    Great video and totally agree the importance of training for the training. Often overlooked, but as you noted, that’s the best way to maximize the marathon training! Love running in Central Park!!

    As someone who used to live in Calgary, and over 50...would love to follow you on Strava if you do that. Just really love the inspiration of seeing excellence. Thank you for the videos.

    Awesome! Love the variety of your training. I think it’s really vital to change things up to get those different energy systems adapted. Keep it up! 👍💪💪💪

    Recently discovered your channel. As a masters runner I’m enjoying your content. It’s inspiring me to believe 2:30 is still achievable at 46. Thanks for sharing and good luck.

      I do genuinely think fast times are still possible. We have to be wiser at our age, and way more patient. But I refuse to believe we can’t do it.
      Are you aiming for a similar goal?

      @@global-runner It’s a lofty ambition. PB is 2:34 from 2 years ago but those 4 minutes seem like an impossible dream. Getting harder to reach a start line fit and fresh!

      I recognize all those sentiments!! I wish I had the confidence to run without a watch. I sometimes think the 2:30 “barrier” is more of a mental thing. Why are those minutes so much harder??

    Looking strong! Always inspiring to see you run those speeds at my age and being able to copy some stuff. The one minute reps and Yasso are looking really fun to do, I'll give them a try too.

      Thank you! Is there anything as fun as speed sessions in the summer? Gotta build up slowly but they make you feel like a runner!!!

    I like the idea of scheduling 14 weeks for a 12 week plan, there is always something that comes up (as a 50+ runner)......but what will you do if all goes to plan, and you have an extra 2 weeks at the end of the plan?

    • @global-runner
      @global-runner  Před měsícem

      That’s a great question!!! If I’m half way through and I’m ahead of schedule then I’ll take a week and work on some weaknesses. Maybe I need more speed, maybe I need more miles. And then if I still have an extra week with 4 weeks to go, I’ll do the same again. I use them as bonus weeks to work on what I feel I’m missing out on.
      Great question though.

    Great session! Did you do all those workouts same week?

    • @global-runner
      @global-runner  Před měsícem +3

      Thank you! No, they were over a period of about 2 weeks. The Central Park ones were 2 days apart but otherwise there was a decent amount of rest between each of them.

    Is very interesting your double treshold. I'm a marathoner with a similar level 2:30 more o less. Never train 2 sessions on the same day but is interesting one session of fast changes and another one of track repetitions in the afternoon. Very interesting.

    • @global-runner
      @global-runner  Před měsícem +1

      It’s definitely not for everyone! But I actually find it gives me more rest. If I do one session every two days then that’s 3 sessions over 5 days with about 48 hours of rest between each session. If I do double thresholds then I can do 3 sessions over 4 days with 60 (or more) hours of rest between session 2 and session 3…

    So how are these sessions going compared to your 2.38 prep sessions? If you are doing new sessions how are you gauging you will be 9 mins quicker in your next marathon?

    • @global-runner
      @global-runner  Před měsícem

      Good question. I had a very different build up to the 2:38. I ran Phoenix and messed it up so ran Carmel 8 weeks later. So it’s a very different build. The aim at the moment is to get some speed (so that 5:42/mile is not a shock!)

    I presume you are preparing for the NYC Marathon. How do you get a start number as a foreigner?

    • @global-runner
      @global-runner  Před měsícem

      I’m not. I was going to do Sydney in mid-September but it sold out. I am looking at alternatives and Montreal is high on the list at the moment…
