      Something very similar happened when mobile phones were introduced. Mobile phones were very expensive in the early 2000s. Reliance came up with their CDMA phones. It was much cheaper. SMS were free and voice calls were also cheap. This forces the other operators also to reduce their rates and it was only because of Reliance, mobile phones started spreading in India at an amazing rate

    The Ambani family's dominance in India can be attributed to several factors. First, they have pursued aggressive expansion strategies and made strategic acquisitions to consolidate their position in key sectors. Second, their focus on innovation and technology, particularly in the telecommunications industry through Reliance Jio, has disrupted the market and attracted a massive consumer base. Lastly, their strong business networks and political connections have further bolstered their influence and ability to shape policies and regulations to their advantage.

    One company controlling a country as large and diverse as India is very dangerous... People might not realize this now but by the time they realize it would be too late... There should always be fair competition. Before we had so much of competition in terms of telecom companies but now there are only two major companies. So in the longer run these two companies would dominate and charge fees as they want...

  • @banksy2870
    @banksy2870 Před rokem +65

    Any economy having a major dependence on one company is a big issue and for the following reasons -
    1) Most Indian companies are still a family-owned business, if something goes wrong with this company then it can have a large-scale, drastic effect on the country. Moreover, it gives many people who are part or linked with this family lot of immunity esp. in a country like India where such powerful people can bend laws and buy their way into anything. Even if today's generation of business leaders are wise and competent people we cannot say how the next generation will turn out and influence the whole country.
    2) Such big players stifle competition and do not let smaller businesses thrive. For any big economy to grow you need lots of different business players and a fair and open playing field - which businesses like Ambani do not allow. For them, it is all about earning as much money as possible and dominating everything they put their hand to. It reduces variety.
    3) When businesses grow so big and dominate the entire economy even the society becomes segregated into the upper-rich class and the lower classes and those divisions solidify with time - this only leads to further strife in the country.

    Great video! Thanks for bringing up the comparison with South Korea. While Reliance and other large conglomerates provide massive boosts to the Indian economy that shouldn't be underestimated, we should be cautious that the economy and mass media doesn't end up using them as crutches. Let Korea be a resounding warning of a commercially successful country where private entities become strong enough to eternally gain the ability to arm-twist governments and national policy.

    • @A.K.00
      @A.K.00 Před rokem +6

      Not just Korea… America is biggest example of how life in a perfectly developed country can become difficult due to corporations power. From healthcare and higher education that even regular citizens cannot afford..to weak employee benefits and protections…to regular gun violence…there is always hand of relevant corporations behind the scenes influencing the politicians and thereby, influencing the laws of the country to their personal benefit and wealth amassment .
      While no politicians are angels, The right-wing political party there is totally dedicated to preserving powers & influence of rich white people and billionaires, at the expense of regular citizens life. This is easy to achieve because of years of brainwashing their voters to be pro-corporations and anti-govt and keeping them busy in culture wars .
      Anyways, thankfully EU and rest of developed world are much better in this regard, since they are social-democracies, not corporate owned democracy.

But, the real problem might begin after he hands over the business along with all these influence and power, to his successor . Because the successor might have different ambitions or desires and will be able to use the huge influence, which may or may not, go against India.

It is not possible for a small and medium company to work in these sectors. In today's world, if a country cannot control these resources, it will be doomed. Hence, such big companies are necessary evil. You cannot live with them but you cannot live without them.
