Yeah if you watch the denmark game. The players weren’t bad. Kane didn’t get service but he took his chance. Foden was playing centrally and was decent. Bellingham sacrificed his game for Foden, progressed the ball a lot. Saka progressed the ball a lot. But. There’s a massive lack of cohesion that wouldn’t be answered this tournament. Bellingham runs, muscles his way through the midfield to the final third, triple teamed, isolated. Bellingham passes the ball to Foden, dribbles good, double teamed, isolated. They pass the ball to Saka, progressed the ball further than anyone else, good defense by the one marking him, can hand the ball off? Yup. Isolated. Kane dropping deep to help the midfield, holds up the play, no runners. Quadruple teamed, isolated. So they passed the ball back down, until the ball reaches Pickford, reset, Bellingham gets the ball, near the final third, passes to Foden, double teamed, drifts wide, passes back to trippier. Reset Saka gets the ball, reaches near the rival goal, isolated pass back to walker, and Denmark presses good, until it’s only Stones, Guehi, and Rice passing the ball around for either a reset with Pickford or a throw in from Walker or Trippier.
It was hilarious. Never really watched much England matches, just never analyzed it much. Zero cohesion. They have the best player in the world with Bellingham, runs the ball no one other than him and Kane pushes. Zero threat. Foden outselfished everyone, zero threat. Saka who was great always Isolated with zero support, zero threat. Harry Kane, scariest striker in the world. Zero service, zero threat. Any good defensive team can lock them down. And a good defensive team has some long ranger shooters and great counter attacks. Zero play. They tried to avoid stepping on each other so much they just leave you once you have the ball. It’s a shit show

Overrated players sadly - once your league sells out and now their home grown players are drowned out by talent from abroad. Look at the top 8 team... all their best players are Egyptian, Dutch, Belgian, Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian, Argentinian, etc. Perhaps only Saka and Pickford are the star player at their club (bar Kane & Bellingham abroad).

Jude was decent, progressed the ball a lot and won some duels. It’s just that, he and Foden have the same problem. The whole attack actually. They get isolated a lot. When I say, don’t step on each other’s toes and you’ll be fine. Not like this. Lol. Jude pushes the ball forward, no one running in front of him, triple teamed, pass back to rice. Foden push from the middle, they slack off Jude, double team, pass back to Trippier. Saka pushes the ball out wide, isolated too. Pass back to Walker. And Harry Kane once again got zero service. Lol. They avoid each other so much, as to not mess with each other? They isolated each others. It’s a shit show.
England theoretically has the best player in the world, Jude Bellingham. The best player in the world, Harry Kane. The best player in England, Phil Foden. The best player in England, Saka. And other elite players. They even played decently and in the “correct” positions. Foden was in the middle, Jude was in the middle, saka was pushing right, Walker was overlapping, Kane stayed up top for the most part. But it’s like they only have the basic package in terms of tactics and cohesion, that a decent defense just destroys them. They need a miracle from Bellingham last game and a miracle from Kane this game.
Moral of the story? You can have the best talents but if the talents don’t know how to play with each other and just leave you behind every time you have ball, you’re gonna lose brother.
Jude needs to remember he doesn’t have 2 clinical finishers and runners he can shadow, he has Harry Kane who doesn’t run now. Foden needs to remember to pass the ball to Harry Kane. And Ska needs to not touch the ball if they’re just gonna isolate him like that. It’s like they’re setting him up to fail. Lol. And most importantly Kane needs to remember the service from England is shit. You’re not in Bayern Munich now bro. 433 with Gordon, Watkins and Saka up top, Foden, Rice, and Bellingham in midfield, Gomez, Guéhi, Walker and Trent at the back. In possession, TAA can go inverted and form the box midfield and Walker can cover. This gives us tons of creativity and good cover.

Remember Denmark really struggled against Slovenia both in the qualifiers where they won at home and drew away, and here because I'd argue that Slovenia is a much better team than England. England has better players, sure. But Slovenia is a much better team. If England doesn't turn up and take Slovenia seriously, they will lose, and then 3rd place finish is the likely outcome as Denmark almost always pulls out a win when they have to.

Bellingham plays in that advanced role for Real Madrid because the Mbappe deal fell through, and they didn't want to splash on an alternative striker for 1 season when they knew they'd be getting Mbappe for free next year
Ancelotti played Bellingham there because of his ability to hit the box, to compensate for a lack of striking options. England don't have that same problem - they have Kane - so they don't need to use him the same way
Rice as a 6, and Foden-Bellingham as dual 8s with defensive responsibilities. That's England best midfield. Play a proper winger on the left too. That's how you fit them all in & I hope they don't figure that out because I personally enjoy England being the biggest bottlers in international football!
Rice can't play the holding role. His passing is atrocious, we can't play two ahead of him. That's what Southgate means about Phillips. Rice needs a more stable player next to him or he's completely lost. Guy is so overated and it shows as Arteta stopped playing him there at club level.

@CaelanDafydd and only played there once in 2024, the game they lost to Villa. Rest of the time was Partey or Jorginho as it became obvious he can't collect from the back 4 and progress the ball onwards. He's better further forward.

@CaelanDafydd I think so, tough choice as he is probably the best wall winner we have but his ability with the ball really hurts us. My opinion is we can go 2 ways one is play him with pace all around and look to counter or we leave him out and look to dominate the ball. I just don't see a way that we can mix those two and expect results.

Plus, the analysis of Saka's abilities is woefully unfair. Yes, he plays with world class players at arsenal and he provides much of the chance creation, but in order for him to create chances, someone needs to be there to take those chances. That has been the problem twice with England now. Saka making the runs, Walker sometimes supporting him, but nobody for Saka to cross / pass to because they're all still halfway down the pitch defending as if they're a league two side up against the PL side.

When attacking turns into 3 at the back like City/Liverpool play. Trent moves forward to make use of his forward thinking passes. When Kane drops deep Bellingham moves forward like he has for Madrid. Could even still play Foden on left and Jude and Phil swap with fluidity like they do for their clubs (but i think natural winger in Gordon offers more defencively and attacking). The only way we will do well with this manager though is to play a rigid formation with two dm's and only one of either Foden or Jude. He doesnt have the capacity or nouse to play the above. I'd sack him and see if Eddie Howe is available to us through the rest of the tournament.
