Graves' disease, also known as Basedow-Graves' disease, is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the thyroid gland.
Normally, the immune system protects our bodies from invaders like bacteria and viruses. However, in autoimmune diseases, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the body.
In Graves' disease, the immune system produces antibodies that stimulate the thyroid gland to produce too much thyroid hormone.
Anti-TSH receptor antibodies (TRAbs) are similar to thyrotropic antibodies (TSAbs) or thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins (TSIs). Thyrotropic antibodies (TSAbs) are specific antibodies that stimulate TSH receptors on the surface of thyroid cells, increasing thyroid hormone production.
