"She was half-ghost, half scarecrow, but all witch!" What an epic diss lol
Even worse, without a trial and with no real evidence but rumors, she's had a headstone that proclaims her to be a witch since the 90s. If anyone were to do some real digging for information, this would probably be another sad tale, but not in the way people expect.
Hahahaha!!!! Yeah!! Dey shurrr got her guuddd!!! đ GMAFB
Reminds me of an old proverb:
"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel it's warmth."
I don't believe nor do I disbelieve this story. I do see some interesting aparitions in the smoke from these pics though. I wonder if they are from the actual fire. I have never heard of that saying "... to feel it's warmth." - Spooky.
Oh, how absolutely true that is... makes me think about the plot to the movie Silent Hill which we see was actually not so silent after all, was it?
@@shakingprayers220 spoiler alert :)
Wow, haven't heard that one. â€
@@kilobravo449 ikr. it resonates...
I'm from Yazoo City and have never seen anyone talk about this but locals... wow thank you for this.
My pleasure! Well some locals told me about the story !
My great-grand parent's were children when this happened. They were on farms in the countryside. They told my grandfather who I talked to about this it was mostly thought of as an accident. Fire was used for heating, cooking, even weeding out in the fields, or roadsides etc. Although yellow fever was around malaria was much more problematic. It caused most to be extremely lethargic during the summertime when you needed to be working in the fields, & often would come back every year. Three of my four grandparents picked cotton by 10 years old. They also contracted malaria along with most of their families.
Yâall know how happy I am as a southerner that the stories get in total wider audience my grandma used to scare the crap out of me using this telling me the witch is gon get you if you act bad
This story was very interesting. Its a good thing no one was hurt. But (being a cat lover) when the men found the poor suffering cats I was like "Free the Cats!" and was highly disappointed when the men just shut the door. I wonder if someone vandalized her grave? Thank you đ
JulieLivinLife should at least free them, fisherman would probably give em scraps so don't starve, every time I go fishing I give my lesser catches to the cats,
For 4 years in the late 1980âs, hubby and I lived in nearby Greenwood in Leflore County (named after Yazoo City founder Greenwood Leflore). I had never heard this story. We bought our first house there, built in 1955. In July 1986 we had a house fire due to an old gas water heater and lost a kitten. A few months later, part of the engineering firm where I worked had a fire. No trouble with fires since!
Sounds like an insurance scam that got out of hand to me
Interesting but skeletons canât dangle; they would fall apart.
Exactly!
and they never followed up to identify the bodies?
Not if you wire the bones together!
Witchcraft holds the bones together đ
Maybe they were wired together, like anatomical specimins
So we gone act like this lady didn't threaten to burn down the city and set a date to it
Wow...That was fascinating in a very macabre kind of way.
Iâm a native of Mississippi and live only about an hour away from Yazoo, but I have NEVER heard this story before. Thank you for sharing, but I have a feeling that itâs all just urban myth. Itâs unfortunate that eccentric women were always labeled as witches, ... she couldâve simply been a hoarder, very poor and may have suffered some kind of mental illness.
Great ! Thanks for watching đ
the trouble with hearsay is that its like what we called "Chinese whispers "when i was a child, over time facts get distorted, and people would remember the supposed curse when the fire occurred and would say :" this is the day the witch said she would burn the town down. " An interesting myth.
An old woman...keeps showing the back of a shapely young woman. Huh???
It's from the movie 'The Witch', but I definitely think it doesn't belong here.
My bad for showing it too often, I suppose I like the picture plus she old lady had to keep healthy to dispose of the bodies đ
The silhouette was HOTT
I know! I was like âdamn which!! Lookin fine!!â
CornKob Mansanto IKR!!
My mother was born and raised in Yazoo city. The witches grave had a huge chain around it. My grandfather and grandmother were buried in the same cemetery as the witch.
So are my grandparents! My dad was raised there.
@@southernyuppie my moms family was poor. They were raised on Graball Hill. lol
My parents were from Yazoo, my mother told me about this story years ago and she mentioned the chains that were put on the grave!
@@truetruth4233 when I saw the chain as a child there were links missing.

Mine 2 could they have been relatives of some kind
Yeeees!!! There is an old movie called the good ole boys and the witch of yazoo county... childhood fav that has virtually disappeared. Thank you!
Sounds interesting!
I have heard this story a few times but I found it was presented much more nicely by this channel! I think it really gave people a good idea about what and why she was.
As a Mississippian...I am shocked to never have heard this story!
What?! Must be a Delta legend.
Don't feel bad I ain't either
Since they're not sure how the fire started, could it have been deliberately set to make the legend true? Odd coincidence otherwise.
Now that would be some real dedication !
@@ForgottenLives takes all kinds of people to make a world đ€
Possible... honestly though it was probably from a wedding happening, but it was looong after her death when it happened. We built everything out of bricks after that.
Sounds like a gritty plot to a dark live action Scooby Doo series.
@Jumpcut Jimmy if I remember correctly the date was mentioned before it happened but of course that's a possibility, but where is the mystery and scary storyline in that? đ đ
I still can't believe it's not BUTTER
You canât believe itâs not butter? Boi almost EVERYTHING is not butter.
You just have to accept it buddy, it's a lengthy lesson to learn, but its worth it in the end, I wish you luck on your journey.
If you succeed you butter not slip up đ€

I heard this story growing up in Mississippi. Finally you did a story on it. Great job.
I was born && raised in Jackson MS && had cousins that stayed in Yazoo && I remember being 9 or 10 when I stayed the weekend with them && of course you know they shared the story of The Yazoo Witch && took me to go visit her grave site && I promise you being there I had the most uncomfortable uneasy feeling && I still get the chills when I think about it!
I haven't heard this story before. Very interesting and entertaining.
Thanks :)
Once more you surprise me with another bizarre story...I like thatâŁđđâŁThx FLđ€
Glad to hear it!
This channel, the Crime Reel and Brief Case have such great narrating! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the narration.
What ridiculous supernatural beliefs humans can have.

Happy Birthday! I literally just subscribed to your channel & Crime Reel in the last few days & he'd mentioned it! Lol This was a very fascinating video & I really enjoyed it! Thanks! Have a great day!
I'm from MS and have visited the grave. It was interesting to hear the story and be able to see the location for myself. I currently reside in Vicksburg. If you haven't already, you should check into the haunted history of the city.
Bryan, I lived in Yazoo City as a child. I heard the tale many times from some of the older residents. I have been to her grave many times. Fast forward to 1973 when my family moved to Vicksburg. Many times several of us would make the drive to that cemetery. Weird things surround this area. It can get downright creepy. Each year at Halloween I create a haunted cemetery and you guessed it, mine is centered around the with of Yazoo City.
Wow...
A creepy old cat lady with skeletons (grave robbery was common at the time in order to get skeletons for academic study. Some people had no other way of making money.) In her attic...
Sounds like a bunch of superstitious locals causing mass panic among themselves.
Yes, but they didn't rob graves just for the skeletons, which were plentiful, but, rather, for very fresh corpses to sell to schools of medicine for dissection, anatomical study and surgical practice. Also, people who _engage_ in witch hunts are the _real_ danger, and I completely agree that the cause is some mass psychogenic illness.
Happy birthday FL, have a good un
Cheers :)
Thank you again for another entertaining video I spoke last week about the fact that you do a lot of different genres this is important because CZcams is starting to demonetize some of these channels. I don't agree with their decisions but with your format I don't think you have anything to worry about. Keep up the good work. đđŻ
Thanks Mike! Trying to keep the content fresh and different each week and thanks for the heads-up!

Very spooky history. Love it.đ
Lol. A new one for me. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you..
Happy birthday to you! Someone told on you ! Have a great one đCrime Reel sends his best!
A great tale for tourists and outsiders but that's all it is, I know I was born in a similar town that has its own Witch legend and a churchyard with the Witch's grave covered by a heavy stone slab. Both of those poor old women were tormented by superstitious townsfolk who smeared their names even in death.
You make a very good point !
Something tells me you're having a birthday! Happy birthday wishing you lots of fun!!!
Happy birthday, Forgotten Lives
She just seems like she was misunderstood, I wouldâve most definitely been extremely nice to her, I think thatâs what she wanted is a friend or someone to treat her as human
Uhh Hona
A little kindness goes a long way.
@@charlottesometimes6977 Agreed.
Yep! There is no "evil witch" ...just "evil gossip". A poor old misunderstood woman.
U would have tried to pipe the witch đ€Ł
I guess all those cats in her attic were mistreated because she was lonely. And the skeletons up there just misunderstood her?
Thank you FL ! Your impersonation of the crackle witch voice was...... hysterical đđđ€Ł. Don't do that. Lol đ
