    So, fun fact, this card was supposed to be named Cyber VARI (as in variation), but because of how similar L and R sounds in Japanese, was mistranslated (like Buster Rancher)

    This was Actually Meta? The story of Spirit Reaper

    • @cinemacynic980
      @cinemacynic980 Před 2 lety

      Spirit Reaper was never Meta, but it was Anti-Meta. People would use it for Stall/Mill decks. A Marshmallon, Needleworm or Jar deck will use Spirit Reaper in order to have protection from direct attacks.
      Karibou was never meta, even though it had received some support cards, but they never finished him - along with the Lvl cards.

    Newer players will never know the struggle of playing in a tournament and getting paired up against someone with an SJC CCV and Sarc in their deck.

    • @jaggededge11
      @jaggededge11 Před 3 lety

      @Somerset Belenof It's crazy because DAD-Return was an already expensive deck. Those 2 cards alone ended up costing just as much as the remainder of the entire deck.
      Even when CCV was reprinted in GLD1, it only managed to cut it's price in half (As it's pull rate was about 1 per 50).
      Needless to say, it felt damn good shutting down a several thousand dollar deck with budget trash.

    • @jaggededge11
      @jaggededge11 Před 3 lety

      @Somerset Belenof At the time, I was playing Six Samurai (As well as Sack Samurai), and Gladiator Beasts. Of course, this was GBs before winning SJC Minneapolis (Which ended up skyrocketing the deck's value).
      Funny enough, I had all the cards to run DAD return (I think actually twice over) but much rather preferred playing with budget/rouge decks (Or wherever Six Samurai were at that point in the game).
      Honestly, I've enjoyed Yu-gi-oh throughout all of it's formats. Well, at least until Links were introduced.

    • @jaggededge11
      @jaggededge11 Před 3 lety

      @Somerset Belenof I honestly didn't mind synchro format. Heck, I remember playing GB's because I could main Legendary Jujitsu Master, Book of Moon and Compulsory without much of a downside. Dimension Fusion made this card overpowered, especially with Machine Dupe. I remember that a few stall decks tried utilizing the combo because what would happen is that you could literally banish it during your opponent's Battle Phase, stop them from attacking you and draw some free extra cards in helping you stall out. There was not really much you could do back then to get around something like that, and you was basically screwed. But there was some other cheeky things you could do to abuse Cyber Valley, but the whole stalling tactic was one of the most common ways Cyber Valley got abused from what I remember.

    Hey I appreciate the love for Cyber Valley, I personally used it in my Cyber Dragon deck it was great as draw power and a shield. Using it with machine duplication is +2 in card economy, summoning the first Valley, dup it, then get two more on the field, and banish 2 for two more cards. Very simple not that flashy, but it did get 4 cards out of your deck and they were good targets for a power bonded Pair Cycroid back then.

    Cyber Valley is essentially a Battle Fader that takes up a normal summon but allows you to go hand neutral. Just in that context alone makes it seem good, even by modern standards it could probably be played in a Mystic Mine deck.

    Dimension Fusion made this card very powerful, you could also banish it to stop a battle phase and draw 1 card meaning it had some utility on stall decks at the time. The last effect of placing cards from your GY to the top of the deck was there for even more utility despite not being used often due to it's steep cost.
