  • In this video, I take apart the PSX DESR-7700.
Not much documentation is out there on how to take one of these apart, so I took it upon myself to share my experience.
Hope this serves as a guide for those interested.

Just got me a DESR-7700 and may need to replace a laser. Seems that it will read the old blue discs with no issues, which laser should I look to replace to have the console read the non-blue discs?

The XCP-005 with the FPGA also contains the SPEED chip (CXD9731GP), which is also used in the PS2 network adaptor and early Slim PS2s and provides the console with IDE and the network interface. On XCP-001 consoles, it's installed directly on the motherboard. No idea what the FPGA does, though. The only thing I know is that XCP-001 consoles don't have any equivalent to it.
The XDV-005 on the EE+GS side contains the iLink/Firewire interface, that was only built into the 7500 and 7700 consoles.

What ever happened to your laser situation?

Hey awesome video. I was wondering if you know why a Psx wouldn’t have any audio? I have a 7500 with a failed HDD and the video outputs seem to work but neither the optical or analog audio outputs work, even through opl in FMCB. I assume it’s something wrong with the daughter board but I didn’t see anything blown or bad caps

Can you please finish telling us what you were saying at the end of part 1 when you thought the laser was a dud?
