    Hi Geselle, so happy to have found the community. I am currently doing my prereqs and I feel discouraged. I hear how important it is to get As in all your prereqs so wondering if I need to retake the classes I don’t get As for? I feel I need to find a mentor to help guide me through my journey. I have 3 small kids 5 and under so clearly I love challenges and so far I am proud of myself for what I have accomplished. I feel strong to get through my journey and succeed. I started looking into sonography 6 years ago and my passion for sonography has not gone away. The pandemic made me realize time is passing by and I needed to act on my passion so enrolled myself in school.

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Před 2 lety

      I am glad you have that passion! While As are important, the most important thing is knowing the directors/ advisors and talking to them personally. Telling them why youre doing this, show them your passion. Does your program allow for an interview? What are the requirements like for the program? Definitely think about joining my Facebook group to hear from other students!! The link is in my description box and everyone is willing to help!

    Hi geselle! About a week ago I had a chat with a nursing student and again got confused between choosing nursing or sonography, then I watched your DMS vs RN video again and uhh dms is still winning me over. 😄 Anyway, I'd like to ask how many subjects and how long does it usually take to finish the pre-reqs?

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Před 2 lety

      Hey Clarissa! Haha, I love that DMS is winning you over! They are both great career fields, just gotta see which one you'll love more and feel passionate about (in my opinion). There are your basic anatomy, physiology, maths, and sciences classes. But the program themselves usually take 2-4 years depending where you go. Pre-reqs on their own can take anywhere from 2-4 semesters depending on the program and how fast you go! :) Good luck and I hope to see more of you!!!

    • @jelomy526
      @jelomy526 Před 2 lety +1

      @@lolgeselle Thank you! Actually, I'm already looking at a school near the place I'm moving into. I saw two lists of subjects required to get into the program; one only includes the pre-req subjects like those you mentioned and the other list includes the general subjects on top of the pre-reqs. Altho I already have a bs degree (from the Ph), I'm afraid I'll have to take the general subjects too (most if not all) so that'll probably take 4 semesters before I can try getting into the actual progam. :(
      My chance of getting into the dms progam of the school I'm looking at will increase if I acquire any healthcare license or certificate like phlebotomy, so I plan on taking phlebotomy first while I complete the pre-reqs.
      DMS sounds exciting, challenging and pretty scary as I'm hearing it's really difficult so aside from getting phlebotomy and maybe advance studying(?), I wonder what other preparations I can do or if you can give me some advice to increase my chance of getting into the program and passing. I'm pretty scared I admit. xD

      @@jelomy526 it sounds like you’re doing your adequate research! The one thing I’d say is try to get to know the advisor/ counselor/ director of the program. Do things that’ll help you stand out and let them know who you are! Your story. Why you want to be part of the program and a Sonographer. We want dedicated, hard working students! I’m sure you will do your best in every way! ❤️❤️❤️

    I have a question. How long did it take for you to get the hang of patients, when it came to scanning, during clinical? Was it at the end of your first semester or further down the line? Patients can obviously be more difficult to scan than the students in my lab at school.
    This question can be for Giselle, or anybody that has done this kind of program. I’m currently in an echo program and have started clinicals 7 weeks ago.

    • @apulseofrachael1283
      @apulseofrachael1283 Před 2 lety +1

      It takes a while. Some patients are harder than others but if you keep scanning as much as possible you will learn different things you have to do and also critical thinking for how to improve your images whether it be from coming from different angles and changing the patient position or transducer setting. Patients are definitely much harder than scanning students but just keep scanning!
