For that sequence, where Tom flew less than 50 feet above the ground at 500 miles per hour. He was flown by the top pilot in the Navy, a Blue Angel pilot named “Walleye”. All of the top Navy pilots should and deserve to walk the red carpet with the actors at the premiers. If it were not for them there would be no top gun maverick! Just my humble opinion.

That kind of stuff is obviously Toms drug. Natural adrenaline. Since he doesn’t do drugs or drink. Plus he’s a psychopath. And I mean that literally. He’s a crazy person playing a normal person that’s an actor. He probably goes hunting for homeless people twice a year in some third world country.

I promise I'm more eloquent than this, but I'm trying to not bawl my eyes out. My dad has died since the 1st clips in '19... we watched the original SO. MANY. TIMES. He got surround sound waaaaaaay back and I swear it was mostly to watch Top Gun lol. He went to Aviation High in NY and learned airplane mechs. He tried to go into the AF, but his vision kept him from hoping to fly (talking 60's here) so he chose the Army. They gave him the highest clearance and he was an MP at White Sands. He thought he lucked out, but then they sent him over to VietNam... He got to fly IN a lot of stuff (1st Cav C/D Div) but wound up in the forest, fighting instead of using his trade. Picked up by Pan Am afterwards and fixed their birds for 41 years. So, I grew up flying all over the westerb hemisphere and just love the smell of jet fuel and the sound of a powerful engine.
We watched every movie that had jets in it. When we were in CA, we drove by Miramar and actually saw some flying. When we were in Hungary (where he was born), we actually found old MIG wreckage off the side of the road. We went to countless airshows. Until he died, we spent every Memorial Day weekend (and the days before it) "jet spotting" because the airport the Angels and Thunderbirds (they rotated every year), and other show jets took off from and landed was just a few miles away, so while I worked and he was at home, as soon as we'd hear the jets, we'd know the scout/lead had come to do the survey for the show. We'd run out to look for them. We were close enough to we could hear the engines start if the windows were open. On practice days and show day, we'd go sit in the cemetary next to the runway (the street next tonit was always packed, so 🤷‍♀️) and we both would get a rush.
I tell you all this to say THANK YOU for talking about the shots in the trailer, because it's exactly how we would have discussed it together. He never got to be a fighter pilot (and I gave up my dream of it.... how many 14 and 25 yr old girls have Tomcats and Hornets on their wall?! Guys in the Flight club: girls aren't allowed, me: not yet! Of course, not too many yrs later... BUT, didn't have 20/20, so that was that.)
Sorry for my long and rambling story, but I just wanted to let you know the unexpected way you touched my heart this AM.

My Marine son graduated from Top Gun prior to the movie being made. He and several of his buddies who are also TG grads were hired as extras for the bar scene. The producers wanted real Top Gun grads in the background. They all were wearing flight suits with their USN Fighter Weapons School patches visible. Based on the aviators in that scene wearing khakis it looks like was reshot. Oh well, there goes my son's acting career! The film looks to be awesome! We're really looking forward to it.

Officer shit is different, that’s for sure, but I’ve definitely seen enlisted guys hit 30+ and be E-7 or 8 only. I ETS’d in ‘08 from my Reserve unit it was also the retirement of one of our MSG’s. He had enlisted in the Navy during Vietnam as a forward observer attached to Morons, I mean…Marines. Jumped ship after that to active Army and Army Guard as a tanker, swapped to reserve and became an MP for the rest of his time. His original retirement date was October 1, 2001 and he was hit with the stop loss as an SFC. He was tactically and technically proficient, still swore like a sailor when not on patrol, but he also would buck the chain of command and tell them no when they were doing something stupid. He was hit with a second stop loss even. Finally got his third rocker in 2002 and that’s where he stayed until his retirement. Did declare sanctuary to have enough active duty time to have a full active retirement, then once secured he came back to the weekend gig.
When was all said and done I believe he had 35yr total TIS. What’s really crappy is had he gotten promoted to SGM, he automatically would have been RIFFED because in ‘08 he would’ve had too much total time but they had specifically removed E-8 from a max TIS.

As far as Goose's death in Top Gun, Ward Carrol did a good video explaining it, basically Goose didn't follow ejection procedures. In a flat spin the canopy can hang there and be a hazard if you just pull the handle, that's why Maverick says to "watch the canopy." He should have blown the canopy first to give it a second or two to clear the ejection path before triggering the yeet-seats.
TLDR: Goose's death was realistic if procedures weren't followed.

In other words, was it before or after Goose's ejection, chronologically?

MOVER, great video. Sorry you have to keep explaining the "safety of flight" and "training rules" to the masses. As a former Naval Aviator, I agree with everything you say. SAFETY is paramount and they are not going to break those rules for a movie. Some INTEL for you... I was at China Lake, on the set when they filmed the “Dark Star” which is super imposed over Blue Angel #2 which was no shit, 15 FEET and 500 Knots over the runway. See the guy standing in the khakis next to the suburban is a real CAPT who was the military liaison for the movie from CNAF. They practiced for 3 days and the CAPT (Naval Aviator Hornet driver) gradually stepped down the Blue Angels CO (flying #2) until he was 15 Feet 500 knots over the runway…you can see the end of the runway has a drop off about 10 feet. How do I know it was 15 and 500? 1. The CAPT told me, he was pretty proud of himself, 2. I have hundreds of controls as a JTAC (was a Naval Aviator as well as I mentioned) and NEVER have I seen a “show of force” or “Panel Check” this awesome… and I have seen some pretty awesome ones…lose your wings worthy. IRT the “Dark Star” it was a prop you will see in the film. Single seat SR-71 looking prop. It was parked at VX-31. The guard shack roof blowing off is also real and happened perfectly for the last take. I don’t think that was planned, as it stayed on the first few days but was lifting off a little more on every pass. Anyways, keep up the great work!!! ~ WAK

Both Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer were involved in the original Top Gun, and for all of its inaccuracies it was a great movie that we all loved, quote and remember. They are back again and Tom Cruise has been involved with the production company 'Skydance' for many great movies, and they are part of the act too, so they are all taking it really seriously. Apart from what you pointed out I am sure they learned from last time and have fixed a few things. I reckon this is gunna be another great movie - and certainly long anticipated. Cheers mate.

I hope I didn’t miss this in a previous response but, given that it’s been 30+ years since Maverick went to Top Gun, how likely is it he would be able to hang with the 20-30-year olds from a physiological context? I understand flying fighters will wipe out young, very fit pilots. I have to imagine an older pilot would have serious issues regardless of their fitness, especially given the over 3 decades of abuse!

The shot effectively makes the level jets look stationary, which with my high school physics must mean that the climbing jet has the same speed in the "forward" (to the right of the shot) direction as the level jets, which means he's moving through the air sideways (as well as climbing at a 30deg angle) at the cruising speed of a Hornet...

There's also the fact that 20 is a lot pre-production airframes, and that was caused by huge problems with finalizing the new engines for the Su-57 (the pre-production/prototypes have Su-35 engines), and also the factory responsible for making the new fighters is having problems with getting the serial production line up and running (mainly due to the many western sanctions that they received since 2014).

What gives away the splitting of the formation by the 3rd aircraft away as being impossibly fake is the reaction time of the pilots of the 2 planes. Both planes are maneuvering away from center before the 3rd plane is even visible above the canopy frame of either jet. In addition, if the 3rd jet were to split the formation in that fashion it would have to be traveling at a much higher rate of speed in the vertical than the 2 planes are traveling in the horizontal. It is pretty simple trigonometry. In order for the vertical jet to pull ahead of the formation as it passes through it would have to be traveling at their speed plus the extra speed required to be moving faster than them in a horizontal plane.
Since we know that fighter jocks always cruise at just under mach 1 this would make the speed of the vertical craft exceed the speed of sound. Sure they could be in an MOA which is cleared for supersonic flight and the apparent motion of the vertical jet would look like it was crabbing up through the formation.

no movie regardless of what it’s based on is EVER realistic. if I started a CZcams channel and critiqued any tv show/movie that involved physical therapy/spinal rehab/sports medicine I could have 100 videos shitting on all of them about how stupid and unrealistic they are.

10:00 theres no way they'd use them in combat. They really need to export them, if one were shot down in Ukraine whether it be from another fighter or a SAM that would ruin the illusion that they're undefeatable super fighters and considering nobody wants one anyway, it would kill the entire program.

that will be interesting because A- Its a Tomcat , wich are no longer in operational status por a long time (outside of Iran) B- the Fellon means its not a flashback (also the flight gear that RIO is wearing) and C- Its a F-14A or B (ejection handles on top of the seat) not even a D wich was the last ones remaing operational...

@@sparrowlt Ward Carroll did a video speculating about this, from leaked photos from the set he put together a very plausible reason for them to be in a Tomcat. If you're not worried about the plot being spoiled then go check out his video. Im pretty confident his theory is correct btw.

@@MrFarnanonical yeah i saw it yesterday and yes..its a lot of spoilers..
Also after giving it a tought .. this is a modern sequel (wich as we know are usually overblown overridicolous) of a classic movie wich had F-5s possing as a fictional MIG model with North Korea roundels flying deep into the indian ocean .. i mean.. they can literally say there is other countries flying F-14s , SU-57s or whatever and get away with it..

From what I've seen and heard they used a static F-14 display from Gillespie airfield. Rewired it so the exterior lights and interior monitors would be powered and used it probably (green screen and CG) for flying shots . Then for any on carrier shots they actually had it moved to the carrier the navy allowed them to film on which was docked at the time.

My theory is that one of the trainees get shot down in enemy territory and for whatever reason they can't go in for a rescue. Tom finds a Tomcat in storage somehow and conducts an unofficial rescue mission in it. That or they both get shot down and somehow acquire an enemy Tomcat to escape with.

    • @grifnizzle7197
      @grifnizzle7197 Před 2 lety

@@moriyamoriya5607 I think it's more likely the following: NOT-Iran is making nukes, so somebody has the idea to make a 'super squadron' to fly in and take them out (Iron Eagle II - minus Vipers and 'Russian' Phantoms). Maverick and Goose Jr. steal Tomcat from NOT-Iran after getting shot down. Flying too close to NOT-Syria our boys get intercepted by NOT-Russian Felon, who doesn't crush Tomcat in one circle with HOB R73 and helmet sight because the gleam from Mavericks pearly white buckteeth blinds seekers, at which point Mav goes into 'intentional' flat spin to launch 9M up Felon's ass because two circle fights are boring to Hollywood and no one in Top Gun ever actually shoots the gun.
