    There's no way they'd adapt the cursed child without massively rewriting it.
    Its literally all about Harry's son using time travel to go back in time to save Robert Pattinson from dying (Even though that dude would mean nothing to Harry's son) and as a result of him surviving he becomes a death eater instead and everythings much worse.

    Nah, think you're overthinking this, fellas. The runaway success of the game has shown the audience is able to either disassociate the work from the creator or it simply doesn't give a shit.
    FWIW I'm looking forward to the show; the movies left out a lot of interesting back stories and the acting from many of the child actors wasn't the best. There's lots upon which things can be improved by HBO.

    • @hdns4
      @hdns4 Před 4 dny +1

      What makes you think the child actors for the new show would be any better? The acting of the core trio was already very good for their respective ages. It's also incredibly lucky that none of them went insane halfway through the series and ended up getting themselves into twenty different controversies. I would say that the chances of catching lightning in a bottle twice in that regard are very slim. It's much more likely that the new child actors are either worse or end up cracking under the pressure or both.
      To be honest, I would be much more excited about the new series if it was animated. At least then it would stand up as its own unique adaptation, allowing us to see this story in a way that we haven't already seen it. Also the world of Harry Potter is just begging to be animated anyway. Plus, then you could cast adult voice actors to play the kids and they could simply evolve their voices over time. Instead, we're just getting the same kind of adaptation that we've already gotten but with more this time.
      Best case scenario, it's just more of the same and there's nothing exciting about that. More likely scenario, it's worse than the original and they ruin the lives of a bunch of kids by disrupting their childhood and putting them into the spotlight at way too young of an age because they don't take all of the precautions as they did with the original cast to keep them in school and to try and help them live normal lives.

    • @DarrenH001
      @DarrenH001 Před 4 dny

      @@hdns4 "Cracking up under the pressure"? 😂
      What are you talking about?
      It's clear you hold the movies in high esteem ("lightning in a bottle"?), which is fine, but objectively there is a lot of room for improvement.
      Not least of these things is the acting, as I've said. This in turn could significantly enhance the cogency of several character relationships, perhaps Harry & Ginny most of all.
      The extra time the long form format may also allow Ginny's character, with the right actor, to be fleshed out; for example showing her agency by winning the Quidditch cup in his absence etc etc.
      Additionally several interesting plot points & character backgrounds were given short shrift in the movies - or altogether omitted - that could now be given a chance to breathe.
      Just off the top of my head these include: the mystery around the Half Blood Prince's identity and details of his life (which, given he was an eponymous character in part 6, was a strange omission in the first place); the damning revelations in Rita Skeeter's book; Voldemort's mother.
      And they're just from the last 2 books; there's so many more examples too. The entire story might be almost unrecognizable due to the longer format.
      No one's taking away the movies from you. This'll just be different and, IMO, has the potential to be better.

    • @hdns4
      @hdns4 Před 4 dny +1

      @@DarrenH001 What makes you think I hold the movies in high esteem? By catching lightning in a bottle twice, I meant finding some decent child actors and then managing to not ruin their lives, which is something that Hollywood has done countless times. Hell, it seems like one of the biggest reasons that it didn't happen with the Harry Potter movies was Chris Columbus's involvement at the start. He reportedly pushed pretty hard to make sure that the kids didn't have their lives disrupted too much. And I don't believe he's ever explicitly said it, but it doesn't take much imagination to conclude that this is likely because of what he saw happen to Macaulay Culkin. I don't have high hopes that a bunch of Warner-Discovery producers will have the same level of care.
      I enjoy the movies, but I couldn't care less about a new adaptation. In fact, that's exactly the problem. I literally don't care about seeing this story adapted the same way again. And a lot of other people clearly share that sentiment. You clearly don't, and that's fine. I hope the series is good and that you enjoy it. For a lot of us though, rebooting a series that ended only thirteen years ago feels like a really pathetic cash grab. And the way I see it, even if it all goes perfectly and it's a good series and they manage to not ruin the lives of a bunch of children, all we get out of it just another live action adaptation. To me, that's simply not worth it.

    • @DarrenH001
      @DarrenH001 Před 4 dny

      @@hdns4 TBF by the time this new series wraps, if it gets that far, it'll be at least 21 years since the films finished, 31 since their debut, likely much more given it's taking HBO 2 years per season for CGI-heavy shows. So it'll be for a whole new generation.
      And hopefully they'll enjoy it just as much as you enjoyed the movies, if not more 😄

    1. I'd heard the story of cursed child sucks anyway.
    2. I wouldn't watch anything nowadays that's a direct adaptation of any of her writing.
    3. Regardless of Rowling there's still a lot of problems with the text itself, i.e. the slavery allegory with house elves and goblins being anti-semetic stereotypes.
    4. The issue at the moment is that it feels like any support of the franchise is directly putting money in a very vocal transphobe's pocket, and the solution to that is not to make her one of the richest people on the planet. That money comes from what WB thinks they will make of the franchise, its technically just an upfront payment.
    I feel the only way I could ever return to the franchise is if she were to give it away for free, which is obviously never going to happen and probably shouldn't.
