Voting for the Worst of Woke Awards for last year was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. In almost every category, it was impossible to choose which turd was the worst. I tip my hat to the despot in accomplishing such a gargantuan task.

As a historian, the Cleopatra miniseries really hurt my heart. They could've made it into something great. Do people really believe Egyptians were black? We have the dna from their mummies. They were not black. 🤦🏻♀️

I agree with you on the main points, however, it is known for a very long time (not just 20 years) that Cleopatra was from the Ptolemaic dynasty, the heirs of Alexander the Great's bodyguard who was Macedonian-Greek. Also they were incestuous, so it was impossible for Cleopatra to have even a hint of DNA from a black person. We don't need DNA-tests to deduce that she was not black, historical facts and logical thinking suffice. Also, there have been black Egyptians and even rulers of Egypt, not in the Ptolemaic dynasty though. So, please, don't call yourself a historian.

I’ve been stuck like this since I made a completely normal and inoffensive comment mentioning the news stories at the time about tunnels being found that were dug by a certain group of people in New York (I dare not mention their name or my comment will probably be removed). Love the Carl Weathers tribute. I;ve heard a lot of black people say he was a great inspiration for black men everywhere and while I understand that it wasn't just black men he inspired, it was all men. The words "there is no tomorrow" is amazing. He had such range past the cheesy 80s action hero, and I'd argue he outshines Stallone consistently in the Rocky movies.

Yes, we as adults are completely fed up with all of this and want films and TV with substance, but the purest expression of how far entertainment has fallen is how my kids have reacted. I have two boys, 10 and 12, who were massive fans of Star Wars, Marvel, Indiana Jones, and classic Disney. I tried to take them to the theater last year to see some of these, or watch the streaming shows and they simply refused. They have no political axe to grind and are just looking for decent entertainment. They now have zero interest in any of these franchises, and if that isn’t the most direct example of market forces and the rational consumer, I don’t know what is.
On a positive note, we probably watched T2, Rocky, and Jaws three times each last year. That’s what they choose.

Indiana Jones was so painful. Being sent to the past to live out his final years was such a beautiful way to end a legendary character's story. Experience the history that he had been studying for his long and exciting life. And even that couldn't be allowed.
It was basically a final fuck you for older fans of the franchise, or any other old property in general, that they going to continue to destroy them, and we won't going to do anything about it, including turning our eyes away because we'll be forced the destruction of everything we loved and cared about down our throats.

As someone who loves the Napoleonic era, the Napoleon movie wasn’t just bad, it was heartbreaking.
Made Napoleon boring and unlikeable. The battles were wrong and terrible. Instead of musket warfare and tactics, we got medieval charges and hand to hand chaos. Just stupid.
Napoleon waving his arms around giving orders. When in reality battlefields were kilometers wide. He would be looking at maps and giving written orders.
Napoleon wasn’t a cavalry commander, he was an artillery officer. So him leading charges on horseback was laughable. He was notoriously a bad horse rider.
None of his marshals were even mentioned. Their importance in all the battles just ignored.
Josephine was older than Napoleon. But we got a 50 year old married to a 20 something.
Just bad. I could go on, but I won’t. He could have done something great with that movie. But instead decided to make a hit piece.
Maybe the Spielberg series will make it right.

I think the feeling I got from the movie was like reading a textbook in fifth grade and trying to put that to screen. When you’re a kid just learning basic points for the weekly quiz and nothing else, and falling asleep a few times. “Oh he rode horses” while falling asleep and missing the “he was bad at them” part. It’s amazing how little passion is in the movie with its production.
