    One of the most memorable pieces of the 90s car scene is none other than Honda's VTEC Systems. When Honda developed their NCE program in 1984; it would eventually birth the Variable Valve Timing system that introduced additional power, fuel economy, and one hell of an exhaust note to anyone with a Honda badge. So What Happened? Where did this fantastic piece of automotive culture go? Sit down with Alex as he goes over What Happened to VTEC!

      @@infadelakainf it is on d and b series. The cam has two profiles. One low cam lobe profile for rpm lower than approximately 5,500 rpm and a high lobe profile for when VTEC activates above 5,500 rpm. With k series oil pressure is used to lock the lower profile with the higher profile so that only the high lobe profile is what's activating the valves. • @JohnDoe-mx1sq
    @JohnDoe-mx1sq Pƙed 2 lety +2

    He didn't really mention this but the dual lobes in a lift based VTEC system aren't just for fuel economy and power. A smaller cam profile will have an earlier torque peak, larger profile a later torque peak. VTEC allows you to have both. So, even though you get better mpg with the smaller cam it also makes it idle better, easier to drive, and both sets of lobes work together to give you a better torque curve.
    I'm not sure about the 3-4 valve i systems. I would imagine only having 3 valves at the same lift would be only for economy.
