    Can Optoma's UHD30 stand in for a gaming monitor? Does 240hz refresh rate look good on a big screen? With HDR 10, 4k and a screen that can be as big as your wall, is it worth it to check out projectors again?

      I love the subtle roast!
      Many CZcamsrs promise all kinds of wonders with ear buds like these, so this is really refreshing.
      I've got a pair of soundcore ear buds, not this model, and they are good for the price (40 bucks, I think) but that's all and you shouldn't expect any more fron them.
      They're clearly a choice of convenience over sound quality (which is pretty much the whole concept of this type of product anyway) but still sound good at that. I like using them when I'm going somewhere by bus or train and don't want to carry a bag to store my oe headphones in when I'm at my destination.

      @Billy West It's still fucking stupid to say that. Yeah, it might seem obvious to you, but when dealing with expensive hardware, it'd be dumb not to just because "it seems obvious". It gets intimidating when money is on the line, and it's mean of you to call them stupid for looking up a tutorial. Besides, as history has proven, the people who want convenience far outnumber the people who care more about quality. Especially for something like gaming, a hobby that's supposed to be enjoyable. They are the market.

    • @thewitchcoven
      @thewitchcoven Před 3 lety +1

      @Billy West You sound very pretentious and far too sure of assets you don't possess. Yeah man, people default to asking more knowledgeable people for help. That's how we as a species succeed. Confidence will get you killed more than it will help, and with an attitude like that, you might have a lot of trouble in your life. I don't see your problem with needing help. Sometimes, it's a good thing to ask people for things, especially when they seem really simple. Like, I make clothing for fun, and there's a suprising amount of things that I never could have realized on my own. I still don't see how the simplification of games is inherently a bad thing. There's a lot of unnecessary complexity to many things. Removing complexity that doesn't add depth is a wholly good thing. I hope you get help with whatever keeps you from depending on others.

  • @headmd
    @headmd Před 3 lety +15

    As someone experienced in projector installation, this video hurts. The reason Optoma sacrifices keystone adjustment for less input lag is because keystone adjustment should be avoided anyway, especially in a home theater setup. (Side fact: Cinema projectors actually don't provide any keystone adjustment because the whole movie industry would never allow it.) Keystone adjustment is a post-process done in the digital domain, which means you are significantly sacrificing the image resolution when using it.
    When installing projectors it's expected that the user installs it UPSIDE-DOWN in the ceiling, at the correct height for the height of the screen that is planned. Perhaps Optoma didn't provide enough instructions regarding this but I have a feeling it was rather the LTT guys not RTFM.
    Well, sucks to be Optoma i guess.

    • @skurasch

      Bro everyone mounts their projector like that. I'm not a fan of this projector but nearly all of his criticisms come from pure ignorance of using projectors. You also lose significant quality with keystone adjustments and they are never meant to be used in a high end setup. Projectors have their weaknesses, like you mentioned, the necessary light control in the room. But none of the weaknesses are having the projector fans audible because it's right next to your head or not being able to sit in the center. You also can get a short throw projector if space is an issue; however, the reason most projectors are long throw is because the average person buying a projector is doing so because they want a bigger seating area that's not really compatible with the size of televisions.

So you would have more latency and less resolution out of the thing. And I'm not surprised that you can get high refresh rates out of dlps considering how fast the dlp chips move.
    Laser projectors are the way of the future. No shifting as they heat up, and they turn on an off at the flick of a switch, plus a heck of a lot better color contrast. And a big protector and a screen is way less than an LED wall any day of the week.

    I really loved my AAXA P7 mini projector. It is 1080p and only $370. Plus it is tiny at 5x5x3 inches though it is not short throw either. The input lag was fine over hdmi.
    The only problem that I had where I decided to return it is that the only screen size I could get to work at the available position was 60+ inches at an uncomfortable height. It was just way to big for a screen 2 feet away from where my I sit in my chair. The other drawback is that the focus wheel was way too stiff so I could never get text to appear without some blur.
    The screen is bright enough even in window lit rooms. Dark games are difficult to play due to the low contrast with blacks and near black colors. (it gets better in a dark room but still can have you running around blind in Diablo 3) It does this for dark movies too but they can still be very watchable.

The base isn't quite as strong as my HyperX Cloud 2's but are still pretty punchy (the Cloud 2's have 60mm drivers and the Q30's have 40mm drivers so this is to be expected). Battery life is amazing though, I've only charged them once so far and still have around 40% battery. Latency is pretty good though I've not tried to game with them yet. Active noise canceling is pretty decent, I don't have any other noise canceling headphones to compare against but it does a good enough job of drowning out my computer fans. Transparency mode is a bit weird, it seems to amplify higher frequencies so certain things are really loud but it is handy to be able to talk to someone real quick while still playing music in the background or if you're waiting for a timer to go off and want to make sure you hear it. Sound quality overall is pretty good, for those who call themselves audiophiles you may want to look elsewhere as if you are that picky then no pair of bluetooth headphones will ever satisfy you (you should also try to understand the psychological factors that determine what you consider to be good). That said I feel the sound is on par with my Cloud 2's and the freedom of wireless is really nice, I've refrained from going wireless in the past due to short battery life and the myriad problems of bluetooth audio but those don't seem to be an issue here.

    So I've just nailed the UHD35 which is an improved version of this. Given the research and this WTF moment with the keystone\geometry controls, I thought I'd contribute here in case you are thinking of nailing it.
    I nearly sent it back because it still has no HV keystone with gaming mode on. However, having done some research I've learnt that I don't really want the keystone adjustments, at least not digital ones, because it will degrade the image. Naturally to get the fast path for gaming, the picture would need to do some processing and buffer to cover the processing time, so it seems at this price point no geometry adjustments exist. Optical ones would be nice, but I haven't found any so far. Lens shift would also solve the issue, but haven't found optical lens shift at this price point, with low input lag. Digital lens shift sounds like it's just eating your vertical resolution and well, you'd have to have keystone as well presumably as the projector is still going to be pointing, well, where the projector is.
    So, I don't know as they think we're suckers, I just think that it comes down to cost and understanding that, if you're going to do this, you need to be prepared to position the thing so it's hitting straight on to the wall\projector screen. To that end I am accepting that I'll have to ceiling mount and drop it down a bit. Because the projector is then upside down, it projects bottom up normally and so top down. So the height of your projected image is governed (roughly) by the height a which you mount the projector.
    In the UK, the typical ceiling height in a modernish home is 2.4m (~8feet), so I plan to have mine dropped by about 60cm, which means the top of my "screen" is going to be approx. 1.8m (6feet) from the floor. on a 90" screen this gives it a height of ~1.1m (3.5feet) and will be off the floor by ~70cm (2.3feet).
    80" is a bit different, but still similar, the screen is smaller of course and so the bottom is a bit higher from the floor, the top is the same. Naturally you could go lower, though it may look increasingly weird, depending on where you're mounting it. For me this is above my office desk (man cave!) so it's not going to be an issue.
    Plenty of folks mount TVs above their fireplaces and get along fine. I'm not a fan of this, because I don't fancy looking up all the time, I prefer looking straight ahead, but... if I want a projector with a 80"+ screen and low input lag for gaming, then this is the sacrifice I'm going to have to make and if you CAN make this work in your environment, then you might get along with this projector just fine.
    For me, as I am moving next week, I dare not unbox this before then. It's my 1st projector and I'll be hooking it up to my gaming PC and PS5 (latter also still in the box!). So I'll pop back and let you know how it went when I get it up and running and if popping my projector cherry was everything I had hoped.
    Btw, I NAILED A PS5 pretty easy by joining the stockinformer website's discord chat. I joined it like last week, got pinged within TWO DAYS on my phone on discord and I order one from Amazon at the regular list price a minute or two later and it came the next day. Please avoid the scalpers and try this if you're after a PS5, XBox or any one of the uber rare items stockinformer has on the list, i.e. GPUs.
