How To Make Speargun Rubbers

  • This is a quick demonstration by Adreno's two-time Australian Ladies spearfishing champion, Kahlee Andrews, on how to make a rubber for your speargun.
Ensure that your rubber has been cut to the correct length; this is crucial in order to get the best power and accuracy out of your gun and gives you the best chance of getting your target fish. See 0:50 in the video for a basic length guide.
Insert the bridle into the rubber using your insertion tool and silicone spray. Make sure you get the bridle deep enough that you will be able to tie it off later. To tighten the constrictor cord you can use two screwdrivers or the scissors and insertion tool like Kahlee in the video.
The items that you will need include:

    - Insertion Tool: www.spearfishin...
    - Scissors: www.spearfishin...
    - Constrictor cord: www.spearfishin...
    - Bridle: www.spearfishin...
    - Silicone spray or Lube: www.spearfishin...
    - Lighter

Another tip to get a better constrictor knot and a longer lasting rubber:
    1. Once you have your loose constrictor knot, fasten one end of the line to a fixed point on your work bench.
    2. Place the other end of the line around a screw driver or your insertion tool.
    3. Lubricate the rubber and line so that it can slip around the rubber.
    4. Pull the constrictor line tight and using your free hand, spin the rubber back in forth whilst gently pulling the line tighter.
This will give you a tighter constrictor and it wont tear the rubber.

It's actually a "constrictor knot" if you notice how the working end is run under the other side of the knot as opposed to the side a clove hitch would be.

Anything around 2mm or smaller would be fine.
Builders string is what I use. It’s cheap and you get a lot on a roll

Get your mind out of the gutter dude... and just make sure you choose the correct size rubber and use plenty of lube for easier insertion and to avoid a torn rubber. Also remember to go slow and have a good mushroom head and it'll last a long time
