I saw somewhere that the Devils have given up the first goal at the same rate as the 1992-93 Ottawa Senators, who won 10 whole games that season
As a Devils fan I am just so over this season…
The fact that they have allowed the first goal 44 times is mind-boggling to me. Also, they can't get a save and have been terrible in their zone.
Our defensive system is abysmal!!! Marino and Hughes in particular have been huge defensive liabilities!
The frustration as a fan reminds me of the 95/96 season for the Devils when they missed the playoffs after winning the Cup the season before. Expecting a good season but getting a lacking mediocre one. The fat lady was singing in Anaheim last night :C

The media hates LA, I used to live there when they won the cups in 2012 and 2014 and I don’t remember any (besides a few local) media giving them any credit even when they made the finals 😂. It’s funny how the media is so negative towards teams like LA or WSH, while Toronto, Edmonton, New York, etc get so much praise😂

Edmonton have a Calder trophy finalist and Skinner has been extremely good in many games. Maybe try watching games instead of living in an echo chamber of ignorance
As a Devils fan, I was hoping the Stadium Series win would lift them to a better path down the stretch buuuttttt obviously it has not. Coaching, goaltending, defense, and much needed toughness are holes that need to be assessed this offseason. I love Jack and fortunate he's on the team but sometimes he plays a one man mentality at times which leads to giveaways. See what Fitz' gameplan is with the deadline but yeah, season's over
As a Rangers fan I almost forgot that the Devils played in the Stadium Series. 😂😂😂 Sorry about your team. Also as a Rangers fan I've had my fair share of heartache, but the Rangers v Islanders game was epic. I've been to over 100 Rangers games in my lifetime and this one takes the #1 spot. They'll have to make it to the finals to eclipse this one. I was too young to go in 94.

We are cooked, this season never got off the ground. The second dougie was out for the season I knew it was over.
Lindy will have to be the scapegoat for this year, just the unfortunate reality.
Little speed bump in the path to the cup though, we will be back next year.
I already wrote this on yesterday's vid, this season is done for us and everyone should accept it! We need a major coaching team change in the off-season and we need to acquire an elite goalie!

Panthers pulled an unlikely comeback (unlikely even for them) and are a proven cup contender
The points line is several points higher at this time this year than it was last year. 64 points in 60 games had Florida tied for the 2nd wild card spot. This year that's 5 points out of a playoff spot with 3 teams ahead of them for it. Job is way tougher for the Devils than it was the Panthers last year.

If I was Fitzy I’m trading Toffoli away and trying to trade palat to get as much as possible and maybe go after saros on the offseason and with those contacts gone upgrade in FA
they’re putting up the same first goal allowed numbers as the ottowa team that won 10 games, the fact that they’re just a few wins out of a playoff spot is crazy, if those holes would have been fixed much earlier they’d be in a significantly better position
The Devils were my preseason pick from the East to play in the finals. Guess not. But hey, they just acquired Kurtis McDermid from the Avs. That has to help, right.
As a Devils fan, they are WEAK. No one stands up for each other. Hopefully a guy like MacDermid lights a spark.
As an Avs fan all I can say is I hope he gets more ice time with NJ than he got with the Avalanche. He wa a healthy scratch most games and when he did suit up he got 4-5 minutes a game. He is one of the leagues toughest players though. Hope it works out for him in NJ.@@R3IGNMAK3R

I’ve learned not to get my hopes up too much about making the playoffs, but at the start of the season it really felt like it might be our year. Even if by some miracle we DO make the playoffs in the next few weeks, I can’t see any movement beyond first round.
The fact that we are still are in the playoff race is ridiculous. This should've been our season but things just changed and we aren't the same team as we were last year.
Exactly! The Devils have really not shown up against many teams that they should beat this year. The worst problem that the Devils have is amateur Blue-liners. How many bad plays does Luke Hughes make per game? Constantly failing to clear the puck and turning the puck over in front of his goalie. Both of these things happen way too much. When Hamilton went down for the season they need to shore op the defense with one of the guys the Calgary has been shopping, Noah Hanafin and or Tanev could possibly have saved theis season but the GM just didn't get it done. Of course those guys weren't going to come cheap but something had to be done. As the season went on and injuries really started to pile up, the Defense just got worse and worse. I have no doubt Luke will be an excellent hockey player someday but he sure isn't right now. It takes 3 years to make an NHL defenseman and he hasn't even played 1 full year yet. The same can be said about Nemec and Bahl. This is what should have been fixed a month ago, at the latest, while most people were yapping about getting a new goalie. What the Devils usually do in situations like this is to fire their coach. That's what I expect to see before the season ends. The problem isn't Lindy, the problem isn't goaltending. It's been a failure to make the necessary adjustments to the situation that they found themselves after the D- Corps was decimated by injures to ALL of their most experienced (Defensive) players. When Brendon Smith, hardly a great player but a veteran, versatile and competent player. When he went down everything was exposed and yet wasn't addressed by Fitzgerald even at that late hour. You can't score from your own end of the Ice!

I remember devils fan calling a few of us stupid when we dared pointing out that letting go of Severson to make room so soon for their younger prospects who might've benefitted from another year of dev time could be something they'd end up regretting...
To me the Devils & the Sabres (and even more so the Blue Jackets & the Sens) have all made the mistake of acting like they'd already arrived and their rebuilt was done. Well... Not quite !
Teams like the Red Wings, the Habs and the Ducks seem to be taking a much more cautious and patient approach, it's working well for the Red Wings, starting from next year we should see the Ducks and Habs also get tougher to counter.

As a life-long Devils fan (I was there in '82) ... it's over. Aside from being hit hard by injuries, we have to look hard at the decision to let Wood, Sharangovich and Tatar go. The spirit and energy is not there.
Wood became a total passenger later on in his tenure here and clearly lost the heart which was the sole purpose of him being here. Sharangovich was good but overrated defensively and as a penalty killer and you gotta give up talent to acquire it. Tatar has decent skill but is a massive regular season merchant
I agree with all your points. But Hockey is so much about chemistry on the ice. I don't see this season what we had last. My point is the subtractions and additions deteriorated the 'Team'.@@Chosenlawman
@@mh-ct7oc I’m sure it didn’t help but I think Sharangovich, Zetterlund (and let’s be honest from an on ice standpojnt McLeod) are the only players the team is missing discounting the injuries. I think it’s clear that the team has lost Lindy (and perhaps gotten too used to him and maybe even started embracing his excuses) accompanied with a downgrade in goaltending and taking a minor gamble on a younger defense has dwindled the season hard. I still think if we acquired at least an nhl goaltender (since no one has provided nhl level goaltending this season overall besides debatably Daws) a couple months or more ago we wouldn’t be having this conversation. My opinion on Fitz has tanked hard from this season. How he never threw the life raft is totally beyond me
It’s always so annoying seeing national broadcasts and even msg broadcasts throwing around “the devils have the most comeback wins this year” as if that’s supposed to be impressive for a team that’s let up the first goal in over 60% of the games they’ve played.
Ravaged by injuries, allergic to executing in clutch and high leverage situations, half of our D core are first full season starters, and goaltending fell off a cliff. I loved the moves that Fitz made, but it just isn’t their year. They need to be sellers this deadline and reload. Markstrom and Hanifin aren’t going to change this teams fortunes. Make a push for Ullmark at the draft.
Wow 44/60 is insane. Gotta wonder if they were even like 30/60, theyd probably be playoff position rn.
Hughes brothers, Hischier, Bratt, Nemec, Holtz, Mercer all studs. This team better figure it out before they are in cap hell with all these guys to pay. Yes I know Jack and Nico are on some of the best contracts in hockey. And yes I know all the others will probably sign bridge deals but they have a short window from my perspective.

Sometimes things just aren't clicking. As a Rangers fan I might be biased here, but the Devils are very fluky. Last year they were dominant, this year things just seem to constantly go wrong with them.

This team can’t isn’t ready for the playoffs. Ruff’s not a good coach, the defense and goaltending is bad, and our team is just overall soft. I keep seeing fans and media talking like this season is somehow salvageable but it isn’t. Likes assess the problems and fix them during the offseason. Keeping our assets are more important than trying to make a wildcard spot.

I’m so feed up with this team like we just continue to do nothing. No trades for any d-man or goalie, continue to pass up shots from the slot over and over and over again trying to make the perfect pass like just shoot the damn puck it’s every game every season. Then we want to give the other team a free goal to start with every game and don’t start playing till the third I’m tired of it. Tom need to do something and fast.

Dougie Hamilton’s absence has proven to Devils fans that he is the backbone of the defense. Without him, the Devils are nothing.
He's just one player. And he's not even a good defender lol. He's an offensive dman. But yes they do miss him for sure.
The Devils just don't have it this year. Their D core is looking ROUGH without Dougie (until L. Hughes and Nemec progress further) and their goaltending has been awful. Daily Faceoff has Kevin Bahl on their top pairing. That paired with Vitek and Schmid's seasons is not a recipe for success.
Teams not making the playoffs, can play without pressure. So you can't think an easier game is possible and don't play hard.

Its not the defense. Yes, there have been lapses, but that can be said about most teams.
Is it Lindy, well when the team decides to play for him, then no, but if the young team doesnt listen, its a mess.
But ITS THE GOALTENDING. Ive been a devils fan for 30 of my 35 years of life, and we had one goalie. Even when he was in his late 30s, he could still make a save to keep the team in it.
Vitek vancek is the rebound king, schmid is giant who is translusent, and daws is inconsistent.
Part of a goalies job is to keep the team in games this season, and that just happened, at all, this season.

I’m a lifelong devils fan and I like Daws a lot. High danger chances against this team are just ridiculous! Rangers got a 4v1 on us after a few 2v1 and a 3v1. That with bad coaching and being soft don’t mix well.
I agree. Daws plays well. Sure some easy ones get by but we have done that to Igor and Illya this year too. Confidence and deployment are the issues. That comes from coaching

He should've been let go last year or the year before that. Blame Andrew Brunet for the delay, everyone thought it was Ruff that was responsible for their stellar gameplay last year. It wasn't, just look at what Brunet is doing in Smashville right now. If they would've FIRED LINDY last year and promoted Brunet, they'd have their coveted wildcard spot in the standings!
NJ extended Lindy at the end of last season and GM Tom Fitzgerald was extended this season.
