Mine is simaler
It would be neat if there was a mod which allowed you to beat the game with the Institute intact with other factions. Everyone was intent on blowing it up, but the option to save it and use it could be interesting. So if you capture it for the Brotherhood, then you can teleport to the Institute and find all the Synths and human Institute Scientists replaced with Brotherhood Scribes and Scientists scouring their database for new technology. If you capture it for the Railroad, then you would find Railroad operatives using it as a safe haven for Synths, while they search the databases to find other Synths the Institute sent out into the Commonwealth.
They could even move some main characters around to help with immersion, so that not everyone in the newly controlled Institute is some unknown person. For example if you take it for the Brotherhood, then you can find Proctor Quinlan there now. He would still give you the same assignments as before, but now he's leading the research at the Institute instead of hanging out on the Prydwen. If you take it for the Railroad then Doctor Carrington and Tinker Tom could be found there as well. Also, companions should be able to join you at the Institute.

Is it just me, or is an institute playthrough more fun and rewarding than the others?
The Nerd Empire the Institute and Brotherhood are literally the only ones that are interesting, they both have awesome technical prowess ,a strong military , and a stable Faction. The minutemen? Because I can't kill them, I decided to make the most of it and use them as my police force while either the Brotherhood or Institute as my actually Government and military force. The railroad is just Garbage.

In my game, I chose the Institute. My roleplay reason for keeping the Minutemen around were to be a sort of police force, and the face of all my settlements.
I felt bad destroying the institute, but felt infinitely worse killing the brotherhood.

Wow your BOS and Institute videos like this just make me wanna do my first BOS playthrough and my 4th Institute playthrough, these mods are amazing. Good work on the video and finding these mods.
This is a really great series of videos you've started. As someone who really digs into RP-themed playthroughs, it's awesome to have a set of improvements and assorted QOL additions. This has actually made me want to try an Institute run for the first time.
I enjoy all your videos, but I think this is the first time I've seen someone provide a sort of "mod suite" for certain types of playthroughs. A great initiative. : ) Thanks very much for sharing!

A thank for you this Oxhorn, my main character is with the Institute and it's being quite annoying how very few (in comparison to the other factions) mods there are which aren't just retextures for them. So thanks for putting together this straight forward comprehensive list! Hopefully this'll help other Institute players find mods in the future too.

That would break the lore, since he's supposed to be a very old prototype. He mentions this too, and it's an important part of the Far Harbor story.
I wish there was a mod that redid the Institute Pistol/Rifle entirely. They look so bulky and annoying as hell to carry.
Check out Smaller Institute Weapons, it makes all Institute weapons noticeably smaller and held lower in first person so wielding Institute weapons doesn't feel like trying to wield a tactical refrigerator haha

I love how your Institute character looks like a 90s Saturday morning cartoon villain, it just works so well! I usually either make my characters everymans or really embrace the old Bethesda nightmare fuel character design philosophy (if you know you know) but I like the idea of making a character with a cartoony theme such as yours or maybe a drill sergeant caricature for a Minutemen general, a Prince Charming character for the BoS, or like a James Bond-esque character for the Railroad.
Just a bed in the Director's quarters would have been nice, Bethesda!

Laa Mawjuud Because the Institute is not you, it's MANY people, and for GENERATIONS they done a lot of bad things. So, some might argue, they are beyond redemption, they must be destroyed to right all their wrongs. I myself like the Institute, but I only did so because I believe with people like Madison Li and Binet, it can truly change for the better.
MistaGify right i mean one person can change a corrupt institution, i mean we do something similar in fo3, nv, and in some respects fo4, in nv we help fix the brotherhood after elijah, we can take down house and fix the strip unifying the families again and making the strip better, in fo4 we fix the reputation of the minutemen after quincey and partially the bos after killing maxston, there is precedent of fixing corrupt organisations and ones that lost their way, and the institute has all the makings to be an actual savior of humanity woth some restructuring by the new director, allowing for better relations between commonwealth and institute by sharing some of the tech, allowing for their expirements to be done under better oversight and with the crops, in a more stransparent manner, and making synths a kind of guarding force for the commonwealth, like the cyberdogs from big mt and the mojave, with their teleportation allowing them to defend any settlement in moments, i made a connection to house and fixing the strip, well thats cuz the gen 2 synths are basically humanoid securitrons with more judgemental abilities, the institute under the lone wanderer has the ability to make the commonwealth as safe and progressive as the strip is under the courier
Indeed, the Institute, despite its power, is a relatively small organization. A single strong personality in the central chair can definitely make vast changes to it.
As long as the geeks are allowed to continue their experiments in their labs without interference from pesky commonwealth scavs or zealots, you can pretty much do whatever you want.
It is a dictatorship tho. And the next qualified person probably shares in Fathers beliefs. Not yours.

One of my favs is the phase 4 Institute expansion mod. Its pretty cool it adds several new areas/ rooms to the Institute making it bigger. New labs. A command center etc
That Ghost in the Shell reference for the synth suit was a nice touch. I'll have to pick this mod up at some point

Personally I went with Terminator Synth Gen2 by SecretAgent99. Comes with various skeleton and eye color options, and brings the skin closer to human pigmentation. I remember going with Institute blue energy colored eyes, and I probably chose the dirty steel skeleton to give it that cleaner mechanical look, while retaining the grit of wasteland wandering.
Now all we need is for institute weapons to be good

Uso on ps4 gives a bunch of the institute items for settlements like the reclamation chair
Kinda old but in case you didn't know, UCO gives you the possibility to change the synth armor skin to white, black or metal gray

I do like how clean and crisp the institute is, I just can't bring myself to side with them. I almost did on my first play through but chose the railroad instead. wouldn't it make more sense for the institute to make use of advanced polymers and plastics instead of the much more rare metal and alloys?
I don't think so when it comes to radiation and EM containment, like on the Inst. weapons which have a radiation warning on the side of them.

Those "reclaimation chairs" aren't actually what you think they are. You ever heard of those massage chairs they sometimes have in shopping malls? Well the so called "reclaimation chairs" are actually similar to those, except that instead of performing a massage, they perform acupuncture.
See, it turns out that the institute had a phase when they where researching "alternative medicine", including traditional Chinese medicine, such as acupuncture. The acupuncture chairs are a result of that project. (It's just a useful side characteristic of the acupuncture chairs, that they have direct access to the nervous system, and can be used to reclaim their wayward synths.) It may be possible for them to be used to brainwash regular humans for all I know. But surely they are the best at releasing your body's tension, and unblocking your chakras! These chairs would be a great addition to any settlement to make the settlers happy.
I sometimes use the Courser X-92 Power Suit mod for an Institute playthrough. I find it fits really well with the theme. Although it's a bit too clean, but it is nice.
Thanks for the great info. Your selection is excellent both in lore and gameplay. I always thought Bethesda was a bit negligent towards all who chose to join the Institute. Its great there all those great modders out there to fix it.

IMO the FN P90 and HK G11 mod fits perfectly with the institiue, because they have awesome institute skin and the skin make them actually shoot blue laser.
The Vektor weapon mod with the institute skin is also very nice:)

But why? The institute is genuinely the only future humanity has... The only reason it isn't the Canon ending is because it would make no more fallout games possible, which should be a sign it's good. The brotherhood wants to destroy technology that could catapult humanity so far when it comes to technology, and I'm not even talking about the destruction of The Institute base (which everybody wants to do). As Piper says, the railroad is perfectly okay with taking in and protecting synths who have most certainly killed and kidnapped multiple people, so they are just as evil as the institute... And that's not to mention the fact that there's no way that the Synths are actually sentient, considering that if the institute can fix their sentience so easily, it has to be a problem in the programming like they imply... The minutemen are the only ones who are remotely good, but they provide a pretty trash future, not having nearly enough technology to keep things going if they ever became the main faction of the Commonwealth.

First off, assuming your character takes over, and knowing that they have always helped people, that's a future that you shouldn't have to worry about (if you decide to be a good person)... And second, are you implying you would rather have death, destruction, and eradication of the entire Commonwealth over a dictatorship? I mean, all the other factions are making awful choices, or their choices are just very significant. It just seems like The Institute are the only people who actually have an idea of what they're doing...

institute rifle should be equivalent to laser rifle
for reals, or at least the moded ones one should overpower the laser rifles. Weak as base cheap for synth use weapons but with the best capability for enhancing. While Laser should be the medium base with decent beggining and high end mods. so much could be imporved in fallout 4.
@FN-2187 My Fallout 4 is heavily modded (255 plugins) and due to some mods like Better Locational Damage and Live Dismemberment, the Synth rifles are one of the top tier weapons in game at this point. Only beaten by the Wattz Rifle mod I have but at best the Wattz mostly deals 3 - 10 more damage (Except the Desintegrator Wattz Unique Legendary)

+Verax I'm Minuteman and I agree with him, Synths SHOULD be free but the Railroad just do everything stupid and value Synthetic lives over Humans. This is why the Minutemen should be left to deal with the Synth problem and not the other factions because they are too blind with their own ambitions and goals.
ZombieGamerz2015 They mostly just don't want the synths under the control of the institute. When they "rescue" synths, they often override their personalities, basically killing them. The have some cool gear, but they are my least favorite faction.
Planning to do an Institute play-through next I'll keep this in mind.

The Institute Power Armor by M150 looks like something straight out of Wolfenstein: The New Order. It is so awesome, and I wish they kept it in the game, but thank God for the mod.

The institute is the only good faction in the game. People just put unrealistic expectations on scientist that are trying to bring mankind into the next generation of technological and engineering feats. The wasteland and the commonwealth isnt going to change overnight and neither is it realistic that the institute can shelter or teach or feed or trust a city of people who are out for their own selfish needs. When you look at the Institute it is colony of law abiding scientist that share a common goal for mankind and for each other. You look at Railroad or the Brotherhood or the common wastelander they are out for themselves.

Sure you can bring up that they kidnap people, murdered people, replaced people... Guess what every civilization and nation has done so to protect the sovereignty as whole. When you look at the whole of the fallout universe -- the minutemen, the brotherhood, the railroad all want to blow up the institution. The institution needs their spies, their networks, and their footprint in the commonwealth to protect themselves from outside sources like (BoS technology zealots, Railroad civil rights zealots, and Minutemen and cities of the common people who lash out from not knowing or understanding).

The institute never has declared war on any of these factions. It has only protected itself from factions seeking to destroy it. Railroad formed to destroy the institute, BoS invaded the commonwealth to destroy the institute, and the minutemen are out to destroy due to the concept of (big brother).

We as humans fall into complacency and normality and acceptance for status quo unless life is threaten or war brings change. With the institution they look to the future, to build it block by block with a new understanding of what the human race is as a collective. Ox, i like you, i always go for lore friendly mods too because i want to be immersed not just have a laugh, because when i get immersed into a game i play it longer. like when i got skyrim, i did not even know it had mods but when i played it i was so immersed that once i played it all night long non stop and i thought it was only 11pm when i got off (im serious, that really happened) not to mention, when i got skyrim it was the only game i would play even though i had 8-10 other games. in the end my character had full deadric armor and i had completed the dragonborn, dawngaud, and even the hearthfire dlc and i was ready to mod then after i modded skyrim to hell i decided to do that one story mission where i go into an elven party (its early in the game) (skyrim joke)

The t51 with the institute paint job is the best armor for them the armor it suits the theme of cool armor with white and space guns
