@@randomdaveUK I feel like people are forgetting that we had a really nice goal ruled out for offside (obviously the correct decision, but we created the chance) and that we hit the post. We were creating chances
It's not character this squad is missing, it's creativity. It has always been creativity that has been missing from England in international tournaments. England has too many system players, players who excel under a specific system that utilizes their strongest attributes. Cole Palmer is the only player I can think of that isn't a system player, he just balls no matter where he's on the pitch.
Best manager in 40-50 years? Our 'success' is beating Panama, Colombia, Ukraine, Denmark, and losing every big game with no tactical plan or understanding, mismanaging the greatest squad of players in the entire tournament. Bobby Robson would be turning in his grave if he heard that quote, Gary. In my lifetime I would still have Venables or Hoddle over Southgate any day of the week.
You can believe what you want, mate, but the fact is among England managers, Ramsey won a title, making him the most successful, and Southgate got to a final and lost, making him second most successful. These are facts.
Just wondering what Neville is on as a man untd fan I thought he was more rational and realistic but I can see he is more loyal to his friend gareth than actually making sense
Who are these jokers? A good manager is someone who creates a good team, not someone who just picks the same 11 every game because they're good in the Premier League. Southgate is England's Personnel Director, not a manager...
I don't know what game the commentators watched. But, I saw England get through by the skin of their pants. For me, the team lacks confidence, they have the talent, so why don't they use it? Easy, no self belief!
I'm sorry but Southgate isn't the best manager we've had for 40 years. He is genuinely devoid of any managerial talent and tonight showed that perfectly. We have the best squad in this tournament (despite Southgate trying to ruin that as well bringing Shaw) and we have a wealth of attacking talent that he doesn't use. He sets up exactly the same every game - there is no thought about the actual opposition that we're playing. His game management is seriously lacking, both in terms of changing shape and subs. At half time we were crying out to change that front 3 - bringing on Toney with 2 mins are you joking? We didn't win that tonight because of Southgate - we won that because of pure chaos. I'm not even sure what formation or style of play we were going for at the end. About 8 defenders, Saka playing in goal probably - it was pure chaos and we won from a long throw and a magical bicycle kick.
I've been around for 40 years and in the 30 years I've been watching soccer, every manager England has had has sucked. Southgate however has been the worst of the bunch.
England before has always struggled to get to where Southgate brings us now. Consistently getting to the late stages of the tournaments is something England were never able to achieve. People forget us nearly not qualifying for the world cup in 2001, the difference now is that we don’t even think about the qualifiers!
Neville is talking nonsense, hoping the FA is listening. Venables, Robson, abd Hoddle were all great coaches. The first two managed Barcelona, successfully.

All due respect did you see how shite are actual players are. Use your eyes. At some point you actually have to blame them. Some of the best players in the world and perform like they’ve never played in front of a crowd before. Im completely opposite to you. I think England can go far if the players and the manager pull their finger out. They are the best on paper. But the players are playing poorly for their manager , as well as some poor decisions.
Play Tony up front with kane, Sarja at left back, Palmer on the right. The team we ended up with. Tony was epic, heald up the ball, suggested to walker about the headed flick on, the throwing before the goal, and then assisted kane! Gareth Southgate, as the manager of the England national football team, has garnered both praise and criticism throughout his tenure. While he led England to the Euro 2020 final and achieved notable success in other tournaments, there are valid arguments suggesting why some believe he should be sacked. Critics argue that Southgate's tactical decisions, particularly in crucial moments of matches, have been questionable. His conservative approach in certain games, opting for defensive strategies or late substitutions, has been criticized for stifling England's attacking potential and failing to capitalize on momentum. This was notably observed during the Euro 2020 final against Italy, where England lost in a penalty shootout after taking an early lead but failing to maintain it. Furthermore, Southgate's team selections and squad management have faced scrutiny. Some pundits and fans argue that he has been overly cautious in integrating young talents and relying on experienced but possibly out-of-form players. This has raised concerns about his ability to optimize the squad's potential and adapt to changing game dynamics effectively. Criticism also extends to Southgate's record in major tournaments. Despite reaching the final of Euro 2020, England's performances in key matches have been inconsistent under his leadership. The team's inability to secure victories against top-tier opponents in decisive moments has led to questions about Southgate's capacity to deliver success in high-pressure situations. Off-field issues, such as his handling of player discipline and team morale, have also been cited as areas of concern. While Southgate has been praised for fostering a positive team environment and promoting unity, instances of internal discord or controversial incidents involving players have raised questions about his management style and ability to maintain discipline. In conclusion, while Gareth Southgate has achieved significant milestones with the England national team, including reaching the Euro 2020 final and advancing through challenging qualification stages, there are legitimate criticisms regarding his tactical decisions, squad management, and ability to deliver consistent success in major tournaments. Whether he should be sacked ultimately hinges on whether the Football Association believes he can address these concerns and lead England to greater achievements in the future.
Every team we've played against has locked down the midfield in front of their area and nullified any attacking threat from England. It's not a proper 4231, it's 433 with 2 DMs. Portugal play a proper 4231 with 3 players working as interchangeable No10s and fullbacks providing the overlap. England need a left footed LB in there, to put a winger on each wing (surprise) and give whoever is next to Rice the freedom to go forward. It's so stagnant in midfield we lack control...

0:30 He’s been England’s best manager for 40 or 50 years? What a load of utter garbage. England have gone the furthest in tournaments under him than a lot of others but that’s because of an insanely lucky run in knockouts and having one of the most talented squads in generations. Please stop with this absolute nonsense just because he’s your mate and you want continued media access.

People give Shitgate so much credit for "getting to 4 quarter finals" when we've done it playing awful, boring, defensive, imbalanced football & fluking our way past teams struggling to get into the top 40 in the world. Every time we play a half decent top 10 team we lose, can't even create 1 opportunity to get a shot on target in over 90 minutes of football against Slovakia (45th seed).
He is the worst manager we've had in decades who is protected by the media because he wears a funny little waistcoat & "looks after the players" by letting them play darts, do adverts, get on countdown & piss about in the pool on the inflatables instead of spending that valuable time creating tactics, balanced team sheets & a game plan to actually win games.

Sir Alf, Sir Bobby Robson and Venables were our best. There is no feeling like it was in 96. Totally flat now...

Colombia was a draw
The english are delusional
You can believe what you want, mate, but the fact is among England managers, Ramsey won a title, making him the most successful, and Southgate got to a final and lost, making him second most successful. These are facts.
Just wondering what Neville is on as a man untd fan I thought he was more rational and realistic but I can see he is more loyal to his friend gareth than actually making sense
Foden has been utterly and absolutely shockingly CRAP!!! How on earth can he keep his place next week?!?!?

Foden was in pocketed by 37 years old Peter Pekarik who is already half retired and played total of 125 minutes in second bundesliga last season

Who are these jokers? A good manager is someone who creates a good team, not someone who just picks the same 11 every game because they're good in the Premier League. Southgate is England's Personnel Director, not a manager...

He got us to a final. They didn't
About 8 defenders, Saka playing in goal probably - it was pure chaos and we won from a long throw and a magical bicycle kick.
if gary is right and thinks he is the best manager then he should be happy for him to be the next united manager
What are you guys smoking? Southgate has been a disaster.
England must have had really shitty manages for the last 50 years if Gareth Southgate is the best they have had..😮
4231 not working. Seems the players would be more comfortable playing in 3421, so they can go pear-shaped.
Personally, I’d bring on a second striker. Maybe there would be more success with Kane dropping in as he does with a target man
Should play a 1234 Shaw at the back in a wheelchair position, Kane, Bellignham, Foden, and Palmer 4 up front and Rice playing as a false 9 and then usual diamond in the middle of the pitch. Definitely need more of the lads doing back flips in the box too, only way we are going to win this thing.

Gareth Southgate is the worst manager in 50 years can’t believe Neville thinks he is the best 😂😂💀
Yes defently
