The solution is the substitutions.. that changes the mood, the dynamic... Gareth still doesn't see that. Palmer changed the game again - make changes at 60 minutes, not 85.
Or even pick a formation and player combinations that works better as a team at the start then add the talent from the bench for tactical reasons eg energy, change in game management, different problems to pose to the opposition!
But I agree as you said, late subs were bizarre instead of earlier in the game given his starting tactics...

Jude is a lot of things but humble isn't one of them. That's not a criticism BTW, a lot of the world's best players have an arrogance about them. But he's not humble in any way, shape or form.
We can't keep having 75% possession, mainly in our own half, and not pepper their goal. My biggest concern is when we get caught without the ball. We are to easy to be broken down, out of shape.
I'm not here too bash any player. I just think Foden doesn't work in this team. He is a class player. But it reminds me of Gerrard Lampard Scholes when previous managers try play all 3.. Foden doesn't work with Bellingham. I think Foden should be better benched plus why is he taking every corner free kick. One free kick was perfect for Tripper and he didn't clear the wall

Bellingham shows that elite and serial winner's mentality... you could see on his face through most the second half that he was going to win it for England or die trying. Then a bicycle kick with 60 seconds left and the camera cut away and i can't really read lips but it looks like he was saying "who else?" to the fans during his celebration... Then in these interviews Harry Kane calls Jude's goal one of the best goals in England's history and is exaggerating the teams performance (I blame Tottenham) while Jude said his goal means little if they don't go all the way... England need somebody that expects them to win and i feel Bellingham is the first England player to feel that way in decades..
England could do better if Gareth Southgate locked in throughout as they are in the Quarter-Finals facing Switzerland. As of the goals, Bellingham’s goal was an extraordinary bicycle kick which surprised many and Kane’s wasn’t overall bad, just a header.
So proud of Gareth and the boys, people don't understand what they face out there, the fact that they are grinding out these results is amazing and if they can grow in fitness and confidence as the opposition start to feel pressure too, we might start to see some more compelling football. But what they've done here is the best England performance in a tournament with expectations that I've ever seen. We've learned some grit at last, they didn't just throw their toys out or roll over, still attacking til the end with the ability to produce a magic finish. If you can't appreciate this you can't appreciate football, full stop.

Our inability to keep the ball, pass through teams and create chances is excruciating. They say we've got technical players equipped for tournament football but we actually still don't have enough of them. And some of them aren't especially intelligent in their play.... I've just seen Spain demolish Georgia with proper football. We're miles short of them.
