Highlights from the Olympic Stadium in London as France's Renaud Lavillenie wins Pole Vault Gold and breaks the Olympic record in the process on 10 August 2012.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I love the face of his rivals after he cleared 5m97, it just tells the whole story of that evening!
I'll always remember that 5.97 jump, I yelled "WOOOOH!!!" for something like twenty seconds I was so stunned. One of the most beautiful pole vault finals in the olympics for sure!
watching this is pure amazement. this is the height of athletics
PUNCITY
namn LITERALLY
J'adore Richard Lavillenie c'est mon préféré
frenchman RENAUD LAVILLENIE best polevault jumper of this planet ! world highest record !!! 20 ft 2 !!! its the highestman !
he still is and will be my favorite pole vaulter
Renaud Lavillenie already made history when he became Olympic champion but he definitely became a legend today by beating Bubka's indoor record...
Who would have guessed he'd break it, and that fast besides?
cuninou I
His name is Renaud , pls get that right
I have a tiny heart attack every time they let go of the pole because I'm afraid it might hit their crowned jewels
It’s funny you say that because it had happened before😂. Look up Zach McGregor getting stitches in his “crowned jewel”

Better get Renaud's name right since he is now the best polt vault athlete in history :)
redwithblackstripes in
Sergey Bubka... well yeah, he's probably still greater, but Renaud already holds the absolute highest performance. But it's probably the outdoor world record that counts the most

je suis aussi française et j'adore Renaud aussi ;) espérons qu'il gagne aux championnats du monde en août :)
0:58 that is epic
Never heard of this Richard Lavillenie before (or even after), but he for sure is a tough guy.

i don't see why brad walker would come in at 5.65 when his personal best is so much higher
cause he hasn't jumped to close to his personal best in quite a while.
hard to come totally back from getting a spine fusion
Nick Homan that makes much more sense, haha thanks!
MÉMORABLE !
Look at 1:36 in the back you can see the leaders of the 4x400m final on the last leg! That is the usa and the Bahamas. haha!
it's not bull in the least, i hope you kno that by passing up to another height without clearing the previous one you get less attempts at the height than someone who did clear the previous height, by doing so you are putting yourself at a major disadvantage because you're putting more pressure on yourself to clear a higher height, the higher the bar goes the harder it is to clear and the less likely chance of a "lucky jump" happening, lucky jumps don't happen very often at all at these heights
plis ever have
Yes Gibson but you can start at any height you want
Because that was was at the World Championships, not the olympics
My track team always loses in pole vault ☹️
and compare this final to rio's....
Bravo Richard 🤔
clutch
He said Lasuanne Lavillenie (Le-shawn) ... I think it's a french version of Renaud....
Did he say Richard Lavillenie ??? :O
twice!
Yes but his name is Renaud, not Richard :p
Uhhh, you have to clear a certain height before they raise the bar higher...
priceless
Fun
How dows 1 do dis
Master punctuation, and then come back and criticize people.
Yes but the thickness varies with weight
how does he have the olympic record if sergey bubka jumped 20.2 feet and has the world record?
Vim do futuro pra falar que o recorde olímpico não é mais dele e é do Brasil....#ThiagoBraz
Fckuk you Brazil.
Go back to football (7-1)
I like very much Braz, a future star of pole vault. A huge achievement to surpass Lavillenie
I was also very disappointed of the brasilian ugly attitude with Lavillenie during the competition and medal ceremony, it put a shadow on Braz title. Sad :/
DakonBlackblade2 34 lines of paranoid lies, victimisation and bullshits. Another proof that truth always hurts and make you say very stupid things. Well done.
zisssssou Or 34 lines of truth and you are embarking on the same boat of complaining and making excuses of Lavilenie. Well done.
And victimization is what you and the very sore looser of this event are doing.
Soccer Mania GamePlay what are you saying
I probably would've done the same thing if I was Brad Walker.
I've noticed in athletics that many athletes wear earrings, much more so than other sports. Am I the only one that has noticed this? haha
No
Caution! Spoiler alert! Do not read the description!
My last name is Renaud
just cannot understand why someone can raise the bar when he cannot pass over the one before this is bull what needs to be done is one at a time this is the only way to resolve a champion, this includes high jump. a champion is someone who can do and excel at the step taken one at a time from 1feet to 2feet and not 1feet to 3feet cos anytime there is this law in any scenerio is lucky jump can always happen to anyone to risk a higher level is not the factor it is to excel every inch of the way
Dmitryyyyyyy😂
Richard???
like si tu le fuiste a france
Rudher is the best
Lukasz Michalski?!
And I’m just here think
Such bendy sticks
Otto is a hottie!
RENAUD not richard
MEDIOCRE
Golgot45 t c
he's cute :')
Lavillenie only got silver in Rio with 5.98, De Silva got gold with OR at 6.03.
WR is for Lavillenie, with 6.19
It's 6.16 actualy, and its indoor, and it is not during competition (as in not while someone is actively disputing medals and whatnot against him). There's a reason the OR is 6.03 and not nearly as high as the WR, when you are compeating and you have to jump a certain mark or you loose its much harder than it is to jump 6.16 when you are doing so just to set marks.
Commentator : Richard Lavillenie lol don't like Renault
Forever at the top, alongside Larry Jordan and Jack Woods.

I just don't understand, why they are so lazy to correct these mistakes!
