    Hi, Great video, I really like it. One question about listener and network connections: lets assume that listener is running on default port 1521 and application tries to connect using source port 11000 (for example). TCP connection for db connection request is: 11000 (source) 1521 (dst). Now, when db connection is established, and listener doesn't take part in communication between application and server process - this is still the same TCP connection (on the same ports)? If i understand well - there is no new TCP connection established here?

    Can you tell me what is the use of another local listener though we have one default listener which handles the connection request?

    • @RamkumarSwaminathan
      @RamkumarSwaminathan  Před 5 lety

      Local listener is that one that is used locally... it may be configured as the default listener or any other listener.

  • @chanakyapati7057

    suppose a connection is already established, after that the listener stopped will that connection still works?

    • @RamkumarSwaminathan
      @RamkumarSwaminathan  Před 6 lety

      Yes, a connection once established continues to exist irrespective of the status of the listener

    Authentication is done by listener or server process?what about password file authentication, who does this in case of sysdba connection and database instance is not started?The server process for a client connection request gets started before it's authentication or after aunthentication.? Please clear it

    • @dalipkhurana7348
      @dalipkhurana7348 Před 3 lety

      Servers process is responsible to authenticate user, listener has no role in it, it is just like an auto driver he dropped u to your destination but don care if the work for which you went there was successful or not. Now Suppose user authentication failed(due to bad pwd or anything) user ll be prompted abt this and connection will be dropped and resources occupied by server process 'll be freed.

    Hi Sir, I have a question: Let's assume we connected DB instance by listener and after that we say that listener is out of the way. But what wil happen if our listener "goes down"? Would we be able to do our processes ? Thanks beforehand.

    • @dalipkhurana7348
      @dalipkhurana7348 Před 3 lety +2

      Once we r connected to the database, our connection to the database is created successfully. Listener goes up , it goes down we don care, coz our connection will not be impacted just no new users will be able to connect to instance till listener is brought up again.

    who will spawn server process for application connection request ? Is it Listener or PMON process, as I somewhere study that listener with help of PMON will authenticate the request and create server process, means there is PMON after listener in hierarchy ...Please confirm.

    • @RamkumarSwaminathan
      @RamkumarSwaminathan  Před 6 lety +1

      It's used in RAC to take care of load balancing between instances on different nodes by redirecting requests to another node
