  • EVEN if you have been living under a rock - you would know about the grand Anant Ambani pre-Wedding celebrations where Anant and soon to be wife Radhika Merchant hosted an (estimated) 1000 crore pre-wedding bash in Jamnagar.... but they can afford to spend this much and 100 times more .... question is what lessons can an average Indian draw from this and what does an average Indian have to do for a wedding???

During my wedding my father was scared of society and kept repeating ki "Rishtedaar kya kahenge?" My simple reply was "Why are Rishtedaar even asking this question? If they are family, they will understand. If they are not family then it should hardly matter." This gave my father some strength and my wedding was done in mere 3 lakhs in 2018 in New Delhi. Food was one of our priority though, to be adequate, delicious, hygienic and vegetarian. At that time, minimum amount required for a average wedding was 10 lakhs.

This amazing pre wedding event proved #Ambanis are Billionaires by Heart too ♥️ despite #Asia's richest family, #Ambanis are grown up by rich culture, traditions & values 👏 top of it they follow Santana Dharma's path 🚩 they put country on global map and provided employment to millions but they are more grounded than their employees, rare thing in corporate world 👏 #Ambanis always come for help when country needs, either during COVID wave, Reliance providing liquid oxygen in whole world, they stopped production in used oxygen for people of country and that without a single rupee charge 🙏 they built many hospitals, schools, skill centres, etc. and providing free services for betterment of common people so they are doing more for country than many political parties 🤐 country is blessed to have such a Big Heart Billionaire family, respect 🙏
most people don't know who is #AnantAmbani because he isn't in business, his elder brother is in business and handling #Jio so people saw Aakash speeches and interviews but this man is come with a big surprise, he is unbelievable orator 💥 nobody thought that Anant is such a down to earth person and superb speaker 👍 his love for animals is pure, unconditional and amazing, this quality makes #anantambani a pure Gem of person ♥️ and his language commands in Hindi, English and Gujarati is best in ambani family 👍why Ambani family hide this gem of person from social media till now, he is doing great work for animals till 2008, #Vantara is a superb noble cause but we don't know about it, how? if any celebrity doing these type of noble causes, he should get attention because he or his family or his friend or relative promoted in media or social media but #Ambani refrained from this and this makes #Ambani family different from others 👏that they are doing so nuch social work, running many NGOs for girl education, women empowerment, tribal empowerment, underprivileged people and for poor people under Reliance foundation by Nita Ambani and Anant also doing great work for animals too and created biggest private animal sevalay called #Vantara in Jamnagar from 2008 but they never highlighted or promoted on media or social media despite they are billionaires and Asia's richest family but they are never doing paid promotion, when celebrities & media all over world came to Jamnagar, Gujarat for his pre wedding then people knew that this type of great work doing by #Anant and Ambani family, this is worth to be applauded 👏👏👏 this Great work proved #Ambani is billionaires by heart too ♥️

Amazing episode! Hats off! A low-cost wedding is exactly what we did.
4 years ago, me and my husband love-married intercaste in court (with parent's blessings). No pre-wedding ceremony other than an at-home mehendi gathering and went to honeymoon within India. Threw a reception later, but it was nowhere near a grand wedding. Saved money on firecrackers, ghodi, DJ, prewedding shoot, Mehendi ceremony, Haldi ceremony and overseas honeymoon, to say the least. We chose to do that because for us only being together was enough, not how costly the celebration party is.
Occasionally and especially while attending other grand weddings, I do wonder what it would be like to have a grand wedding but definitely no regrets. Our networth is very thankful for our decision.

Much needed topic of discussion. I fought with my parents and in-laws for almost a year. Still, I failed. Both families spent a lot on marriage (~20L) instead of my push to invest in a house/flat as I do not work in my hometown. Its 5 years now, and I am still on rent and couldn't save for a down payment. Now, it's much harder and more expensive because of the unrealistic property inflation in the Tricity. The same property that was available in 40L is going for 1cr nowadays. People realize this much later, and my family, including my wife, also realize this now.

A Bulgarian friend of mine was invited by her friend to a Wedding in The Punjab. Her friend gave the brides parents her professional title Dr. I flipped and was solely responsible for her turning the invite down. I told my friend going to a Wedding in Punjab is free PR to all the Agents who are people traffickers and smugglers.

Additionally, being an extreme introvert, all that dramebazi was a big discomfort for me.
I had to give in to the pressure as my primary goal was to marry this smart, lively girl who according to society had a "defect" in her body. Her father was happy to see his daughter being married at all.

It emphasizes the freedom and equality of the bride and groom.

My mom said people(relatives and invitees) want to have that "shadi ka khana", click pretty pictures and enjoy. To which i said why to stretch it to 4-5 days then? Have a simple court marriage or a phera wala marriage and throw one day party to the people you want to invite. Take pictures dil kholke. It will be cost effective (depending upon how much one wants to spend of course) also will not require much of expenditure from the guests side on their dresses and orher stuff, also will not take up so many days. This party can be thrown after a few days as well.

You are not just a patriot for your country, but also for humanity.
In Pakistan, just like in India, people tend to compete with each other during wedding ceremonies but often forget about the importance of mutual understanding between the couple. If a marriage ends in divorce after just a couple of years, then what is the point of spending so much money on the wedding in the first place? The cost of a wedding is an expense that can have a negative return rather than a positive one.
On a personal note, I am proud of the fact that my wedding took place during the COVID pandemic and the total expense was only 20,000 PKR. I also did not ask for any dowry from my in-laws.

In Islam, the wedding system is characterized by simplicity. According to a Hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged simplicity in marriages, making them easy and straightforward. The underlying wisdom is to create a barrier against ‘Zina’ (adultery/sexual misconduct). When the process of Nikah (marriage) becomes overly expensive, it inadvertently makes ‘Zina’ more accessible. Unfortunately, this phenomenon is increasingly observed in contemporary India.

I understand the point that one should not spend as much that you get in debt and losses but one thing about Ambani weddings are..which I have always noticed - comes which some subtle goals. They always showcase the culture and handicrafts of the country to the world and what better way to publicise than this.
Through these functions we get the who's who of the world on our land and it also helps for country to come out of only a "slumdog" perception.
Charity can't always be in form of currency..there are other ways too.
Also, when they choose places in India like Jamnagar, Udaipur etc, it helps boost economy of the local place in various ways.
Ofcourse, to have all this the function has to be in a large scale because that is the only way to get all media attention.
And one thing for sure, they are business family, that too Gujaratis! They won't spend a penny without extracting value out of it.For them the functions also help in creating strong network and friends in important places worldwide 🙂

Brilliant !!!!a discussion that certainly needs to happen ....
1)The main emphasis should be on "celebration" because you are happy when such an occasion is there rather than pleasing people who will join you in your celebration but won't help when you will face finanacial burden afterwards ...

An indian economist once said that as long as the marriage and festival celebrations continue, there can be no recession in India. The 75 billion dollar marriage industry gives a huge push to the economy. As long as the rich people organize grand marriage ceremonies within India, it's great news for Indian economy.

True . Problem marriage & festivals me spend karna nahi he balki but amount jitne kharch kar rahe ho use dekhke apne hisab se karna chahiye.
Same goes for vehicle buying too.

Absolutely, your points resonate deeply with us. It's crucial to recognize the multifaceted impact of such grand celebrations. Indeed, the expenditure incurred during events like these extends far beyond the duration of the festivities themselves. The economic ripple effect is profound, providing sustained employment opportunities for a myriad of individuals and businesses, from renowned designers to local vendors.
Furthermore, it's important to highlight the broader macroeconomic implications. Increased spending not only stimulates economic activity within the wedding industry but also generates positive spillover effects across various sectors. As expenditure flows through the economy, it creates a multiplier effect, bolstering overall economic growth and vitality.
In essence, the extravagant display of wealth at these weddings serves as more than just a spectacle; it's a catalyst for economic prosperity and community development, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of opportunity and growth.

Spot on! Very very relevant. Thank you for making such informative / eye opening content & truly ‘educating’ people @thedeshbhakt
Lot of us Indians get inspired by, and create hype around the wrong kind of people - celebs, industrialists & politicians!
Spending such exorbitant amounts on a wedding, in a country where most struggle to make ends meet (despite being educated - imagine the poor) is plain - CRIMINAL & must be looked down upon!
If done in a private capacity, mustn’t create such hullabaloo (ofc sold-out media wouldn’t understand this, since they’d literally eat elephant food & shit even - if paid rightly!) we Indians need to stop giving our precious time & attention to such brazen pompous folks, who have for nothing to do with us & our lives!

Thanks for making content on such important things, which are usually neglected by most of the news portals( though most of them are busy with election news only) and other knowledgeable persons in this field. Wedding become a luxurious event nowadays, people are spending 20-30 lakhs of rs like nothing, from destination wedding to top class 5 star hotels for the staying of the guests, and over priced gimmick thing like pre wedding shoot, which is nothing but some quick money earning method for the wedding photographers!!
