This is the smoothest and most professional man I've seen in a long time. I'm so interested in shaving now, it's almost like a science.
+Henry Nguyen Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad that we've piqued your interest in wet shaving.
+Executive Shaving I love your beard, Brian. I'm new here and I've always found shaving an entertaining activity. Although, I have a question. Do you recommend a safety razor by Gilette to shave small grains, or should I use an electric razor?
+Mushu (Avani Penari)
I never, ever recommend an electric razor, they are simply not up to the job. Get yourself an effective yet mild shaving safety razor, the Muhle R89, R106 and R107 are ideal for all beard types and they are fantastic value for money: goo.gl/5qw5Gt
+Henry Nguyen I don't bother shaving, I may go round the edge of the beard though, with a butterfly razor.

1st pass : work
2nd pass : hot date
3rd pass : transcendence into the 5th dimension
5th dimension? More zen-like than 5th dimension. Thanks for watching. Brian.
@@ExecutiveShaving in quantum physics, the 5th dimension is theorized to be like heaven because it's the dimension where thoughts begin to change reality rapidly. like a dream. you could create your most beautiful fantasies with positive loving thought or the most hellish realities with fearful thought. so the 3rd pass would be so baby smooth, it'd be like going to science's version of heaven.
@@DavidLinn Interesting...

I do 30 passes for a perfect shave. It takes me roughly 24 hours from beginning to end which works out perfectly since when I finish my shave, I'm ready to shave again.

ONLY 30? I'm pretty sure 45 passes would be better! 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
One of my vivid memories as a little boy is watching my grandfather shave. My dad used an electric razor, so it was different and fascinating. I still use Grandpa's razor from the 1940s.
Hey, I did, too, Luke! I used Grandpa's razor after he passed on in the '70s. Naturally, I lost it in a move in the '90s. It was nicely engraved and was made in Ireland. Standard Gillette blades fit perfectly, which seems odd, since the razor probably went back to the 1930s. Since I've had a beard since 1973, I figured I could get away with an electric shaver, since I only do my neck and some cheek. Terrible! But I only thought that one was bad. I went through about for of the most expensive ones back then before giving up. His razor solved THAT problem and, now in my 70th year, I'm still using a safety razor on those two spots. Cheers, Luke! -MJ
Wonderful shaving lesson by a professional! I learned so much from this video even 8 years after it was made. So many thanks to this great man.

I believe he's retired now and in a great final act he passed on ownership of the business to his employees.
Oh, yeah....eight years. It's intriguing that things on the internet will never die. People can see this 100 years from now in whatever communicative methods are available by that time.
@@ExecutiveShavingPardon me, why did you use a second blade on 13:20? And don't you think using the soaked water in the sink is not hygienic for the skin?
I assume there's a different blade for that pass. Each blade has an "aggressiveness" level. I'm still new at this but after trying about 12 different blades so far that the Astra Superior Stainless works best for me. He mentioned the Persona and I didn't care much for it.

Im just barely 18 and have only been really shaving for a year. Recently I've been too annoyed with multi-blade cartridges and thought there has to be a better way. So glad I found this. Makes shaving look calming and rewarding, not stressful and disappointing.
Shaving with a safety razor is the way to go 👌take your time and enjoy the results - thanks for watching!
Do you recommend any brands?
Do you still shave this way ?
Not once but TWICE I forgot to pack my shaving stuff when going on vacation. While there, I bought one of those 20 cent Bic razors (hey, it was a LONG time ago). The second time, the multi-blade razors had been invented and I got a triple-blade thing. The single blade worked almost okay in the 1970s, but the triple-blade thing did NOTHING sometime in the early 2000s. Seriously....NOTHING. I wish I wasn't terrified by straight razors, but safety razors are the next best thing. And, jeez....I wish I could be 18 again. Except for the music, anyway.
Truthfully, the best shave is with a Gillette Fusion Power Swivel razor. Wet you face all gels are good, but I prefer a brush boar at that - it gets the lather really into your skin. Then use a balm and man , you f the l good 😊 ?
This is the best tutorial I've seen. I have sensitive skin and it's always been difficult for me to shave. When I was in the military it was torture. After applying what I saw in this video a got a close shave with virtually no irritation.

Best instructions on how to wet shave I've seen since my dad taught it to me many decades ago. It is a skill that seemed to have been lost somewhere with the younger generations, with fathers no longer passing on the knowledge to their children. Good to see the craft and skill of wet-shaving reviving, and being explained in such a competent manner. Thanks for that.
Thanks for your kind words and for watching.
Brian
I second this comment. This is by far the most in depth and comprehensive video I have found on wet shaving, and honestly it may be one of the best tutorials on any subject that I've seen. Clearly explains what to do and what not to do, and then explains why so that it makes perfect sense. I've been doing it wrong for many years; using hot water to moisturize my face before applying the lather. I never would have known otherwise if not for this amazing instructional. It completely changed my outlook on shaving in general. It used to be more of a hassle or chore than anything, and seeing his passion for the wet shaving procedure, really made me see shaving in a completely different light. What used to be something that I dreaded is now something I look forward to.
Yup. Nobody taught me anything I have to teach myself
@@TheMoises1213 There's a lot of things the previous generation haven't taught us yet we're the ones castigated for not knowing about the things we ought to have been taught. 😑
(Incidentally, my gym bag started getting a hole so I have tried sewing it up. It isn't a pretty job and I don't know how to do a proper tying knot but it seems to be holding. It's a small but pleasing victory.)
Do people not wet shave anymore? Or is it all dry shaving with Gen z’rs?
This is THE best beginner’s video, hands-down! I’ve watched others, but nothing compares, Brian’s approach is far more mindful of the most important details for beginners, avoiding skin irritation.
This man is the Master Yoda of wet shaving. I’ve been at it 2 years now, I’m far more skilled now and I keep moving up into more aggressive Razor models, but the skin prep routine he taught me and avoiding Cologne and the like on fresh-shaved skin is the foundation it’s all built on. Thank you Brian, I hope you’re enjoying every moment of your retirement!
Thanks for your kind words James, glad you enjoyed the tutorial!
Yup, I mean it's CALLED aftershave, so I always used it right after shaving. I thought it was meant to burn like that lol. Learned a lot from this.

what do you mean by wet shave? does anyone shave dry? like without water? or like without shaving cream?
@@TheRealManiacz am not a native speaker, so take this answer with a grain of salt. In German, we distinguish between (dry) shaving and wet shaving. Shaving usually refers to using beard trimmers and the like whereas wet shaving("Nassrasur" -> literally wet shave) refers to using soap/cream/foam/... and razor.

That's beautiful. I remember my dad teaching me how to shave. It was great 😁
That's a rather considerable oof
Alas, when my dad was teaching me how to shave, he handed me a disposable razor instead of his safety razor. I think it was because it was allegedly "easier". Over the years (not that many, in all honesty... eight or nine, maybe? I'm still too young...) that I've been shaving, I've switched to cartridge razors, and when my dad's thirty-something-year-old safety razor, bought from the DDR (GDR), broke yesteryear, he moved to disposables again, lamenting that "good safety razors are hard to find nowadays". Now, however, this shall be rectified, as I'm getting him a brand new one, along with a nice brush and cream. And a set for myself. It's high time I learned how to be a proper man, and cut the costs of buying silly, low-quality, replaceable cartridges that aren't even that cheap.

Lol. Good one
I just tried shaving with a safety razor for the first time, following this video. It is such a superior experience, I got a closer shave, and no razor burns. I almost feel cheated, that I was sold cartridge razors before!
Ive been safety razor shaving for just over 11 years now and its a pain in the ass. Just takes time thats all, but i still do it because it gives the smoothest shave and results. The novelty wears off after a couple years.
DoomiePookie then you move to the straight razor lol
Electric razor squad
For me it's all about the customization. Cartridge razors have pissed me off ever since I first started shaving over 13 years ago. I would always try to shave every day, but those cartridge razors would just rip the hell out of my face. For years I always thought I had "sensitive skin", so I'd always buy in to whatever new razor Gillette was shitting out that claimed to be for "sensitive skin". Well, those razors never worked out for me either.
It wasn't until I stepped into safety razors that I realized the truth. I never had sensitive skin, the reason the cartridge razors made my entire face feel like a peeled tomato is because the blades just didn't have enough ass behind them to cut my stubble. Yeah, my day old stubble is apparently as stiff and hard as cactus needles. The blades weren't cutting my hair, they were scraping against my skin. I picked up an adjustable safety razor, and quickly discovered I needed to use it on the highest aggression setting to get a close, smooth, and irritation-free shave. This time, the blade was actually doing what it was supposed to: cutting my damn hair. Meanwhile, I have never seen a single cartridge razor with some kind of customization. All of them are made for "one size fits all", and that's just not how hair works. If Gillette had rolled out blade packs of varying intensities I might be singing a different tune, though.
It doesn't really take very long to do it either. It's about as much of a pain in the ass as shaving with a cartridge. In terms of prep and time to shave, it's pretty much the same. I can do a 3-pass shave in 10 or so minutes, that's including prep time. Most of the time I don't even do 3 passes, a single pass with my most aggressive razor is more than enough for the daily shave. So it's more like 3 or 4 minutes really. I spent years shaving with cartridges, and truth be told I spent even MORE time shaving with those, than I have ever spent with a safety razor. Even a single pass shave with a cartridge would take me upwards of 10 minutes, the reason being I was terrified of burning the hell out of my face when I was done.
Honestly it comes down to preparation. Water temps is vital. Warms water to heat your facial hair, it will allow for a close shave and warm the blade too.. if you shave with cold water prepare for war..
Oh I'm so excited to have found this!! A few years ago your videos helped me learn how to shave my step dad comfortably - he has Parkinsons. Awesome explanation and video
I’m now ordering a safety razor
This man should be the next James Bond
A veteran James Bond maybe! Thanks for your kind words and for watching!
Brian
Anyone else want to shave right after seeing this?
Thanks for watching Frank!
Brian
Thanks to you, great video. I just switched over to a safety razor and love it. This video was very informative.
I jsut went and did it. Me mum got me some nice shaving tools for christmas, so it would be a shame not no. It does take some practice though
I clipped.
I do not remember my dad very well but something I do remember is the sound of him shaving. Thanks for letting me hear that sound again sir. And thanks for teaching me how to produce it on my own.
Thanks for watching, take care ☺
I never watched a shaving vid before but from dad instincts as well as long time of trial and error, I can say I got a pretty similar routine and now its better thanks to you!
Glad to hear that, thanks for watching!
This is manly, i threw out my girly 5 blade fusion after watching this and got myself a DE blade, my testosterone levels went through the roof. and i am watching the movie braveheart. i could of sworn i saw this man in it. lol
Hi, thanks for watching, I'm glad your testosterone levels are what they should be. I'm happy you've ditched the Fusion razor, you'll see such a difference using a DE.
Brian
optimumpcyt yeah I just finished yerkin it to brokeback mountain I'm pretty damn testyed up
Graydon Buchleiter The only thing manlier than having sex is having sex with another man.
Its 3am where am i am and you got me LMAO
How's it manly Shaving?
"You only have one face, look after it." Great Video!
+NewMetroDesign9 Thanks for the kind words!
Why limit yourself to only one face? Keep a whole collection of them!
The speed and efficiency with which this guy glides a razor blade along his jugular is insane. I just started shaving, and I use a safe little cartridge razor and I'm still afraid I'm gonna hurt myself somehow. Excellent video :)
Are you still alive?
Used a safety razor for many many years, but finally succumbed to the fancy quadruple blades they have nowadays. Still pull out the old school razor every now and then for a wander down memory lane. Small things, but makes me happy :-)
Hi Gav, there is no reason why you can't use a safety razor daily, the blades are as cheap as chips and they can be recycled. Additionally, nothing beats a safety razor shave for closeness and comfort.
Thanks for watching.
Brian
When I started shaving this way 15 years ago the hardest thing to unlearn was pressure. I was used to disposables and cartridges where I had to push the blade along to get a shave. Once I got comfortable letting the weight of the handle do the work my morning shaves were much, much smoother.
Same issue here. Having to learn to let the weight of the razor do the work. Getting better at it
The sound of the cutting is so satisfying
Yes, I agree and when I hear that rasping sound, I know I've got the angle right. Thanks for watching. Brian.
*Skriiiitch*
That's an art-of-state shaving. Nice to see someone taking a pleasure of shaving. I usually do it as fast as I can during the morning rush. Thank you for sharing this video and your way of shaving, Sir! 👌👌👌
Thanks 👍
I used to hate shaving before the pandemic (half awake shower shaves), but like so many things, it's different now. I've largely been working from home since 2020 so I'm not rushing about as much in the morning now. I have time to have a proper wet shave, and I now enjoy the experience! It's now become a little luxury in my life, and I have just bought one of your Outlaw Mild (Elegant) razors. I'm also totally sold on the environmental benefits of DE shaving as opposed to disposables. I'm still experimenting with different creams so I'll be shopping at Executive Shaving much more in the future - its good to support smaller suppliers rather than Amazon. Cheers Brian.
Hi Robert, delighted to hear you've found the joy and benefits of DE shaving and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you'd like some recommedations on creams (or anything else!)
You own my respect Sir.
Thanks Dad...
You're welcome son, stay away from booze and wild women...
He'll be back from getting cigarettes any day now.

Lol I’m also here because of that Ad.
Same here. Researching all sorts of shaving options now. I agree. Nothing more manly than a safety razor.
This is the video that got me started on safety razors in 2020. Still love watching it. This should be mandatory watching for everyone! Might bring peace to the world. Seriously, great video!
Thank you for watching, we're very happy that we could help!
Excellent presentation. One of the first videos I watched when first trying to wet shave.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
And for the 15th pass, I'm going to completely remove my face. Lol

Your point?

@@ExecutiveShaving his point is that he would watch your video on his last moments. that's how much he likes it. :) you seem like a great man, Brian.
@@gareth6517 Ah, I understand now, thank you for your kind words.
Brian
I needed this video when I was 17 years old (now 48) as my dad taught me to use disposable razors. Thank you, kind sir, as I plan on using safety razors from here on in.
Glad to be of help, you won't look back after switching to a safety razor. Thanks for watching.
Brian, this time last year, I watched your wee video, I bought the full kit ,taylors and the rest of the kit for my self watched it again and again, picked up courage and did one shave for work, one for the wife , and one for my self, first time all 3 great, shaves , had a few nicks over the year. But mostly doing OK and Kelly loves the taylors smell, thank you a happy shaver,
Thank you for your kind words, delighted to hear you've stuck at it!
This man just oozes class.
Thanks for watching.
Brian
This guy is my Hero, owns his baldness , has more Testosterone in his clean face then most blown dry bearded men with suspenders on. Not only I'm I going to buy this product Im going to start taking up Golf .
Thanks , from California .
I don't know what to say except thanks for watching.
Brian
First time having a clean shaved in years. Thanks for the video, feel more myself again.
Happy to help!
Thank you for this video. I started using a safety razor to shave my elderly father. He fully enjoys the shave.
For many men, safety razor shaving is a cathartic experience, I'm glad your father is enjoying his shaves!
Thanks for watching.
Brian
Why i'm watching this 17 minute video at 5AM? I have a full beard. I don't even shave. And i watched the whole thing. wtf i am doing with my life?
Maybe you'll reconsider your beard...
I, too, have a full beard. It is currently 06:17 CDT Saturday morning, and I've yet to go to sleep. I feel your pain.
xDealermax lol I'm a girl and don't have a beard so yeah, you are doing great! I just couldn't stop watching
yo same and I can't grow a beard cuz I'm a fucking teenager. Still watched this. Loved every second.
+Charlie Rakowsky A man's beard is a part of who he naturally developed to look like minus the grooming. If anything it is shaving it that is hiding a part of who he naturally developed to look like. I'm glad the video and the channel does not contain any of the 'real manliness' stuff to back up what should eventually be an aesthetic choice. great video!
I hear his voice in my head to coach me when I use my safety razor.
Ha! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
The best video about shaving I’ve ever seen. Thank you. It was a pleasure to watch this!!!
Thank you for watching Rico, we're pleased that you enjoyed it! ☺
Thanks for the tutorial. I recently invested in a saftey razor. Those 4/5 blade razors have always treated my skin poorly and I have some thick hair. I was never taught how to properly shave either so that's made a big difference.
Thanks for watching - glad we could help!
This gentleman is so smooth. I could listen to him speak all day!
Oh stop it, I'm blushing! Thanks for watching! Brian.

LOL 😆
I have very thick, coarse, and curly hair. I’ve struggled with ingrown hairs and irritable skin my entire life. Traditional razors and those like the Mach 3 are a huge no-no for my face, so I was stuck with using clippers, which can be fraught and problematic. I recently decided I was ready to try something different, and this was the first instructional video I encountered. Just want to say thank you for removing the mystery and reducing the anxiety of graduating to a safety razor. I found this video to be incredibly informative and effective!
We're very glad to help, thank you for watching!
Thank you. I just got my first safety razor, a Mühle R89 with a Feather blade. Thanks to your video, I was able to use it immediately and get a great, close shave without drawing any blood and very little irritation. I used warm water with regular old Barbasol. The little spots of irritation I did get were entirely because I found myself going over areas without reapplying cream. I definitely need to remember that if I want to hit an area again, I need to reapply cream.
Sounds like you're off to a great start, the Muhle R89 is a fantastic razor and paired with a feather blade you're sure to get a close, smooth shave!
You shave like my Grandpa. The nostalgia almost made me cry- I miss him a lot! Thanks for the lesson!
I hope you see this one day Brian,
You have no idea how much this video has helped me. I got the worst shaving bumps on my neck every time I shaved and I watched this video and adopted this style of shaving; shave brush and a safety razor and lathering up shaving cream and I’ve never received razor bumps or any irritation since following your instructions. I don’t want to sound cheesy but you’ve actually changed my life. No more embarrassing shaving bumps on my neck! Also the extra time it takes to shave is an excuse to get away from everyone for a bit and enjoy some relaxing me time.
Big thank you from Canada!!
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to leave that comment.
We love feedback like this. I'm glad I was able to help you.
Be safe, be well.

Thanks a lot for your detailed tutorial: Today, I fully shaved my face and head with my Mühle R41 safety razor head following your recommendations to the letter - it worked out perfectly 👍🏻 Great job!!
So glad to hear that 🙌
Really helpful, thanks a lot. Today I got my grandfather's safety razor (he passed away 2 years ago). It will remind me of him each time I shave
That's nice to hear, well done!
