    Shoresy season 3 is the best season of a sports show Ive ever seen. That passion for hockey and dedication to comedy marries perfectly because of how good a writer Keeso is. My favorite part of Shoresy is that the characters dont change, because people dont really change. But they evolve. Hes still dogging on Ziig in the last episode for getting a ticket, but hes evovled it into being a closer connection while still insulting each other. When Shoresly tells Nat that hes so fucking mad at her, I teared up.

    Excellent comment about how peoples passions are entrancing. I used to finish work and there was a section of a radio show called movies and wine with reviewers of both. I dont even like wine but the wine reviewers were so in love and dedicated to wine i loved listening them describe wine with real passion.

    Beautiful breakdown on both shows and completely spot on. "Shoresy" is Kesso's love letter to hockey and it's so pure.

    I have to confess that I've never seen even one minute of "Friday Night Lights", so I may be talking out of my hindquarters, but "Shoresy" transformed into simply one of THE best series about pro sports ever made. It includes all the dumb and ugly stuff, but when confronted with the end of his on-ice career, and asked what he'll miss most, he replies "the room". "The room" is the sense of team cameraderie, hope, enthusiasm, possibilities, and simply love for each other that teams can have before a game, especially an important one. And the scenes in "the room" are often the heart and soul of the show, and the segments where things get serious, in the best possible way. One has to look past the XXX-rated parrot, the slo-mo puck-bunnies in their underwear, the jabs at, and caricatures of, other provinces, and the "Newhart" steal of "the 3 Jims" (how do they always know which one's first?), to see there's a heart underneath, emerging slowly, carefully, anxiously.

  • @King-Kazma
    @King-Kazma Před 10 dny +2

    Shoresy plays with the conventions of storytelling too. It is a series of loops. Everything that happens in life is the build up to a game, after which there is a moment of quiet clarity. This structure is reinforced by the call backs and repetition of lines.
    Hockey is everything. All that troubles you is erased for a moment. That moment can stretch to days if you win. But win or lose, anything that happens next is just a placeholder until the following game.
    Even the seasons play outside the rules. They defy the ‘second act finds the characters at their lowest’ cliche. They start at the lowest point and then build and build. Even season 3, where I would argue that the opening scene in the locker room was the lowest point. Shoresy’s fate was already inevitable 2.5 seasons before his injury. The injury was the intervention that let him accept his fate. He does not score in the final game. No one last personal glory. Just coasting in to land with no clear future ahead.

    Jared Keeso is so genuinely funny, I got legit mad that Shoresy only has six 20-25 minutes episodes. Lol. I watched that show before Letterkenny and didn't know the lore behind how it all came to be. Super funny shows if you enjoy dry, sh*t talking humor. ... Oliver Platt and his line: "it's dystopian butter" had me dying. Lol. I'll never understand how actors can keep a straight face when saying things like that.

    Will likely watch the Bear now based on this, at least give it a chance. But for Shoresy, as a long life hockey fan, nothing touches how incredible this show is to honor the sport or how well it is written.
    Prediction spoiler, Keeso is going to be the new Cherry.

      You know, I thought about including that. I watched Keeso in the Don Cherry movie (he was great) and at one point he even says to Nat "Keep your head up, kid." but i didn't want to get too niche in the video. But yeah, I totally agree. Can't wait to see more.

I can point to a bunch of hockey things cherry covered I expect keeso to in the near future. I'm not going to do it but I know it's coming, especially after this season. And I'm excited for it.

    Shoresy > The Bear. I've seen up to the 2nd episode of the newest season of the Bear and it's good, but holy shit, the anxiety. It is stressful to watch. I could watch all 3 seasons of Shoresy on repeat.

    I watched shorsey before letter Kenny, which I think, made the shorsey parts (in letterkenny) even funnier to me. Love both of these shows. But shorsey killed me, I'm trying to get everyone I know to watch it.

    A great comparison of two of my favourite shows! Season 2 of The Bear had 3 of the best episodes of television I've ever watched: Honeydew, Fishes, and Forks.
    Last night our podcast reviewed our favourite all time episode of Shoresy, S3E4: Brooks Barrelmen. Spot-on analysis on both!

  • @twintippedweez
    @twintippedweez Před měsícem +5

    Maybe a clue into why I enjoy both shows is pointed out here and I just wasn't thinking deep enough. Good comparison, great shows.
    S3 of The Bear still had all the same great elements as the first 2 but to me it felt a little hollow. Very few scenes with all characters together. Little main plot movement. Frustrating to me especially was wasting what felt like huge chunks of the final episode spent on listening to real world chefs (much respect) just gab aimlessly about why they love food so much. "My favorite part is the chewing" COME ON move the plot! Still a great show and S3 had some solid character development. "Napkins" FTW.
    Shorsey is one of the funniest shows in recent memory for me and I can't believe how confidently Keeso and crew were able to switch gears coming off of Letterkenny(which I also love and will admit is not for everyone). I get the sense that this show will have a well planned ending in 4 maybe 5 seasons vs Letterkenny which definitely grew a bit stale by the end.

    How Shorsey is nominated for an Emmy for Comedy or Keeso not nominated for anything is appalling. Anytime I need a boost of feel good I watch the last part of either episode 6 in Season 2 or 3. Also the opening of S1:4. If you can't win, don't play.

    I don’t get ‘Love’ at all from Carmy in the Bear. Him being a chef has made his life horrible and all his chef-related decisions keep making his life worse.
    It seems like Carmy is a chef because he hates himself, not because he loves cooking.

    • @ryan_alexander

      I do not think it‘s what he does, it‘s more how he does it that his life is worse through it. His mother showed „affection“ through food, even though he did it transactional, he associates it with love. That‘s maybe part of the reason why he loves that expression of kindness.
