    This is such a relatable episode. We all cherish memories from our childhood. Being an adult sucks and we always have that nostalgic trip to our younger days. The ending is so touching and beautiful. It's okay to look back and cherish good memories but there's a difference between having nostalgia and being stuck in the past. We can make good memories even as adults and and look back on them years from now. Another excellent analysis, Anthony. Such a bittersweet episode.

    Excellent review and commentary, sir! Walking Distance is for sure one of the top tier TZ episodes for so many of the reasons you described. I'll admit that as I get older and things start to change rapidly, this episode really tugs at the heartstrings in all the right ways. I love it so much, especially the relationship between Martin and his parents, which is so unusual in a show this old for them to be enlightened enough to accept the possibility of time travel and have this meaningful talk. As well, my career takes a lot out of me so I also find this one very relatable and always try to remember, as important as work is, you need to live life and this episode reminds me of that. Keep up the great work!

    This is one episode I definitely remember, I've always been a sucker for time travel. I liked the simplicity of this story. Like you mentioned, they don't go on about the space time continuum or anything like that. It's simply a message of appreciating the present and looking forward to the future. It's so easy to dwell on the past whether good or bad which is why I've always made it a point to appreciate and welcome change because change is constant. @LesterMoore Před rokem +2

    I often wonder if going back, the possibility of time travel occupied Rod Serling's thoughts on some occasions.
    He had 5 time travel vignettes on The Twilight Zone that come to mind.
    This one, a trip to Willoughby, one where a pioneer traveling through the desert with a wagon train short on water, finds himself in a modern day diner where he receives future information about his small child son. Another where a man travels back to the night of Abraham Lincoln's assassination and he vainly attempts to foil the act. The other is where during a trip to a small town the traveler encounters an imperialist at a dinner table and after setting the pompous man straight he's questioned by a young woman he's become enamored of only to know she, as a school teacher will be killed in an upcoming fire.
    Suffice it to say all the stories had a touch of melancholy, yearning and sadness. As you pointed out the lesson is to make your current time in life as happily memorable and comforting as is possible.

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater
      @FeverDreamlandTheater  Před rokem +1

      Hey Mario, yeah I think Serling managed to cover so much in these types of tales. As you said, there's a sense of melancholy, yearning and sadness. I felt it too in 'The Time Element' the pilot I recently covered, but he also touch on the importance of making your current time in life as happy as possible. Yeah, a top episode for me for sure. For all those who have longed for that vibrant and wonderful quality felt in youth -- when the world was simpler and hope evergreen. Everything seemed possible then, and for most of us the darker aspects of reality were still blessedly at bay. Who wouldn't long to go back? Maybe that's heaven. Gig Young was a fine actor and elevated a great story idea to its worthy execution. Beautifully bittersweet. On a whimsical note, this episode always makes me want to try a chocolate soda -- with three scoops.

    I was late to the Twilight Zone party, as I've mentioned. Hadn't seen a single episode until I started watching the series in full. So I actually started from the beginning. The first episode was my first episode. And as good as the first few were, this was the first episode that really stuck with me; where I knew the series was truly something special. And that very well could be, like so many of us, I'm just a person stuck in a near permanent state of nostalgia.

You know when I was writing the script I resisted the urge to poke fun at myself, LOL, my whole channel is mostly older movies or tv that is super nostalgic to me. But even in general, the biggest & newest movies, especially sequels, are usually dipping into nostalgia too. Even the latest most slick superhero movies are based on characters that are decades old.
