Isnt the reason why people use mono is for the penetration, If its blue water should you prioritize penetration? I mean a 30L float provides 30kg of resistance and crimped mono breaks just above 100kg (or well the stuff Rob Allen tested), why sacrifice penetration for 30kg more breaking strain that is not required?

I have personally never heard that theory about penetration. What I will say is that in blue water especially its not always likely that my shaft even goes entirely through the fish and out the other side. Sometimes its only just enough to have my floppers or slip tip engage. So either line, wouldn't have been pushed through the fish because the shaft wasn't pushed through the fish far enough...if that makes sense!

@@JoshDaMunoz Theres a video on youtube by majdq8 called spearfishing shooting line testing. Setup is kept identical and the only thing that changes is the shooting line and shots are taken in a pool. Worth the watch. If I remember correctly 2mm dyneema loses like 20cm of penetration and even 1.2mm cable has better penetration than it, due to the amount of extra drag. I have no clue, I'm not a bluewater spearfisherman, I shoot off reef fish but made me make changes to my setups
