Thanks! Yes, I watch videos like this to pump myself up to fix things at my house that I'll only ever do maybe once or twice in my life. It's good to watch people who know what they're doing, like you, and then try to copy you.
After watching how to do this I now can confidently say I'm going to call a professional! haha
Always!
We are definitely amateurs so really appreciate your expertise and knowledge, we have a lot to learn!! Thanks!
For anyone else wanting to know, that tool he shows for blind nail pulling seems to be a Dasco Pro 640 Shingle Ripper.
I just bought an older house with a combination of brick (lower) and hardyboard just like this ... and I have rot in several lower places, especially the detached garage which is all board. This info really helped. Thanks!
Wow. What a nice JOB! And thank you for not putting that annoying music in your video!
What did people do back in tha day before CZcams and awesome people that go; “you know what? Someone might wanna know how to do this! And…we might a little chedda cheese too!” 😂 👍🏽 thanks gents.
Thanks for the video. I will be doing a bunch of siding replacement on my house shortly and this video helps a lot! I was on a forum asking what nail gun people would use for siding. Got a lot of conflicting answers (although helpful) and probably started some opinion battles, but from watching how you do it a hammer and nails will probably suffice. It will also save me a couple hundred bucks that the nailer and compressor would cost so I can buy a nice chalk reel!
Best siding repair video ever
Thanks so much, Jodi!!
Hello... you have just saved me a great amount of money. Very instructional... hardest part was finding the nails and removal. Thanks for taking the time to provide this for the DIYer.....!
I think that this guy did a great job explaining this. It helped me out a lot. Thanks
Excellent video, very straight forward & informative, thank you
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I watched the entirety of the video, and I don't even own a house!
This is really great; thank you!
We just bought an old home (b. 1900) and I'm mentally gearing up to tackle some projects on my own. This really helped me visualize and fully understand what I'm going to be doing with some of the rotten boards. Thank you.
I hope the video helps! Good luck with your projects and make sure you subscribe. I have a ton of home repair videos on the way and plenty already uploaded if you want to snoop around! Thanks for watching!
Congratulations, same here, age of home too
Thanks man, I feel like my siding skill leveled up from this
My Grandpa and Dad were great woodworkers. Grandpa did well as a home builder
in the 1920"s. Dad was very intellectual and did well for himself in management.
I failed miserably in showbusiness. (But I'm still trying). Dad died and I got the house.
So this siding video is great for my siding repair job that needs to be done.
Great job Mr Fixing man. Enjoyed your video.
Great work! Thanks for the tips! 👌👍
Beautiful work!
I am a single mother, i am trying to fix one part of my front house siding, this help. I will see if I can do it. Thank you.
Nice job lads!
Awesome vid. Thanks guys.
Superb work, as usual 👏

I'm looking at fixing some siding and this is the exact issue I'm running into. Same material and problem and now it just seems like a much easier job to accomplish! Thank you for your video!

Very helpful video. I need to replace a small section. Thanks for your insights.
Hope it helps! Thanks for watching, John!
Great help!
I like the fact that you hand nailed the siding so you can feel if you are hitting a stud and not just shooting into the siding
Good job !
Nice instruction 😊
Great video and very helpful thanks!
Glad it helped!
Love you videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
So helpful thank you!
Appreciate the valuable info, thanks a lot!
No problem! Hope it helps! Thank YOU for watching!
Great video amazing thanks
Can you apply the same repair method for vertical siding as well?
If I ever own a house I'd be wanting you to do repairs excellent work on all vids I have seen😁
Thanks so much, Beth! I really appreciate that!
You are the king
Another great video, thank you again. Do you happen to have a video out on vinyl siding on replacing corners and broken pieces ? Thank you again
Hi thanks for the video. Where to find the wood siding?
Your videos r the bomb
And I thought I’ve seen em all. 🤔
I did get to it from fixer 2 though so that’s pretty cool.
Well done mate
Thank you so much! We'll done explained.
This is awesome I needed to see that right now, it's been 2 years on this temporary job, I bet money it's still holding in lasting.. Temporary
😆 lol
Hi, do you have a similar video on how to repair a rotting soffit / eave up on the roof line? I need to repair a couple of spots there and wondered if there were any differences or tips/tricks to doing that type of repair. Thanks!
Beautiful.
hi there, what is the name of the pry bar you used to remove the hidden nails?
Fantastic video
Thank you! Hope it helps if you ever do something like this! Thanks for watching!
I need to replace some siding pieces, my house has LP Smartside 38 series 3/8” x 12” x 16’; I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Would the 7/16” thickness work beside my already installed 3/8” pieces? Or do you have a recommendation on another product that would work in its place?
Great fix from the bottom up.
Thanks, Cheryl!
Great work as always!
Y'gotta let us know if Mike returned your chopsaw 😉!
Haha thanks, Melinda! I will let you know 😁😁
Thank you!
I love your show
DIY thanks sharing
Thanks for this video. I have to questions: Are those hardiboards and what type of saw blade did you used to cut it with? Thank you Sir.
Aren’t you suppose to leave gaps for expansion? And also put flashing behind each joint?
good job
Had concrete around garage in old house
Guy took it off old concrete. He said I need to replace rotten vinyl around based of garage before pouring new concrete. Do I just use a 2" nail gun to nail the new vinyl or do I use nails?? He also said I need to water proof it with outside paint or something.
Do you have to put chalk or glue or anything or just nail it and paint later?
Thanks
EXCELLENT!
Hope the video helps if you need to do something like this! Thanks for watching!
Whi not to do 2 feet plinth of cement board with nice waterproof finish along the entire deck?
Good job ! I must say that this type of siding is a pitta when it starts rotting... even the newer versions of it rot in the long-run. Such a cheap product in my book. I've seen framing rot and mid-wall boards rot too and when the process starts, it will never ever end. Now that I've said my peace loll... good video and thanks for posting.
Yes I agree. Thanks for checking out the video!
Mira-tech siding, I used to sell it but I would never use it myself and I tried to steer people away from buying it
Thanks!
Hey Paul, thanks so much! I appreciate it and for watching the video!
You HAVE to prime those cuts when installing LP SmartSide. There should also be some flashing in between butt joints.
not to mention the 3/16 gap needed on each end as well as the butt joint gap. This is going to buckle at some point.
You’re right and he should have mentioned it, but i think it will outlast the deck it’s sitting on, especially if he gets a gutter up there.
I’d like to see some follow up pics a year later.
Hey said in the beginning that it’s a temporary fix
@@daniel.weinert i think you're right my house got caulk at the joints and they're cracking so it's visible
Where can i buy one of tjose blind nail pullers
thanks
Nice 🙂
Where did you buy your long nail-removal tool? (There are a bunch of these on Amazon, but none of them are approved by all buyers.)
The Fixer 👍
Greetings from Chile... ❤❤❤
Hello, Mar Estrella! Thanks for stopping by!!
Would you vinyl over old wood or strip?
What kind of siding is this and where did you purchase it?
Odd Question. What brand of boots are the ones you're wearing. They look wide and I have a wide foot it's tough to find comfortable boots. I know it's an old video so no worries if you don't remember.
Than you for the video. Love it that you were using tools I own and not $20,000 hammers etc. LOL. I saw the video is a couple of years old. If you were doing this today would you have chosen to use the Ryobi track saw? Is it worth it for the straight line impaired?
One of the cuts was curved because the deck sagged so a track saw wouldn't work there. All of the cuts are hidden too so a track saw, although a great tool, wouldn't be necessary. If the cuts were shorter than the track saw track it could be fast, but long ones require the chalk line. If precision were needed I guess he could do a partial cut and move the track saw up and continue. You sound like a precision guy but this is rough carpentry.
Very informative! Great job
Thank you! Hope the video helps you out if you ever need to do some siding!!
Where can I buy it from
Why do you nail and not screw in siding? I have to replace mine as well and this video will save me. Thanks.
are you using a drill or impact?
No gutters in Massachusetts. Wow!
why didnt you put tyvek behind the first part you replaced?
DON'T SKIP :
As a handyman and painter, I'd strongly recommend you use can primer(zinser) to spray your cut edges and exposed nail heads before you paint. Rust and moisture are not your friend.
Caulking isn't optional.
From the video, previously it was nailed at the bottom of each siding. Why do you nail on the top of the each siding?
Ring the Bell 🛎️
All but that bottom seem you did a good job.
Did you use galvanized nails?
Yes, I used galvanized siding nails. Thanks for watching!
👍
Can you provide de nails information please
What happened to the Copper flashing?
That tool is called a rake. We use them to remove shingles and slate roofing.
Where u get sliding from
We got this siding from lowes…
Damn I wish you live close to me.. I have the same problem with an addition and no gutter..caused rotting wood and I need it replaced 😫
I was just thinking of the days when they had Real wood siding Cedar that lasted for 50 years at least
