  • The All Steel 45 ACP Springfield Armory Operator, which has been absent for a few years, has now been brought back! This has a 5 inch match grade stainless steel barrel, 3 dot dovetailed sights with tritium in the front one, and VZ G10 grips. The new patern on the backstrap reminds me of an Ed Brown a little bit. The Operator releases today, December 20th, 2021.

Just got one in December 2023. Very nice. Had a trigger job done to get a 3.7 ppund trigger creep. Changed the G10 grips out for Magpul 1911 grips. Remedied the lack of checkering with a piece of Talon grip tape for the front strap. Fits my Streamlight TLR-1 1,000 lumen light perfectly. Takes rotation as my nightstand bodyguard with a Wilson 10 round magazine packing Fedwral HST Premium 230 grain +P JHP.

Springfield currently has four other bushing barrel .45 ACP Operator models with different trim and paint, all under the Loaded line. There are 2 cone barrel .45 ACP Operator models under the TRP line. The most recently released model has the lowest MSRP of $1099, which makes it the most logical to purchase, as you’ll spend less for stuff you’ll probably throw away. This has all MIM parts, but all of their 1911s mentioned above are all metal. I have TRPs.

You and I paid $1600/1700 for a TRP, most people don’t. They buy the $800 Ronin. Hell, you can get a Ronin Government and an EMP 1911 for $1600. I’m sure this is a solid gun, but…you really want one. was told that 70 series when dropped muzzle down it can discharge a round even if the safety is on due to the inertia moving the firing pin forward. I read somewhere this can be fixed by switching out the firing pin an replace it with a titanium firing pin. Not sure how that helps though.

I'd tried skateboard tape. Too abrasive. Then I bought a pack of Talon grip tape. Most come pre cut fir Glocks or Sigs. Talon sells sheets of them, but my gunshop couldn't order them. So I bought a kit pre cut for a large Glock and just cut out a strip of paper and made a template, then cut the Talon grip tape and applied it. Works real well.
