The USA's Jennifer Suhr wins the women's pole vault gold medal in the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games (7 August).
Following Suhr in the event were Yarisley Silva (Cuba) winning silver and Elena Isinbaeva (Russian Fed.) with bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I like to see Isinbaeva being soo humble in the interview even though she got third, and everyone knew she could do waaay better. That's a real legend!

I just watched Jenn Suhr clear a height of 5.03 meters and break her own indoor world record!! Right at the SUNY Brockport invitational, even got a pic with her after!! Such an amazing athlete!

Wow. My second cousin started vaulting when I was born. And she gave me a little of her talent. I started vaulting this year 2019 and I can already vault 9 feet! I hope to meet her one day. It’s sad that we’re not close and I never knew who she really was and she doesn’t even know me. But that one day will be amazing ❤️

While I must admit that I am a big Yelena fan and really wanted her to win her third straight gold in London. I must give Jenn her kudos for making better use of the difficult conditions that fateful night of August 6th 2012. That said however, I reckon that hadn't Yelena gotten injured prior to London which temporarily interrupted her Olympic preparations, the Russian would have won. Hopefully for the World's in Moscow this summer, Yelena can get revenge. With a new World Record too.
