    Actually, toxic fan culture is much worse than this. As a South Indian, during my school days, my class was split in two groups: Vijay fans and Ajith fans(there were some students, who didn't side with either of the celeb including me, the two groups ignored us since we didn't spew hate on either of the actors). There were fights everyday on which actor was better compared to the other. The two groups would try to find the faults in the films and tease about it to the other group. And this toxicity was even in my college, with more intense fights and quarrels. My classmates bunked classes to watch the first shows of the actors and pride themselves as the biggest fans. Rajinikanth fans were obsessed to the point that you could frequently hear news of some fan dying while worshiping(pouring milk and doing puja) Rajinikanth's very large cutout, some fans go to temple barefoot, climbing many thousands of stairs, so that his movie becomes a hit.

      As a K-pop fan myself, I can vouch for the fact that parasocial relationships are a big thing in k-pop fandoms as well.
      I focus on the music and memes now mostly but I have to admit, I also went through that phase. Not necessarily a romantic parasocial relationship but a deep admiration. I am also not saying it's bad to like someone in the media but when it's taking up a lot of your time and distracting you from your work, it's an issue.

    I’m raised by movies and fictional stories. Didn’t have much communication with my family growing up but felt connected with all the movies I watched and games I played. Yet I haven’t seen myself getting obsessed with a celebrity. I have studied in a filmmaking institute and did internship at a radio station. Both the places had celebrities visit for promotional purposes. Out of all celebrities, I interacted with only one who’s a choreographer (Melvin), and that too because I was feeling lost about my potential and career. I have always seen people feeling so overwhelmed by the presence of a celebrity (or bunch of celebrities) they need (NEED) to get a sense of interaction with them, by either getting a picture or (crossing boundaries by) touching them through handshakes or that Akshay Kumar wala muh ghuma dena selfie ke liye is amusingly shocking. When I saw what a crazy fandom exists for all kinds of celebrities in our country, I could only sense a fear. Fear of where the art exists. Are representatives of a particular art form or even artists themselves are above any normal individual who’s not associated with the art? I think we all are doing our own jobs and minding our own business but just a difference of social network. One who feels that they’re enough, even if they’re dealing with symptoms of low self esteem and anxiety disorder, at least have a chance of not end up worshipping some human they don’t even know personally. I hope and I wish this worship culture will fade away soon. Not just in India but all over the world. People need to have faith in their art, and not obsess over their lives.

    as a K-pop fan myself, this is so true on so many levels. The fact that the problem doesn't stop at Bollywood but extends to Hollywood, K-pop, and pop culture as well. it's crazy to see/ encounter someone who is overly obsessed with their celebrities, willing to do anything and literally ANYTHING.
    In some industries, such things can actually backfire on the celebrities themselves like in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean industries.

    Since I was a small kid I used to see people calling themselves " FAN " and doing certain things . But I couldnt relate to them . I mean yes i might like an actors acting/personality but I cant be his fan and worship him . As most of the people have totally different personalities when on camera and when off camera . Some actors are seen as gods and have a very positive image on camera with millins of fans BUT THEY ALSO ADVERTISE AND SELL GUTKA AND PAN MASALA for money . And craziest thing is that people still worship them . This really made me think hard about general people mentality , Some people just have low critical thinking . My sister is one of them , She always worships some public figure . And I often tell her that its okay to like someones work but worshipping them is not okay . After many debates and arguments she finally accepts and guess what after 5-6 months she again starts worshipping some other public figures . This led me to believe that some people are biologically vulnerable to these things . Its not that they chose to be like this but its what their brain tells them to .
    .
    And in India this idol worshipping is on some next level . This video is a living proof of it . This video has 1.2 Million views with just 60k Likes and 2K DISLIKES .
    I mean at the end of the day its survival of the fittest , If some people have vulnerable brain you can either ignore them or exploits them .

      please help at your level :
      1.DIRTNESS POLLUTION:
      How to improve Indian citizens' Common Sense of Responsibility AND OWNERSHIP ,and bring out a mass movement owned by citizens, towards clealiness and hygiene; on road, in public infra- buses and trains, on not eating gtuakas and spitting everywhere and anywhere, open defecation/ urination on walls in public spaces and in gallis. Decimal state of hygience followed by street food vendors- no use of hand gloves, mask and hair mask, clean water and clean ingredients in food preparation. I have seen people throwing there garbage in polythenes on roads from their flats in Delhi. In markets shop owners treating roads as dumpyards. How can we improve cleanliness and hygience practices in every walk of life in india, like japnese ?
      2. NOISE POLLUTION:
      Too much on noise pollution in india pee- poo on roads and gallis giving migraine , situation is terrible in every nook and corners OF THE COUNTRY. How to improve this and bring noise pollution down like in european countries.citizen centric movement not to blow horns unnecessarily. spread the word. thanks!

  • @sunandmoon976

    I am saying this from experience, the most important part of being a fan is getting self-satisfaction. The fact that my favorite celebrity is getting success and popularity or doing something good gives me a satisfaction that I have made the right choice by supporting that celebrity, which I may not get from anything else in my life. That's why when that celebrity does something terrible or says mean things, my first attempt will be to defend him/her and ignore that flaw as much as I can, so that I don't get hurt. If that doesn't work, then I would get disappointed and try to ignore that celebrity completely. So in a way, fans also use the celebrity to get self-satisfaction or self-validation, which is why there is immense pressure on that celebrity to maintain their public image.

    • @Kai-ps6lh
      @Kai-ps6lh Před 4 měsíci +8

      But isnt that illogical ?? Seeing your celebrity become sucessful gives you satisfaction BUT what does it actually give you ? Shouldnt you be more concerned about your own sucess ? shouldnt your sucess give you satisfaction rather than someone else's . Specailly when that person doesnt even know that you exist ??
