  • I got the Tamiya Mad bull and we will get it built and chat about it and why I wanted it. I have looked a few time in the last couple years but ‪@FastFreddyRC‬ got on on his channel / @fastfreddyrc and it got me searching again. Shortly after the kits arrived at Amain and there is a link below to them. Check out ‪@rc-dom-uk‬ over on his channel / @rc-dom-uk as his paint job inspired mine as well, it looks really awesome in person!!
    You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

      LOL! I got mine delivered about a week ago and even though I have other stuff I should be doing out there I could not help myself from digging into it!! When you paint the body wipe it down with rubbing alcohol or wash it with dawn as I got some fish eye in my first coat of paint. Normally I don't prep the hardbodies much but this one seemed to have a god amount of mold release on it!

      Thanks you! We call this a "close enough to box art" paint job! While I do usually go with the suggested paint colors as they usually look great with them when I saw Dom's Mad Bull with a similar paint job I really fell in love with that look! The steering fix I found from either Mark Bryon RC or from Pete Wylie RC and I just changed it up t make it tighter and less likely to loosen up after some run time. I love being able to share stuff on here to help others and love all the great feedback and support! The RC community is just wonderful!

      I cannot take full credit for that idea. I cannot remember if it was a tip I got from Mark Bryan RC or from Pete Wylie RC but one of the two sowed it on their channel a couple years a go now. I know what you mean on the mags back in the 80’s I always drooled on cars featured on those mags especially the tower hobbies mags. Funny thing I also loved real cars and drooled over exotics, muscle cars and Japanese sports cars in the 90’s. And now, it’s more easy to acquire an RC compared to real cars that I love. At least I was able to own a 67’ Mustang of which I sold back in 97’ and was able to purchase a 94’ RX7 back in 01’ of which I still own and now in a process of acquiring a 95’ Supra in the near future.😀. Neat looking car! I honestly never even heard of the Mad Bull until I saw it on your channel. I started RC modeling in the early 80s and had a Rough Rider, Frog and RC10 (I still have the RC10). I later bought a Tamiya Blazing Blazer (boy do I wish I still had that car). But after that, I had a big gap in my hobby and only started again in the last five years or so. I really like your idea of taking the paper off the center of the sticker in order to place them, I will have to try it. Normally, I get a little dish of water with a drop of dish soap, then I wet down the area that I am going to place the sticker. This lets me put it on and take it off once or twice to get it perfectly in position. Then, I just use a paper towel to push the water and the air bubbles out from under the sticker. This lets me do pretty good. (Unfortunately, I am my own worst critic and always look at the imperfections and wish I had done a little better)

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Steven! I think the Mad Bull is overlooked by a lot of folks as it is in an area all of its own and is a bit of an oddball (but I guess there are a fair amount from Tamiya like that!). It have run it and have to say I love it. It drives super well box stock and I do not think I am changing anything about it!
      I have used the soapy water method on the really tricky ones in the past. It works great but can be fiddly too getting them to stay stuck in places until it can dry completely! I understand as well about being your own worst critic, I do it all the time myself. I am learning to get over minor imperfections as if I can't tell from a few feet away then it is good enough! I am the only one that sees them any closer than that!! I get it though, we want to make them perfect and I have found the "prefect" ones get a scratch in them right away so Slightly less than perfect seems to have a better track record of not getting damaged for some reason!! LOL

    Addam, another radical video! I think that rig is super cool! I always think it is funny how things that may cause some trouble to most people during specific steps in the build, you do with such ease and you explain it so nonchalantly. 🤣 Meanwhile I am just shaking my head thinking, "If only I were as talented and crafty as Addam, I would do so much better with my builds.
    In fact, I still have the CR 01Toyota Land Cruiser 40 and the Monster Beetle brand new in the box because I am stressing out about actually getting the nerve to tackle the builds. I know it isn't a super advanced build, but I am not so skillful like you are.
    Anyway, keep those videos coming and be happy be healthy be safe. 😀

    • @AddamsPlayground

      Well thank you so much for that! Don't worry, there are times I am over here fussing and cussing at a car because something is not right and eventually I find out I goofed up something and have to fix it! I try and point those things out in the wrap ups as I can explain it better once I figured it out than during the build where I am confused and frustrated! It happens to all of us! Sometime you have to just take it in chunks and build a little bit today and some more later until it gets built. I have it easy I can lay everything out on the bench and leave it at any time and come back days later and not have to worry about parts and pieces disappearing from kids or pets! For years I built on the kitchen table and had to pack things up all the time to finish later. I used a plastic ice cube tray for the hardware and jut put everything back in the box and would have to unpack it a start over again later. Just take you time and if frustration sets in just pack it up and come back with fresh eyes and a better frame of mind later and it usually pops right out where something is not right and then things go on smoothly from there! If you ever get stuck or lost feel free to send me an email with questions and pics and I can try and help you out!

    I grew up in Alaska so we were pretty isolated from the rest of the world. Fortunately we had two hobby shops in our city. But I pretty much lived vicariously through the RC Car Action Mags. I dreamed of what I would get from the annual buyers guide and the thick tower hobbies catalog.

    Greetings from Switzerland, loving all your videos and feel your passion for the hobby. I have never built a Tamiya model and when I see those Phillips head screws they use I kind of hesitate to buy one. Difficult question I know but if there is a particularly great (must have) one from a build point of view, what would your pick be ??? Thanks, John

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Před rokem +1

      Hi John and thank you for.the kind words! So if you are interested in building one the first thing you need is a JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) screw driver. You can assemble them with a Phillips driver but you will have issues with slippage. JIS fits them perfectly. I think for a first kit build I usually recommend the Neo Fighter as it is the best bang for the buck and it is not a difficult kit to build. Very straight forward and has oil filled shocks and an upgraded torque tuned motor included for a great price. For a must have kit from Tamiya... That is hard but I think I may have to say the Lunch Box!! It is just a fun truck that always brings an instant smile to your face the second you hit the gas!! It too is not a difficult build and probably works the best bone stock. I love them all so it is hard to narrow them down!! Take care and thanks for checking in!!

    Should I get a fighter RX and stash it away with the collection I am building? Or try and get a Mad Bull and it to the collection? The collection which in some, a few, many, maybe a decade will be sold as an entire selection of Tamiya cars starting with the Super Shot, Hot Shot, black pumpkin, Silver pumpkin, Black Lunch Box, Black Grasshopper II, Block Head Wild One, Suzuki Jimny and I wanted to add two more . Would the Anniversary Black RX fighter be a good choice?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Před rokem +1

      ZI would say from a collector standpoint the RX memorial is going to become more rare over time as they will not be releasing that one again. The mad bull has been in production for decades and I doubt they will completely discontinue it any time soon. So for a NIB kit the RX is a better investment. I know they can still be found but in 5 or ten years they will start getting very difficult to find and the prices will go up. The mad bull will probably still be in production. personally I say get both and store the RX and build and have fun with the mad bull!! LOL
