    I agree 100% - I’ve learned this firsthand on the last trip I did with you from Virginia to Bermuda to Puerto Rico. It was fun but a lot of work. You are one knowledgeable man.👊🏻

    I do enjoy watching a bunch of the CZcamsrs Chris talks about….for entertainment only! the more I sail, it’s becoming very obvious to me that the guy is right. I am sailing all over the world, as I am lucky to have the financial means to charter boats by myself. I am discovering what makes sense and what doesn’t work for me in various boats, and I must say Chris is (mostly) right on the money in his recommendations.

    Long time no see Chris! The algorithm has not been serving up your videos to me, but it did serve up the “Freshwater Boat?” guy’s video. I have no such 🙄 interest so I did not click.
    Also, in defense of Uma, the very first channel that inspired me to take sailing classes and start my journey; although not everyone, including myself, has the ability or desire to completely overhaul a boat to the degree they did, I appreciate that 1) they painstakingly documented that it could be done, in probably the only way two student fresh out of college could, and 2) there’s something to be said for keeping another boat out of the scrapyard, and their willingness to do it all over again after that boat carried them tens of 1000s of nautical miles over almost 10 years, speaks to their loyalty as they surely have enough TY and sponsor dollars to buy a brand new boat as many other YT’ers have, like the Wynns and Ruby Rose.
    Go easy on them. You may not agree with them, but if they were rehabbing a rusted out heaps of an old classic car, would you be going as hard on them?

    Loved my Morgan Outisland 42 ketch. Was a very capable vessel for me and easily singlehanded.

    I have an old $8 k Pearson 35 I am growing out of, but enjoy working on the boat and spending time fixing her. Lots of time at anchor and you gotta find something to do other than drink more rum.
    Thanks for the video !

    Recently you've stated that you prefer catamarans, but your last cat video is titled "Catamarans suck". Can you make a new video on why you prefer cats and what to look for in buying one. Thanks!

    I have to admit I was watching those videos of YT sailors and I always questioned how they could afford that lifestyle

    Open Question, I’m 59, my wife is 54. We are looking for a used sailboat. If you had 50-75K to spend, what make would you buy. Im too damn old for repairing, need furling sails, sugar scoop, easy to sail. Of the ‘production boats” makers, which would you choose? Thanks

      Full time live aboard ? Coastal cruising ?

      @@ChasingLatitudes Thanks! Longest trip would be from Florida to Bimini, I think 45 miles, then sail around Caribbean a month at a time… so no extended live aboard. I appreciate your channel, I was watching your videos last night, had a CTJ meeting with myself, realized my limitations and desires. Rethinking what I should buy.

      @@ChasingLatitudes If I could get away with under 38 feet that would be great. Probably as big as I feel comfortable sailing, plus as you already know, every foot seems like it costs exponentially more to dock, run, maintain. What should you do if you only have a $30,000 budget. Not looking to sail away yet. Just want to enjoy the local area and have the capacity to stay maybe a week or so on board.

    I don't think you watched it; the 'freshwater' boat video that you're criticizing addresses the things you are criticizing. Do you outright dismiss the premise that a boat, say, an island packet, that has lived its life in freshwater might be a better buy than an equivalently maintained & aged island packet that has lived its life in saltwater?

    • @ChasingLatitudes
      @ChasingLatitudes  Před rokem

      I 100 % do , a boat that has spent its life in saltwater was specifically maintained and upgraded of saltwater over time to handle those conditions, freshwater vessel has not so all of those things the saltwater vessel has already addresses, upgraded and maintained is far batter.

    • @user-nc7hv3gv9z
      @user-nc7hv3gv9z Před 11 měsíci

      @@ChasingLatitudes any practical examples that aren't already mentioned in the video? I mean, it isn't like island packet (or any mfg) makes a fresh water version and a salt water version of the same model boat, right? And I don't think great lakes owners are using galvanized hardware while caribbean owners are using stainless.

  • @aphilippinesadventure9184

    Yes, I dont get Uma and the deal with a Pearson 36. Dedpite getting tons of advice from greybeards, they are going forward with a complete rebuild of a boat that will NEVER be more than a lighrweight coastal cruiser. Not sure what they are trying tp prove except their lack of common sense and unwillingness to listen to good advice.

    • @aphilippinesadventure9184
      @aphilippinesadventure9184 Před rokem

      @@chasz3776 Strong cruising boats are not made the way they are made due to inexperience or a mistaken idea about what it takes to be a strong vessel. They have had good luck with a lightweight vessel so far. I have never used the airbags in my car...does not mean I should not have them or that they are not needed. Safety is an actual thing even when you are not actually using such requirements..
