs, this music is a distraction (as well as being awful). Oftentimes the director gets someone they know to do the music to save money and the result is this cheap crap.

Hello from Germany. I am truly appalled at the way fascism is reaching out its dirty hands to the oldest modern democracy on earth.
You Americans not only liberated the peoples oppressed by the Nazis, you also freed Germany from the grip of this inhuman pestilence and helped make Germany one of the freest and most respected democratic countries on earth.

As I believe all human beings deserve equal respect and treatment but the willingness of involved to share how easy it was to condemn 11 million souls to death. I grew up in a neighborhood where tattoos were visible when blouses or shirts rode up on arms, and even when children lived there, homes had a palpable grief under the surface and were often unaturally quiet. Others were buoyant with joy and bubbies made homemade applesauce and latkes and we all sang; delighted with the life god gave us. This went to my soul, wanted it for future use and couldn't remember its name. Shalom. Next year in Jerusalem. Pat

Heydrich was definitely a narcissist and possibly a psychopath. I agree with the premise that the Wannsee Conference was a strategy designed to make other agencies acknowledge Heydrich's authority over them. Although theoretically designed to solicit the collaboration of other agencies, Heydrich was making it very clear that he was going to achieve his aims with or without their cooperation. The Wannsee Conference was Heydrich's show of power. Had Heydrich lived a bit longer, he probably would have, in an effort to increase his own power, have started to undermine Himmler.

12:10 If I remember correctly, AH was hit with low levels of poison gas during WW1. Although he was not exposed enough to cause serious injury, he had a period of blindness. Some say genuine, others say hysterical.
Either way, when you combine that personal trauma and the NSDAP notion that Jewish people started WW1 and manufactured the terms of surrender, you get something spiteful. One has to wonder if he saw this grotesque act of mass murder as a justified act of vengeance. “Taste of their own medicine” style thinking from someone who misplaced his rage onto families with children.

  • @SuiGenerisMan

Interesting watch but terrible documentary production. I don't need modern flash and sound effects but this is just bad. The soundtrack is so unpleasant - just use classical music, it's free. The sound mix is just awful, they didn't balance the historical audio in the final mix either, and the voiceover was clearly added AFTER the final audio mix was completed. "Well, we forgot the VO, we did it wrong. Screw it, throw it ontop of the master mix."
Even after fixing the audio, its a tremendously boring choice. We don't need to WATCH actual historians talk on camera. The visual of their interviews is pointless - why not voiceover historical imagery and animations? You show the interviews with the WITNESSES, not the historians. EXTREMELY poor technically. How did these producers get financing for this - they have less talent than film students.

11:42 This guy makes several key mistakes. Judaism is not the oldest culture or religion - although it is quite old.
The conflation of Christianity and anti-Semitism also makes little sense. Many of the NSDAP were occultists and pagans, and plenty of modern racists say things like Christianity destroyed native European society and imported customs such as circumcision.
Christianity is also not a monolith, and Protestants and Catholics had very different reactions to the rise of AH as well as unique histories interacting with Jewish people. The NSDAP even persecuted specific types of Christians - Jehovah’s Witnesses, for example. This guy generally gives the impression of binary thinking and ethnic chauvinism. He makes good points and then undercuts himself with appeals to sentiment.

They all accused each other of being “Jew lovers”, soft on Jewish people, being of partial Jewish heritage, etc. They basically did it at Wannsea amongst themselves - the upper echelons of the Reich’s government. The dudes were literally in a room full of other NSDAP members and calling each other Jewish bolsheviks.
They obviously didn’t believe it - to me it was clearly a cynical power grab only ever countered with an even more cynical appeal to diplomacy. Nevertheless, it shows how neurotic and obsessive they were. No wonder they kept going and going and going. You could literally write the Nuremberg Laws and still be accused of being “soft on Jews” if you weren’t gung ho about mass murder. It’s like some bizarre feedback loop, or an ant mill, where they keep hyping each other up into more and more insane behaviour because the penalty for deviance becomes (seemingly) so high.

With respect, I disagree with Professor Yehuda Bauer. For example, he states that the Jewish civilization is the oldest one. According to some historical researchers, the Sumerians have far more ancient roots, along with the Chinese. Tragically, the great Jewish culture, so rich for their contribution to Humanity, has learned little from their suffering.

@@leelarson107, your analogy between the Holocaust and the IRS is an extremely poor and incredibly offensive analogy. It really should be removed, but better to let it remain as an example of the way people minimize the Holocaust and engage in victimization fantasies.

    • @inkyguy
      @inkyguy Před 2 lety +1

@@NipunaWeerasinghe, there have indeed been acts of genocide, before and since the Second World War, including mass genocide such as the “Killing Fields” of the Khmer Rouge. However, *nothing in either scale or practice has ever come close the Holocaust,* which was a systematized, industrialized system of mass slaughter, a killing assembly line, murdering *11 million civilian men, women and children,* 6 million of whom were killed for being Jewish. Others were slaughtered because they were gay, Jehovah’s Witnesses, trade unionists, communists, socialists, Gypsies, mentally ill, mentally retarded, had a birth defect or were otherwise deemed “undesirable.” It was so mass ive that many didn’t believe it had happened until the films and the relatively few survivors emerged. A small but dedicated number of people deny it ever occurred. Others seek to minimize its scale, significance or global impact.
Worse yet, the Nazi program of human extermination has served as a precedent and even an aspiration for regimes that followed so that acts such as the Rwandan genocide do not have the impact they may had were it not for the numbing effects of systematized mass death on such a scale.
Since 6 million is as a number incomprehensible to the human mind in any concrete way, imagine if you were to wait 1 second for every Jewish man, woman or child murdered in the Holocaust (which is not even long enough to speak a victim’s name) you would be waiting for 2 months, 9 days, 54 minutes and 32 seconds. If you’d bother to grant those killed an entire minute, you’d be wait for 11 years, 5 months, 27 days, 6 hours, and 32 minutes.
To include all 11 million men, women and children, including babies, killed by the Nazi Holocaust you would need to essentially double everything above: over 20 years of human slaughter if a murder were committed every minute.
