  • @fortunebrd10

    The response was so "over the top" not just because we (US and South Korea) needed to respond to provocation, but also because of HOW the two Americans (Captain Arthur Bonifas and First Lieutenant Mark Barrett) were killed. It's definitely not safe for children, but look up the 'Korean Axe Murder Incident" for additional details. Americans don't like losing a service member at all, but we REALLY don't like losing one to public torture.

    There's lots of videos of North Koreans who've escaped explaining conditions in NK... it's heartbreaking. Also, the father of the current leader actually kidnapped a South Korean movie director and his actress wife and held them in NK and forced them to make movies for him until they both were able to escape years later. It's a CRAZY story!

    • @SighNaps
      @SighNaps Před 2 měsíci

      To add another level of complexity to your reference, the name of the kidnapped director was Shin Sang-ok. He was considered to be the golden boy of South Korean cinema at the time. He was kidnapped and forced to create films for Kim Jong-il who was a well documented film enthusiast. In childhood Kim wanted to be a director and he personally produced and directed several films throughout his tenure as the leader of the DPRK. The strangest detail to this story is that many of the films that Shin Sang-ok was forced to make starred a man named James Dresnok. Dresnok was an unremarkable ex American soldier who defected from South Korea to the North to avoid disciplinary action and the conditions of his impending divorce upon being sent back stateside. To sum up, A kidnapped South Korean director and his estranged ex wife were forced to create films starring an ex American soldier for the dictator of communist North Korea. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

    Yes, that is a Kentucky Long Rifle likely in the .69 caliber from around the time of the 1700's, it is a smooth bore rifle, and does use regular black powder, and a round ball for ammo, and is a flint lock style firearm, it loads from the muzzle, has no breech, they were not very accurate, about 35 to 50 yards/meters was the best that can be expected, they fouled after just a few shots, maybe as many as 10 shots, and takes about 30 to 45 seconds to reload, but in 1777, the gunsmiths began making a smaller bore rifle and installing what they called "SOOT GROOVES" which was a set of spiral cuts inside the barrels to catch and collect unburned gunpowder from each shot, these were typically of the .49 or .56 caliber, and the barrels were made from a length of octagon shaped iron rod, and were usually thicker than the non grooved predecessor, now the INTENDED purpose for these grooves were to allow for a minimum of 100 shots to be able to be fired before the rifle would need to be cleaned, but what actually happened, is that it was discovered that these rifles were a LOT more accurate and effective out to 200 yards/meters, although at first it was believed that it was the smaller, lighter balls that accounted for the dramatic increase in performance, it took a couple of years before they realized that it was the grooves, not the size of the ball that made it so much more effective,

    They didn't bring that response for the tree, they did it because two Americans were murdered in cold blood and we do NOT take that lightly.

    Yes, there are American troops in South Korea. That's why South Korea still exists. Our presence and the guarantee that an invasion would result in a US response of full military assistance, including troops is why North Korea has never dared to try and continue the war.
    If we'd done the same in Vietnam after that armistice (what we did do was pull all US combat troops out and then Congress passed an agreement that forbid us from ever returning) South Vietnam would still exist.
    As bad as the world seems, without the US around it would be a lot worse. People don't like to acknowledge that but it's a fact nonetheless.

    Every American guard in the dmz has to be 6 foot and Every south Korean has to be 5 foot 9 inches. I don't think that's true. But I'm only 5 10 and when I asked to go that's what I was told to shut me up I think lol

    This all happened because 2 American soldiers were killed over a tree. "So the north koreans think they can kill 2 of our soldiers over a stupid tree? Let's make absolutely sure they know just how badly they screwed up & what's going to happen to them if they ever try this crap again." It's also about keeping South Korea & any future foreign & American soldiers stationed there safe.

    I'm either becoming desensitized to his language, or he has started to tone it down a lot in his latest videos. The 11th airborne video may have some, but I don't remember any in his Edward O'Hare or Chick-fil-a videos.....the 11th Airborne one did have some adult oriented jokes though. All three are really good
