  • I was finally able to get out with the Tamiya Terra Scorcher I recently built and drive it around! It drives well and was fun both in the yard and on the track! Thank again to Keith from RC Icons for gifting this to the channel, truly awesome and Keith, you need to build one for you track for sure!!!
    This rounds out my Thundershot chassis cars so it is on to try and complete another series from Tamiya!
    You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

    Totally makes sense the astroturf with higher traction made the car want to flip, it would benefit from a harder rear sway bar on high traction but then you’d slide too much on the dirt. Awesome video!

      It did do very well! I think the sport tuned motor is going to be good in there and about the most I would want in it for my little track. Any more than that I'll be fighting wheel spin too much. I am a bit heavy handed on the throttle!! That is why I let you run all the 6 and 8s stuff!! LOL!!

    Hi Addam and great to se the Terra Scorcher out and running. I'm glad it isn't just me, as I was a bit underwhelmed with the speed from my stock motor, too! I was also thinking of the ST to pep her up a bit. Good times all the same and I loved those extra shots at the end! :))

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Před rokem +1

      It did well but a.ithink a little more pep would make it a little more fun. Might be a bigger handful on the track but it drives so well I think it will be fine and fast! I need to get it into the 9 second lap times and stay in the low 10s and I think that will be a ton of fun! The ending shots were to catch any wrecks but ended up getting some cool shots coming over the mountain!! I think that will be a regular thing!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Před rokem

      LOL, the track was just a little too wet to crack the 10 second mark! The tires were getting caked up and causing it to be a little slippery on the carpet on some laps and other it wanted to hook up too well. On a drier track it would probably shed those few tenths an get into the 9s! It has rained all day yesterday and one and off for the next two or three days so it won't be any time soon! yeah the main track camera is the good Sony camera I use in the shop to record the videos and it tends to desaturate the color a little and the corner camera was my Goggle Pixel which takes wonderful pics and video. • @ShenRC
    @ShenRC Před rokem +1

    😁👍Nice test run, I was thinking after I got my chassis finished that the rear sway bar kind of buggered up the rear suspension travel it makes the other side A arm move when you compress the opposite sides up? I think tamiya made it a little to stiff it should have bent more easy (softer) I though it would make the buggy a bit bouncy because of it. also this thing stock the shocks are way to over dampened I for one eventually am going to swap my stock shock oil out for like 10 or 15wt I don't know why tamiya makes you make the shocks like they do the oils so thick the shocks rebound comes back way to slow to react over bumpy surfaces that's why in stock form most of there RC's always just bounce around over everything. I hope my body comes out the way I am planning it should look super cool! Stay tuned!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Před rokem +1

      On the bench it does feel a bit stiff but it really worked well on the track. It kept it nice and flat and it does allow the inside tire to lift and scrub off speed without tipping the car over. For general running around it may not be super great but for the track it really helps a ton in the cornering. I think with a little drier track it would be in the 9 second lap times and consistent low 10s. I do not like the stock oil either, I have been building most of the kits with light oils for the last year. I usually go for 15-25wt, depending on the shock piston. I have noticed the 10-15 in some make them move too much and it gets bouncy like a friction shock would be. Sometimes it works rights away and other times I have to change it out after a run to something thicker or thinner. The stock oil is rarely a good choice. Now in the Fighting Buggy it worked perfectly but that is a really heavy rear end and loose front shocks to begin with. I am very curious to what the body of yours is going to be!! If you are nervous it is probably going to look epic!

    • @ShenRC
      @ShenRC Před rokem +1

      @@AddamsPlayground Yeah I noticed that too some of the shocks work great even with 10wt then others 15 or so works better, I think your almost better just drilling out the shock pistons holes a hair larger this way you can use the stock oil so you don't have to buy new oil or waste the kit oil all the time!

      This was on the stock silver can. Too much more motor and it would be spinning all over the place on the track so this is actually a really good amount of power to keep it stable and predictable. A sport tuned is all I would upgrade it to, if I upgrade it all. Fast motors don't make fast laps

      @@AddamsPlayground hey I've seen them run on 4000 KV motors just fine.

      @@bradkalman2353 sure you can put a fast motor into anything but can you actually drive it around the track with a ridiculous fast motor faster than a tamer motor? Most of the time no, as you end up going past the usable traction of the tires and end up going slower because you are fighting the car the whole way around the track. Of course you can put a fast motor in it but the usability on the track diminishes after a point.

      @@AddamsPlayground Great point Addam, I totally agree, I found exactly the same when racing with Rob around our little test tracks. The other downside of fitting a crazy motor is that you're gonna wear out the drivetrain and tyres like there's no tomorrow, it all gets very expensive for no actual gain in lap speed, only straightline speed!

    Your terra got scorched! I hope you have insurance...

      Slight mishap but all is good so no claim needed. It was the loose nut behind the wheel that caused it!!

      @@AddamsPlayground I was thinking more that the Terra Scorcher "burned up the track". You know:
      terra = earth
      scorcher = burny-burny
      The jokes are not funny if I have to explain them...sheesh! 😜
