- In this video I create a borosilicate glass vortex marble from start to finish.
Starting out I form a thin colored rod using blue green frit (crushed glass) to be a support behind the “stairs”. The steps are first added as dots and then plunged into the initial conical gather of the clear rod. The frit cane is added along with gold fumed dots in the surrounding space. Orange background completes the design. The back side is built out in my usual process with raked color lines using aqua blue, satin green and blue, floating over the reflective silver fumed base.

Thank you once again for posting the vids in real time,I have watched every episode of your marble adventures and it seems like I always find a new nugget of technique if I pay close attention. Your discussion of the internal geometry was excellent and will be useful to anyone wanting to make a Vortex Marble.
Very cool... always wondered how you did these wicked marbles!
This one got me thinking, how would you go at pushing in lots of mushrooms into a marble? we can't wait for some better weather, so we can get into the studio
