Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my CZcams channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!
The best thing i love about your videos is that you say it as it is with not sugar coating. Thanks for being real.
Thank you
13 years full time on our 35 ft sailboat. Built in 2005. With solar panels and davits/dink we measure 39ft. No need for anything larger.
Thank you sir! You keep me in reality on my quest for the cruising life style!
I have been on a Chasing Latitudes hiatus. Huge deficit on my part. Your videos speak directly to where I am. Thank you for making these fantastic Videos!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to make great videos. cheers. Ken
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I sincerely appreciate it
Question? I heard shore power was outrageous in some ports. Could to chat about that on another video. Thanks for your efforts.
Just get your solar sorted out.
It's cheap ass chips now.
Cloudy days put 2L in the generator, start it, and go out for a coffee.
The issue is that most systems when connected to shore power will only use the shore power, which is the case on our Boréal 47.2. To use the onboard renewable power source I need to manually switch off the shore power by setting the shore current to zero, and only use the shore power to top off the batteries (800Ah LiFePO4) from time to time at night when the solar don’t produce. Then you benefit from your power generation and minimize the shore drain. For information we do all the cooking with electricity which uses about 1.5-2 kWh per day for full meals 2-3 persons.
Good luck and see you on the water.
I like the idea of having a boat for island hopping for a few days and coming back home. At least as a starter boat.
Buy a boat for the sailing you will definitely do and rent one for things you maybe want to do someday. If you want a boat for cruising the Keys and the Bahamas buy that boat. If you want to sail in Greece someday charter a boat in Greece and sail away. Don't buy a 50 foot ocean crosser that's too big and expensive to do the Keys.
I legit used to hate this channel because of some of the things in a few of the videos but ive come to absolutely revere it over time. He gives what is basically "practical, realistic" advice
Thanks
I really appreciate your videos!! You cut through all the BS! I hope to be sailing in the 2-4 years and will definitely be using your services when ready.
Another good vid. Thanks Chris!
Ty so much for these videos!
Keep up the good work. Love the videos. Keep 'em coming. 🤙
Good stuff! Thanks!
Great info. Thank you 🙏
Great info Chris!
Great video I learn something from each one of them.
At some point you have to talk about the downsides of similar lwl and loa like smashing your bow in with the anchor
I think choosing a yacht that offers shade at the helm and some protection from the elements is critical for long trips.
Great info. Thanks
Excellent advice
Comment to help the CZcams algorithm. This is a good channel.
Love your advice 😊😊😊
however, over forty foot, the marina docking prices skyrocket.
@ABC gang yep,
even more money.
Love your content ❤
Always great advice, always funny!
Love watching your videos.
thank you for taking the4 time to watch, I sincerely appreciate it
Very useful information
Hi chris. Best videos
Great videos 👍
Hi Chris,
Watching alot of your videos, researched for now over a year and analyzed in depth our needs, I nailed down our future Sailboat selection to be either a Beneteau 473 or the Beneteau 48 in a 3 Cabin version.
Which one (and why) would you choose if you could?
Many thanks 🙏🏼 in advance for a short feedback…🙏🏼🏝️
Dominic
👍 Enjoyed it yet again!
I like the jumping blond third from the left
Cool vid!
How do you feel about these newer boats with dinghy garages?
Thank you!
At the least, your consistent. You have preached the same thing since I started watching. Now I watch these to see if something changed your mind.
Great video my friend
Thank you
Get to see you back Chris
Thanks again..
You do provide smiles.
As you get newer you double the initial cost of the boat so that should be considered
The hull is shaped the same as a canoe, what happens when you get into a sea state 3 or even 4?
My guess is the bow will jump up and down like a schoolyard seasaw.....
Hi & thanks
I am a native NYer 😊 I have subbed in. I will be buying a boat soon. Getting a lot of great info from you! For 2 women what type of boat should we start with? I want to go island hopping in the Caribbean for the winters here in NYC. I'm a combat army veteran and want to be relatively self-reliant. I want a catamaran 😅 but think I'm going to start with a monohull.
@@adriennec6033 just start with a cat if that's what you want, no reason to spend the time or money on a mono, leopard 40 is great for island hopping
My fave channel.
I,d love a 38' wharram tiki! You can go anywhere with one of thosell
Wasn't the Pacific Seacraft 40 what Sailing Project Atticus got for their 2nd boat? I haven't watched them in ages, so I don't remember for sure.
Yes.
a darn good choice on their part.
Hi Chris, I just bought your package (e-book and spreadsheet) mentioned in this video and the spreadsheet is missing from the download. Any chance of getting this sorted as all the comms are a noreply email.. thanks mate!
Absolutely just show me a direct email chris@chasing latitudes.com
When you say 40k, you mean the reveneu for 1 year?
Did you make one on what cat size you need?
What is the ideal 2-cabin sailboat size for coastal cruising for 2 people who don’t want to have to visit a marina more than once a week at the most and want to have onboard all amenities ie A/C, heating, hot water, water-maker, extra fridge, solar, autopilot, wind-vane, SUP, diving gear for 2, dive compressor, generator, foldable bike, satellite internet, EPIRB, Iridium Go, spare anker, spinnaker, gennaker, code 0, lazy bag, spinnaker pole, covers for navigation instruments, rudders, winches etc?
I would assume anything smaller than Beneteau 45 will be too small.
You'd want a 50 for all that crap
@@ChasingLatitudes Are u sometimes in BVI? If yes, how much and how long would it take to deliver a sailboat like a Beneteau 45 from there to Liguria?
@@MrMediterrano that would be 6 to 8 weeks amd cost close to 30k
@@ChasingLatitudes including everything? Your flights, fuel, water, food, marina costs etc?
@@MrMediterrano no that's just your basic capt cost for a trip that long
Hello!
Great
Hello
Hi ❤
Great advice. Glad to see you are out of CZcams hell.
38 foot minimum if its just you and your girl going offshore.
Bigger also helps with safety
Having that bow straight down makes the LWL appear better in your calculation. It doesn’t provide any additional living space over a bow that cuts back. 🤔
yeah it does. provides storage space (eg chain locker) that doesn't encroach on living space
Thanks for info 👍🏻😊
Thank you for watchinb
Hey don't we know someone with this absolute stunning sailboats. Seacraft40😁 OOHH YA that small you are talking about, I get some things all mixed up😂 these days getting old. A Benetaeu 40 now I am drulling all over myself, you just like to tease some of us 😛
Hello. :)
Chris - are you going to the St. Pete's boat show?
Not likely
@@ChasingLatitudes bummer -

Yuuuuge size 😂
Moet een waterbed en een ligbad hebben.😂
😃👍👏👏👏
Can you repeat the part about the LOA vs LWL for another six and a half minutes please? I didn't quite catch that "little breakdown".
Incredibly incredibly incredibly incredibly… maybe would be helpful to find another word to use , lmao 😅
Meh, too loud too crass.
RELAX!!!!!......DUDE!!
Cool.
