A classic example of two artists who have mastered their craft
Montserrat Caballé has said many pop/rock singers have asked her (after this performance) to perform a duet with them and she has always said “No” because she has said she respected Freddie too much and she would never sing with someone else.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I did NOT know that. I do know Freddie said this was a dream come true.
It is hard to believe this has been over 35 years ago. Freddie died just a couple years later. Actually Monserrat passed away in 2017. She outlived Freddie by 29 years.
@@californiagold3857 .....6th of October 2018...details matter💐
She also asked Freddie “how many songs are on a record?” He said,”10”! She told him “Then write me an album.” So, Freddie did! In UNDER A MONTH! ❤ We lost someone incredible in losing these two giants of music 😢 in our own lifetimes 😢❤
@@ThomasTallantI have read in several places that Freddie in his off time used to go to the Opera many times. But? Until he went to hear her? He NEVER considered it before. He’d concluded it would be a dream unfulfilled! 😢❤❤❤❤
You may thing this song is epic because Freddie is on it but the fact that next to him we have Caballé, the most beautiful voice humanity has ever recorded, maybe is a part of the beauty of this song.
Freddie wrote this to perform with her...actually an entire album. Genius!
So glad you liked it!!!!!
The most amazing thing about this is that Freddie wrote this magnificent song.
There's another duet between Freddie and Montserrat called How Can I Go On. Is even more beautiful!
Yes!! ♥️♥️
Omg yes ❤️
Yes! It's my favorite!
Totally agree Leticia: ) there is even a better version, with only Freddie singing it, the link is czcams.com/video/mBD9QbtBU2g/video.html
YES!!! I so hope @BroAction reacts to their collaboration . . . more so than Freddie alone. Please!!!
One of the greatest performances ever recorded!
Your not on your own, everyone is speechless after this. Stunning voices together.
Another duo which also is spectacular is James Brown and Luciano Pavarotti singing "It's A Man's World". I think you"ll love it!!

This song was made for the Barcelona ‘92 olympic games. Freddie was a declared fan of Montserrat Caballe so he was happy to have this opportunity to sing with her.
Yes but unfortunately he can be there, he dies before that
It was recorded and released in 1987. 5 years before Barcelona olympics.
@@badrobot3159 yes, but it was the oficial song on the Olympics five years later.
@@badrobot3159 Barcelona was written & recorded in 1987, specifically for the 1992 Olympics. Oct.1986, Barcelona was selected to host the 92 games. Early 87, Montserrat, a Barcelona native, was asked to do a song for those games. She & Freddie decided to collaborate on it (she then suggested they do a whole album). Due to the deadline to submit songs for consideration, Barcelona was done 1st (released as a single Oct. 87). The album was finished later (released Oct. 88). When the Committee chose Barcelona as the official song, Freddie then told Montserrat he was ill & wouldn’t be alive to perform it at the 92 games. Freddie & Montserrat did perform it 3 times. If you watch their Oct. 88 performance at La Nit, in Barcelona, it was staged for an Olympic event (the arrival of the Olympic flag from Seoul), with the Olympic symbol & “Barcelona 92” projected behind them.
Hey guys. You really want to hear FREDDIE sing Opera ?? Well check out the song EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE. FREDDIE shows off his soprano singing voice. You wont believe its him. Also check out the songs HOW CAN I GO ON and THE GOLDEN BOY from the BARCELONA album that they did together. Thank you for doing this video. Looking forword to watching more QUEEN videos from you. Take care your friend, QUEEN BEE.
It's a jaw dropper!
Also Rachmaninov's Revenge. It blew my mind when I 1st ever heard it 👍
@@nataliebagshaw2773 But not every time you hear it, hmm? 🤔
@@SpaceCattttt sorry what do you mean?
Yes, also Impromptu, arguably the best example available is from Wembley 1986.
@BroAction,
You asked about other collaborations . . . Freddie and Montsy can't really be topped, but there are some other very topnotch/cool/interesting/unlikely collaborations by dissimilar artists, for anyone who might be interested in looking into them - this is only a shortlist -
Country music legend Loretta Lynn with rocker Jack White of The White Stripes, "Portland, Oregon". Fantastic.
Led Zep's Robert Plant with bluegrass angel Alison Krauss, albums "Raising Sand" and "Raise the Roof". "Gone Gone Gone" is a good single to start out with. "Raising Sand" took all five Grammys in the album categories it was nominated for.
Tony Bennett, song-stylist legend, with Lady GaGa, albums "Cheek to Cheek" and "Love for Sale", both are superb.
Total rock legend Tina Turner, no description needed for her, "Cose Della Vita", with Eros Ramazzotti, Italian pop singer, late '90s pop fabulousness. A lightweight tissue-thin song in itself, it's just regular pop, however great sound and a charismatic pairing. I wouldn't put this one in The Realm of Greatness but, you can't go wrong with Ms. Turner. She was not unlike Freddie Mercury in showmanship and her ability to elevate anything she was doing.
"Unchained", the album from Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Flea, and Fleetwood Mac. The whole album is great but a fine single to start with from this is "The Running Kind".
Also Cash, from 1969, with Bob Dylan: "Girl From the North Country". Wonderful.
Clearly the difference between a vocalist and a singer in a rock band is on display here. Freddie was a genius full of life and talent. RIP - heaven has one great band and an awesome choir too. ❤️🎼🎶🤘😎🔥
Freddie said in an interview on Spanish TV that he loved Montserrat, as a fan.
Montsy heard this, but had not really heard of Freddie so checked out some Queen and she herself quickly became a fan of Freddie (well, duh!) and, I believe, she had her people call his people....
In a restaurant in Spain, a (Spanish) waiter looks up and see the legend that is Montserrat Caballé, and gets a shock... He looks across, sees the legend that is Freddie Mercury and... Faints.
Montserrat thought she was just going to do a single song as a simple collaboration with another gifted musician... what actually happened was that she fell in love with Freddie (not in that way...) and she suggested an album!
A lifelong friendship was born and an absolutely beautiful album came of it.
You guys need to check out (not only other Barcelona album tracks) a track called Exercises In Free Love which is Freddie doing an 'impression' of Montserrat!
The track became a song on the album with Montsy writing lyrics and taking her role while giving Freddie a baritone.
The best singers of the world...
Freddie will never die in the hearts of true fans.
Never Never my King never die
Is true.Freddie Forever.
🙄
Yeah ok
Outstanding from 2 special friends. Freddies career highlight. He was sick then and I'm so so happy he got to do this with the beautiful Montserrat. RIP to both these beautiful performers
Can you imagine the gig they're having up there? x
@@rde4017 absolutely! They seem to have been very good friends
@@eviekelpie1 they were very very fond of one another, but I had to laugh when Freddie, after working with her for a long time on that album, said he really enjoyed working with a diva (not sure if that's the word he used but something like that) but he's glad to get back to Queen 😆
It is an amazing story, Freddy once saw Montserrat in an Opera and was totally captivated by her voice, he wanted to work with her but was afraid the best female opera singer in the world would consider him as not a serious singer as he sang Rock music, when he finally got the courage to approach her, she was concerned what the best rock singer in the world would want with an 'old fat opera singer' to paraphrase her words, in the end he convinced her he was indeed interested in working with her and they produced a magical album together, it is well worth checking out other songs from the album.
👏👏👏👏 Thank you for telling the story behind this.... I was going to, but my comment would've been ridiculously long!!😂🤣 PERFECT summation!! 😎❤
I left a link in my comment for the guys to an interview with Freddie and Montserrat. You can see the adoration she has for Freddie through the entire interview if your interested.... it's adorable!! 🤗 Great comment! Peace and light....
@@tinagilbert8902 you've made my day, I've never had anyone praise me for being succinct before, they usually complain I'm too wordy. But it is s great story and I will check out the link as I've not seen the interview, thanks
BRAVO
RIP both of them 🙏
Two beautiful voices, both sorely missed.
He wrote about the first time he met her…his idol. And then they recorded an album together. Just wonderful.
Fantastic reaction. Your expressions were 👍
To hear Freddie's opera voice, you need to listen to 'Exercises In Free Love'
Yes!!!
Exercises in free love - you'll be shocked when you hear Freddie"s voice. It was his impersonation of Montserrat"s vocal style
Tears... everytime... I love Freddie
Amazing duo! They did a whole album 'Barcelona' together!
Freddie had the bathroom at the studio redecorated just for her. They truly loved one another
Freddie was a big opera fan, as evidenced by the the influence of opera in his music. His favorite singer was Montserrat Caballe. His funeral ceremony ended with Mercury's favorite aria, 'D'amour sull 'ali Rose' composed by Verdi and sung by Montserrat Caballe, who joined Mercury in a duet on his 1980 solo album 'Barcelona.'
It was in 1987 actually for the 92' Barcelona Olympics. Freddie already had AIDS and and before they took place. I could be wrong but I think this was his last live show.
@@antonkider7360 This performance wasn't live. Freddie's last live performance was in 1988 at the Dominion theater in London for the 'Time' musical
@@dixienormous2440 Thanks for the info mate.
How Can I Go On - is another duet of theirs that I love and sometimes play on repeat while I'm driving. It's less operatic, but gorgeous. These two were at the top of their professions. Stunning.
YESSSS
When Andrea Bocelli was Asked if Freddie Mercury did indeed help pave the way for his duet with Sarah Brightman, Bocelli said: “Certainly, this duet by Mercury and Caballé held significant importance with regards to the evolution of classical music into the mainstream during those years.
“A giant of rock music with an impressive vocal talent, as well as Queen and their immeasurable creativity, whose inspiration draws so much from melodrama."
Belated Happy Heavenly 75th Birthday Freddie Mercury👑💛.
Thanks Guys for Choosing this song.
I never read that quote - thank you for bringing it here.
Try Streisand & Barry Gibb, 'What Kind of Fool'
Yesterday a great musician, performer, generally a good person had a birthday. Let him live forever on the screens, in the ears of the listener and in the hearts of the fans. Thank you "QUEEN" for their masterpieces. Except for thanksgiving, I can't give anything.
🍻🥂 Cheers!!
This song is absolutely incredible. I love this so much! Anyone who doesn’t like this cannot like music 👌👌👌👏👏👏
The fact that Freddie and Mike Moran could compose an entire album for this collaboration (with an a little help from Tim Rice) is stunning all by itself. But even more amazing is that Freddie remained the Rock God and "Montsie" remained the Opera Diva in every song. Their connection is off the charts both personally and professionally.
100% agree especially it was only meant to be 1 song but she met him and said how many songs are in a album he told her and they ended up doing a whole album brilliant 😊😊👍👍
Ps Freddie in exercise in free love is just fantastic 💖
@@nataliebagshaw2773 I am obsessed with Exercises in Free Love! And reaction videos to it. Was there anything this man couldn't do?
Me too and from what I heard that was his sample to send to her. I'm with you on that there was nothing he couldn't do. Even his Mr. Bad guy album has got a song on what's got a Reggie beat which I love. He could turn his hand to anything and it worked didn't it ❤️
@@nataliebagshaw2773 yes, “Exercises in Free Love” was a guide vocal he gave to her - it was Freddie singing *her* part on a song he was writing, to give her an idea of what he wanted her to do - she put words to it, and the song became their duet Ensueño, with Freddie singing in his natural baritone at Monserrat’s request.
Freddie singing in spanish is truly epic 👏👏
totally agree!
It was always Freddie's dream to bring opera to the masses. Who knew it would be 30 years after he passed. Love this. RIP Freddie and Monsterrat
There’s NOTHING that Freddie couldn’t sing! It’s 30 years later after his passing and he is still bringing amazement to the generations of people who weren’t even born in his time! That will never end because Queen was so talented musical driven… they are truly legendary!!
STILL singing in Heaven I’m quite sure!❤
Freddie Mercury was the greatest talent ever. The Golden Boy is another good one from the Barcelona album. Freddie was The Golden Boy.
I loved this video, Freddie will always be a legend, Love you guys, you are the best 💗✨
Finally a reaction from a guy who actually appreciates Montse❤
Beautiful....their voices worked so well together and they became great friends. It has to be The Golden Boy next please....its amazing!!
Pure legend ❤
The genius of Freddie Mercury. His musical talent knew no boundaries. Montserrat and Freddie were magical together. Check out the other songs from the Barcelona Album. I don't think you'll find anything as stunning as Freddie and Montserrat. Freddie wrote an amazing album of songs to sing with Montserrat. He did have help from Tim Rice and of course Mike Moran. Great reaction. Thank you 💙💙💙💜💜💜🌹🌹🌹🌹
The album opener. That album has a couple of treasures in store for you. The Golden Boy is a gem with different faces to it. But also The Fallen Priest, Guide Me Home, Ensueño or La Japonaise....This really is thrilling! They had a very special friendship, that did not last long unfortunately... 😢
I always cry thru GUIDE ME HOME 😭😭
Amazing performance, I always loved this song.
I can only imagine how hard it was for him to stand still for that and hold back a little bit
You should really listen to "There Must Be More To Life Than This", "Time Waits for No One" and "In My Defence" by Freddie, simply beautiful
LA CABALLE..and Freddie MERCURY....THIS IS THE BEST IN MUSIC..
THE TWO WONDERFUL VOICES ..He die just before the Barcelone game..
And she die , juste after the game.. R I P🌹🥀🌺🌷🪻⚘️🌷🌼🌻 BOTH OF YOU..THANK YOU FOR YOUR TALENTS..
Actually this is the kind of music Freddie loved!
Phenomenal freddie mercury
Can you imagine anyone being more theatrical than wonderful Freddie?
In exercises of free love Freddie actually sings the opera part all by himself, you should definitely react to it :-).
Yes! Finaly guys, I love this song so much! Still a lot of great songs to cover! Please also take a look at ‘A kind of Magic - Liar - My Melancholy blues - Breakthru - Headlong. And of you love to hear a guitar singing :) listen to Bijou! Freddie, you will be forever the greatest!
Yes, Bijou!!
Pls add Let us cling together ( Teo Torriate)
Clicked on this so fast!! Great reaction and song!! Please watch them perform 'the golden boy'!!
I couldn’t wait for you to do this, and you didn’t disappoint. The look in your faces! Epic performance, great reaction!
He's not only a performer he wrote and composed the songs and many people don't know but he had a classic formation of piano and various instruments.. He's a genius he performed, sang, composed and played. Bohemian rhapsody is a great example
I weep like a baby every time I hear this song.
It's the only Opera duet I love.
He was the brightest star in the universe and then went supernova for eternity. Happy Birthday and RIP, He was the worlds greatest wonders.
You said it right "This was so epic. This stuff is so rare".
Magical 👏👏👏👏🔥🔥
Freddie Mercury and montserrat caballe -how can i go on...that show how powerful Freddie voice is
Hi boys, you need to listen to Freddie singing Exercises in free love , it will blow your mind its perfection its unbelievable that this comes from his voice ITS A MUST LISTEN
Freddie was in admiration of Montserrat, he’d always say “she is music”. Phoebe said that each time they were due to meet, Freddie was nervous as if it was the first time they met. It shows the great amount of respect he had.Peter Freestone: "He was on cloud nine. Freddie was up in the sky. He didn't need a plane to go home on, he was so happy. From what I know of Freddie, one of the biggest, greatest moments in his life, was when Montserrat had come over to London and put down her vocal track for Barcelona. After they'd done it, on the way home from the studio, I remember Freddie turning to me and saying "That's it! I've done it! I've got HER voice on my music!"
So wonderful, glad you enjoyed it. Happy Birthday Freddie!
Theme of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
No hay palabras para describir la emoción que produce escuchar a Freddy y Montserrat. Dos monstruos en sus estilos y juntos haber creado está belleza. ❤️❤️❤️
You have to listen the whole album
Thank you my darlings
And Happy Birthday to our idol
♥️♥️♥️
....and their joy!
The entire album of Barcelona is fantastic. Listen to The Golden Boy and How Can I Go on. Just fantastic. Love your reactions boys!
Love your emotional reaction. Nothing comes even close to Freddie. Nothing.
Really a beautiful song and they sound perfect together.
When Freddy told his record company he wanted to do a opera song they were not interested
he had to put a lot of his own money into it
2 legends RIP
Great reaction and I love I MELTED LIKE A CANDLE 👍
She honored him in his last days to be worth it to be in the circle of the great ones
Queen let me in your heart again reaction
Number one freddie mercury
Keep in mind that Freddie also wrote the song; heck, he wrote an emtire album (on which my next favourite song is La Japponnaise)!
Freddie Mercury the King of the Queen ! 🎧❤🇧🇷🎵🎤👑
Saddest part of this is when she ask him why he wanted to record so early... He responded that he didn't have much time left. She didn't know he was sick
❤️❤️❤️ Freddie can do anything!! Monserrat- absolutely beautiful 🥰
We told you mind blown💛 this was performed at 92 Olympics with a hologram of Freddie.
This performance of these 2 brilliant artists ALWAYS bring tears to my eyes! Great reaction!! 👏👏👏👏
Guys! Freddie not only performed this with Monserrat but also wrote this masterpiece together with Mike Moran.
I recommend you to listen a couple of other pieces from the album named Barcelona.
For example - How I can get on. or The Golden Boy.
Also you did not pay attention that the orchestra conductor of the performance was Brian May)))
hear the rest of the album. It is more pop than opera, and very beautyfull. greetings from denmark
Now they are both in heaven singing together. Love your reaction.
Wow!! It' s amazing, wonderful, beautiful!! Freddie was a great singer and a Nice showman ! Montserrat Caballé was a spanish soprano, she was born in Barcelona.
Greetings from Buenos Aires , Argentina, You have a very good Channel .🙋🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
You have to listen to 'Golden Boy'! Another great performance of them!
Greetings from Germany.
Beautiful and amazing talented couple listen the golden boy and excercise in free love👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
Freddie has classical training. Amazing
Queen is my favorite band so watching both of you guys discover them has been ...hhmm.. adorable...barcolna is so awesome but you have to see how can I go on.. can't wait to see your reaction to it
Maravilhos...❤❤❤❤❤🇧🇷
Simmmm 🇧🇷
first opera cross over so pleased they had the chance to do this
between deciding to record and actually recording this he found out he had AIDS
she was upset when she saw him again that he wouldn't let her kiss him or share his drink
so he told her he had AIDS
at the time people were scared they could get AIDS by holding hands, kissing
so it doesn't seem anything important here that they hold hands and he kisses her hand but it was a big deal
her support must have meant a great deal to him
the first time she went to his house after covent Garden before recording they spend all nigh singing everything and anything and she said I looked at him and knew he had conquered me
she has had a fantastic career but enjoyed singing with him saying he taught her to really enjoy the music like she hadn't done before
they had areal love and respect for each other
she wanted this song to be for the olympics and it had been accepted
to perform it with him
and he had to tell her bluntly he wouldnt be here
she knew but didn't really accept it
it must have been very difficult for him to have to say this to her
they did an album
with mike Moran who he met when he recorded Time and in my defence for Dave Clarke
Isso é o que chamo de perfeição. O álbum todo Barcelona é magnifico.
First let me say....I LOVE Freddie Mercury. His voice ...I mean, he's the only artist I do NOT try to sing along with because He is just so amazing to listen too.
Having said that.... This song ...I always find myself just in complete and total awe of her voice....And maybe he was too? it's such a beautiful song and just wow ya know!
Freddie said outside of Queen, he cherished (or some such term) his collaboration with Montserrat more than anything he did. Her singing with him was his dream come true. They both loved working and doing this music. She is interviewed saying it was her best, most enjoyable year (or some such words.). Thanks for the reaction. I cherish your words/sentiments.
Freddie ❤ Montserrat ❤ first heard this when I was 6 or 7 and love it as much today as I did then, you need to react to exercises in free love, guide me home/how can I go on?, ensueno, the fallen priest, the golden boy and la japonaise ❤
Absolute perfection.
Finally a react to Queen/ Freddie Mercury again :)
This was the theme tune for the 1992 Olympic Ganes in Barcelona
Great reaction guys! ;) It's amazing song, it was official song for Summet Olympics in Barcelona 1992. Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé recorded more songs together, for full album "Barcelona" which was release in 1988. Can you react song "Ensueño" from this album? It's only one song where Freddie sang with his natural voice, baritone, in other songs in his career he always sang higher than his natural voice, as tenor voice. Freddie had two songs with the same melodic line, "Ensueño" and "Exercises In Free Love", that second song was first and it's without lyrics, only vocal improvisation and really high notes, "Ensueño" is great contrast, because Freddie in this song sang very low. I recommend for you guys these two songs as great example of Freddie's vocal skills. ;)
Can I recommend one japanese rock/metal band? It's my favourite band, they called The Gazette. If you can, please react their song "Dim Scene" live version from 2014 with english subs, because lyrics in their music are very important. This is one of my favourite songs by them and this performance is amazing. Or please react song "Baretta" also live version from 2014 with english lyrics, originally title is in japanese, but if you type it in latin alphabet "the gazette baretta live eng" on CZcams as first on list will be this with title in japanese, but this is it. Please, I love this band so much and I really want to share it with you and see your reaction. :)
Great reaction. Please more Freddie and Montserrat "The golden boy" 👏🏻
Wow....freddie mercury 😏😏😏😏😏 number one
Pure perfection ... There are no words to describe this. I'm so glad you put this on. Pure madness from the emotions that this song creates in a man. Thanks guys. And now a little about the song. Barcelona" is a single released by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. A part of their collaborative album Barcelona, it also appeared on Queen's Greatest Hits III. The song reflects Mercury's love of opera with his high notes and Caballé's operatic vocals, backed by a full orchestra. Originally released in 1987, it was one of the biggest hits of Mercury's solo career, reaching number eight in the UK Singles Chart. After Mercury's death in 1991, it was featured at the 1992 Summer Olympics, after which the track climbed even higher, peaking at number two in the UK, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
You hadn't listen to the whole Barcelona album yet or you'll be mind blown with Freddie's vocal in many songs from the album. Also, I would be glad to see more Queen reaction, especially if you want a burst of stereo play in your ear with The Millionaire Waltz and the epic Prophet's Song.
This song was used to open the Olympic games in Barcelona!
What would he have done if he had lived we will never know so very sad RIP to both of them
Guys great reaction! Guys Exercises in free love by Freddie is beautiful.🕊🕊🕊🕊🌹🌹🌹
Do please more queen or Freddie. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Try the Prophet's song that is another epic.❤💗
