The whole idea for the hinge to be so tight is for the touchscreen not to wooble when you interact with it.

No 4k editing? WTH. I have a xps 13 with an i5 6th gen and I use premiere with no problems at all. Yes, exporting is somewhat slow, but editing worked flawlessly. I'm actually thinking on buying a new gen xps just to shorten the export times, but that's it.

You CAN charge the XPS 13 via the USC-C port, but no charger is included in the box. Dell sells an additional 45W charger, most phone USB-C chargers aren't strong enough.

Thinking of upgrading my old MacBook Air to a PC. I want to do SOME video editing in Premiere Pro but mainly use my laptop for photo editing in Lightroom and Photoshop. I think this model is maybe a year old - is it still worth getting? I think I can still get it in the UK under £1,000 which is much cheaper than any MacBook. Would you recommend this as my next laptop?

I bought a dell XPS. Every time I tried to click on something the cursor would jump away from it, then it would either not click or it would double click. On top of that my speakers would randomly begin crackling heavily and totally distort the audio and if that wasn't enough, the batter stopped charging and I had to keep it plugged in permanently to use.

      Hello everybody,
it's my first post in here (sorry for the long post but this got to be resolved).
I am also suffering from unstable Touchpad performance ("jumpy" scrolling, "sketchy" page navigation that jumps unexpectedly).
I've been following this issue for a year and so (since I bought my XPS 13 9350). After trying all the popular workarounds, still no stable solution is found.
It's quite disappointing to find such a major "bug" in a high-end ultra books
which considered to be one of the leading in it's category for several years.
This experience happens to many times while working on different applications. sometimes several times per scroll.
It's even more surprising to see how long this issue is been reported with no suitable fix by Dell - a company who is well known for their reliable products and great service.
I've decided to share my experience in all of those forums I've been following in order to find a solution or even an explanation for what's causing this problem (is it a software\ hardware or manufacturing problem).
If you are experiencing a similar thing please share by reply.
All in hope that Dell will address this issue (either by drivers / firmware update or by replacing the Touchpad component in case of malfunction).

The reason you need to use your two hands to open the laptop is Dell made the hinge stiff so when you use the touch screen, the screen does not wobble like on other laptop touch screens. It the price you have to pay but is worth it. It great to use without the screen moving back and forth every time you press on the screen. Other reviewers have mentioned this.

    1. Those weird elongated finger gestures
    2. nothing wrong with dell having it's own charger. if it was another usb-c port then it would be mainly used for charging while the other usb-c port is used for transferring data and steaming videos, which is currently the same case with one usb-c and barrel charging port.

I have an XPS13. Overall very happy because it's powerful, portable, long lasting and well-built. The track pad sucks though. The click sensation feels really cheap. And there is no haptic separation to the right click button. So accidental right clicks happen fairly often.

Sort of a mixed review. First, it's one of your favorite ultrabooks, but in nearly every category you say "It's just OK" or "set your expectations", which is sort of a mood deflator. Also didn't XPS start off as their gaming rigs before they bought Alienware? (I know XPS is something else now ...)
I do like this laptop though.

I have the 2017 version and yes, it is actually a pain to open this laptop. Forget that you have to use 2 hands, it doesn’t have anywhere to actually lift it and getting between the screen and the keyboard isn’t as simple as it should be. That aside, it is a fantastic laptop! Just wish the keyboard was like the one on hp computers. Those are perfect!

Takes the piss to clean. That carbon surface stuff is a mad fingerprint magnet. Great PC, I have an i7 and it is fantastic.

those problems are called defects, and you can send it back for a brand new laptop. Also isnt dell supposed to have good support??

+Salty Mac The XPS product line suffers from so many defects that it's definitely a problem. 29% of Amazon buyers rate it 1/5 because of issues (some with multiple units), that's a huge problem.
No, Dell doesn't have good support. Of course they will fix your unit but that will take 2-6 weeks.

      dell has horrible technical support.

Thomas Vanheldon, before Dell even agrees to fix your laptop, you have to deal with their shitty "tech" support on the phone who dont know anything about anything. I was dealing with a bunch of fuckin idiots. Dell fixed my laptop, but they ended up introducing some nasty scratches on it. So disappointed. I just hope that they fixed my mobo issue for good. Should not have to do deal with this to begin with.

The Sennheiser headphones do NOT have "exeptional" sound, tho. The feel OK to wear, and the controls on the headphones are weird. They're an OK pair of headphones.

I was really worried about getting the XPS 13 because looking online at videos etc the build doesn't look amazing. For example whilst the screen looks amazing in videos the carbon fibre and aluminium looks plasticy and cheap. Oh was I wrong!!! When I received this today it is solid, metal is cold to the touch and the carbon fibre looks premium. Goes to show that seeing it in real life and being able to hold it is completely different. Great laptop

i have the 2016 version and it is a marvel it is able to balance my college and gaming life
i was surprised how well it handled gta 5 and i have an intel i5 with 8 gb ram
so if u want a laptop for college and some light gaming i would really suggest this
but i would suggest to get a 512 gb model if u want to play games cause 256gb may just not be enough for some people

I hoped laptops would have given an option without ANY operating system so you can just install your own. Would definitely cut money off the price
