- Side by side comparison showing the fit and finish on the STI DVC 3 Gun and the Springfield Prodigy 1911DS along with some of the features I like on each. The Prodigy is brand new and I have ran about 300 rounds through it about. It is functioning much better but is still dragging on that disconnect and seems to be adding more drag than I feel it should have. Other fitment and quality of the 1911 DS seems great. I love the way it feels and how it shoots when it is functional
Production fitment+9lb recoil spring=the issues everyone is having. Crazy they spent years working on these and bungled the launch with one of the cheapest parts.
The problem with the disconnector is that the factory sear spring which is behind the main spring housing is way too bent forward, causing the direct pressure on the disconnector, which in turn makes it very hard to push down , even with your finger. If you have any other 1911 , try pushing that disconnector down and it will push down much easier. If you pull back on the middle of the three leaf sear spring, it will solve the disconnector issue and also make the trigger pull lighter, thank me later. Be careful, you can over do this! Either way the gun does need a heavier recoil spring to completely solve the failure to go into battery. So it is a combination of things that is wrong with the 5" version of the Prodigy.
Dawson precision makes the Springfield 5" TRP version of the tooless guide rod that works perfectly in the 5" Prodigy. I bought it and it works just fine. The difference is the Springfield reverse plug has to be right.
Swapped my stock spring with a 12# nighthawk spring and have had no issues. Definitely increased the slide velocity. Once its broken in i may lower to get less recoil. Put 200 rounds of cheap white box Winchesters through mine after the spring swap and zero malfunctions.
Glad to hear! I bought a 12# nighthawk spring as well and will test it out tomorrow for the first time.
The 4.25 works version works great! No issues
Thanks for this info! Appreciate the update
Had to polish up the rails and disconnect. Now 500 rounds no failures and I tuned my magazines they were so outta spec they nose dive the round cause the failure to feed.
Can you elaborate on how the mags were out of spec and what you did to tune them?
@@Buletspunge555 ok just look on CZcams under tuning your 2011 mags I used a set of reverse players for the feedlips
@@richardadkins3602 will do, thanks!
Got my 5in model on the 1st, got up to the range yesterday and put roughly 250rds through it, mixed with various weight fmj and hollow points. Only had 2 hangs ups with some old winchester 147gr hollow points. Had one fail to feed and one stovepipe both in the 2nd mag I ran through it. After that though had absolutely no issues and I ran about 60 rounds of that winchester through it. Mine will get hung up on the disconnector too but after playing with it and shooting it, its not as bad anymore.
I used a stone on the disconnector and the slide no longer hangs up on it. Runs perfectly.
I found it was cerikote on mine causing the sticking before i ever shot it i racked it all day for a few days then cleaned it 500rds in no malfunction and shoots great
I currently have 1,230 rounds through my 5 inch model. it was terrible until I polished the feed ramp and a couple other internals. shot 480 rounds today without a single malfunction. SA owes me a case of ammo for fixing this on my own lol. I can still get my slide to hold itself on the disconnector.
The day the prodigy was announced. I went to my local retailer and fondled a stacatto P and the prodigy side by side. The first thing i noticed was the same disconnect hand up on the prodigy. I will say, the stacatto had it too but nowhere near as bad as the prodigy. Not having a prodigy to disassemble, I would speculate the issue is with the geometry of the slide and or the disconnector itself, or both.
Great video. Lots of info to take in while im waiting for the one I ordered to get to my FFL. I went with the 4.25". Everyone has been having good luck with those. It's my first time owning a 1911/2011 platform (definitely not my first firearm). I also ordered some performance parts from EGW and Atlas while im waiting. I plan to post a video on my channel when I get it all put together. Thanks for sharing. Just sub'd.
I have heard the 4.25” runs much better. And I think the earliest models of these were more problematic than current. Hope you enjoy it the 2011 platforms are a lot of fun
@@thepewreview I e heard the same. Fingers crossed.
The DVC 3 gun is my dream gun
Worth every penny
Is the geometry the same on both disconnectors? What dictates the tension on the disconnector? Is it an easy spring swap or something?
You need adjust the sear spring tension to reduce drag on the disconnector
Min parts will. Red time to wear in for half the cost I won’t complain put 1k hard fast rounds in and it will be butter
The difference of a production pistol to a semi custom. Polish the disconnect and change the spring for about 1000 rounds then put the stock back in and have a blast.
Maybe you can file a little the bump of the hammer, but just enough the slide can move down the hammer to be catched by the sear, I do it on my airsoft 1911, I know that airsoft its not real steel 1911, but it is basicaly the same function and design!. I did it because the slide was getting a little stuck in the hammer bump, so i filed a bit and now moves more snappy
If you like airsoft 1911 check out my most recent video with the laser Ammo simulator
Hey! Kimber makes a Springfield 1911 double stack!
the problem with the Prodigy is it has a 25# main spring. A 17# main spring will help it a bunch.
I have the 4.25 model instead of the 5.5 with zero issues so far. I've put about 500 rounds down range with zero issues. Maybe a 5.5 issue? Or maybe it has a break in period.
Most of the issues I have seen seem to be the 5” model
Stupid question. Did you clean off the factory oil and reoil it?
Yes
O My staccato mags work great 👍🏻
Bob Marvel disco cut would eliminate the hang up.
1k rounds is now under 300 bucks go have some fun
CZcamsrs keep saying "it's very well built but..." sorry NO...it ain't fucking well built if it doesn't shoot. that's all there is to it. It's an expensive gun that doesn't work.
It astonishes me that people are OK buying such an expensive gun, which should work right out the box, and instead have to polish and replace parts to get it work properly. Springfield Armory's quality and engineering is horrible on this model.
Because most of use who have been playing with guns for years know that there will be guns younhave to play with and break in no matter how.muxh they cost. This isn't anything new to us.
The other side they are used to taking somthing out and never having a problem. You want that grab a glock or and xdm osp. The 1911 platform is not infallible
@@driftitlikeyouownit Absolutely, but for such a reputable company to put out a product like that is inexcusable. You're better off saving your pennies and getting a Staccato, which can/have fail but with much less frequency.
I want the 4.25 model 😫
Put some grease on that disconnect.
