Jawan was produced by Red Chillies which is owned by SRK. The whole 60 percent profit plus 100 crore fee is just him reinvesting the money back into his production company. And given that Atlee is the director while SRK being the lead, it was guarantied that this film will make massive bank. SRK is actually a very smart guy; he knows the economics of the industry in-and-out and know which projects to place bets on. Also, a big chunk of his money actually goes into VFX division of Red Chillies which India's top VFX STUDIO.

wrt to writers, Korean industry seem to be doing something right. They give due credit to the writers, many dramas would have hype around who the writer is compared to actors. Since Kdrama caters to an international audience rather than relying on star power, many times writers will also be part of casting. You can also see interviews where writers like kim yun sook would share why they took a particular actor for their story.

One solution to this problem could be to make movies with new actors who are formally trained in acting, such as FTII graduates. This way, a lot of new fresh talent would get an opportunity to get introduced and the producers can spend more money on hiring experienced directors and behind the scene artists as well as visual and other special effects.

Also, the another reason is lack of movies, adapted from Indian literature. If you look in Hollywood, you will find many movies which were adapted from literature. Forrest Gump was also an adaptation from a novel of the same name. I have read some of the stories of writers like Bhagwati Charan Verma, Munshi Premchanda, Mridula Garga and Vijay Tendulkar. And I will tell you most of the Indian writers of 20th century were very much ahead of their time and you will also enjoy their stories. Most of these writers had come to the film industry but they ended up being disappointed with the system. But some writers like Vijay Tendulkar had written screenplays of some of finest films like Manthan, Ardhasatya, Nishant. I also recommend you to read his plays. If you don't have time to read the indian literature, atleast hear the radio play adaptations of them, produced by Aakashvani.

I don't think it can be a big reason. Our bengali film industry, which we call as Tollywood, is currently at the worst phase that we don't even know what films have released in last 5 years. But what we've seen, atleast >50% of our films are direct adaptations, with genres ranging from romance, horror, detective, social setup/periodic.
What I believe, why Bollywood is failing (even our industry) and the Southern industries are thriving, us because they have larger level of conviction and think out of the box. You can have millions of stories written for you, but if you lack the ability to setup it in large frame in grandeur, it's waste of money.

    • @geisha-12

and who says Bollywood never focused on script and acting? Take out the lists of the top 200 films made in India, most of them are in Hindi or Bengali language, this sudden negative campaign against Bollywood is only running down South. Not a fan of SRK but the man showed how at 58 he is far better than most of the Southern superstars being hero-worshipped amongst their audience, two films already crossed the 1000cr + marks one more biggie left. Main problem with Bollywood is:
Bollywood movies are mostly low in IQ and actors stardom centric rather than content centric (Irrespective of few directors)
If they continue to do so then we will witness the fall of Bollywood
Sometimes I just think what the hell they are doing...
The reach that Bollywood has in India also around the world if they had focused more on content than actors stardom also inefficient star kids by bringing/exploring new faces around India
Today instead of struggling, Bollywood could compete Hollywood
Indian Film Makers should set standard, evolve and make movies like Marvel Studios, John Wick, Avatar, Jurassic Park, Matrix, Terminator etc. instead of Bheekh manga, Gharelu Bibaad, Emotional Fool movies, Illogical Love stories etc.

How do you expect a writer to give his 100% when you pay them 8 to 30 lac for the movie being made on the budget of 50 to 100 crore.. There are thousands of writers in the industry getting scammed.. there was a writer who only got paid 10000 for his movie in exchange of credits.. Do not pressure artists for such a useless norm of every friday release is a must. Unnecessary time limitations will not give better art so just forget about Masterpieces. There is absolutely never-ending material already present in the world of Cinema that is sufficient for any individual for a lifetime, so it is my sincere request to all the movie studios, filmmakers that take your time and give it to the writers to create something meaningful, put your money in surveys and do the needful accordingly. Look mate I believe bollywood needs ti learn from different industries (also the its old self) but this was one of those movies that was innovative and different from other bollywood movies, and you will find many ‘acclaimed movies’ that are infact inspired by other movies but take a very different turn from the original movie and only have a fraction of it similar.

@@vedantsuryavanshi9656 rrr was a shitshow i have no clue why anyone with critical thinking would love that movie.
it was so boring the entire time, there was no proper story line, its like he mixed 3-4 stories which can be their own movies, there is a start to each story, there is the establishment of characters but that's it, there is no proper role like ajay devgan in the movie, they brought him onto the screen, gave little backdrop and gone, again something else only starts off.
but ofc, indian audience loves seeing their stars on screen even if it makes 0 frickin sense or if it adds nothing to the film lol.
but i am being honest, rrr had fantastic cinematography and hatts of to the camera crew and director, the shots were beautiful, songs were good but rest was a shit show.

I don't think lack of material is an issue. even producers will easily find these literature pieces and plays etc. but they will never adapt it due to lack of majority interest or risk of losing money after paying the actors in crores. it may sound bad but the primary source of money is common people and common people in india are not mature enough or simply not interested in seeing those movies. Also in the west they have relatively homogenized language and culture(except the immigrants but even they adapt) so you can easily adapt because lot of people are interested already. I feel even if tomorrow someone makes a great adaptation with big stars it will fail cuz common people don't want to waste their hard earned money to see no action no item song , no hot scenes. atleast thats how i feel.

I slightly disagree with last point.
Yes, it might be true that most of people want to watch 'larger than life' type of movies.
But, the market for good movies 🎬 is also there, although it may be relatively smaller than those movie, but still it has significant size.
Just look how much popular 'Gangs of Wasseypur' is, or how many people watch Anime or Korean movies.
    Its huge.
So I think you can still make money by making good quality movies.
