  • Hello Shiny Crafty People and welcome back!
Today I'm turning an old tie into a case for glasses or sunglasses! Not only can you use the case to store glasses, but the soft material is good for cleaning the glasses too!

Just made another one and machine sewed everything - no hand sewing! First thing I did was secure the mesh-like filler (?) at the bottom, like you did. Then I opened the side flaps and sewed 2 pieces of velcro on opposite sides of where the center seam would go about 2" down from the short inside V. They came out rather askew (still works) so I'll have to work on that. In any case, everything was machine sewed and went quickly. Made a lens wipe with the same material 6" x 5" and pinked the edges. I folded this and tucked it under label. Shows nicely! Again, thanks for the wonderful idea, Timothy!

I like this idea. I'm thinking making stocking stuffers with grandpa's ties that I have held on to since he passed to give to the older grandkids.

Love this! I'd find it easier to hand sew the velcro square by putting a 2-3" wide ruler or piece of template plastic in the case first. Then you couldn't go all the way through without worrying. You could also insert some batting under the white square to give the glasses some protection when tossed in a bag or purse.

Lve this, I still have my late husbands ties, going to add a decorative button on the top to hide the stitching.

I enjoy your videos so much. I have made crazy patch pillows out of ties. It is especially nice if you can use a tie as a remembrance of someone. ❤

Nice project. Since we're on the subject of neckties, I'm wondering, can you do a video on how to make the neckties that you would see at a craft fair that are long and skinny that have some sort of beads that you submerse in water and the whole tie expands. You wear around your neck to keep cool. Just a thought for a future project since some states are dealing with sweltering heat.

Hello, Timothy. Thank you for making this video. Just finished my first tie glass case. Made the same mistakes you did - DUH. Should have watched the video in full, first! Anyway, it came out very nice. On my next one, I'll figure out how to complete it with no hand sewing. May have to sew in the soft middle velcro in two parts before stitching the long seam, but that shouldn't be a problem. I cut a 4" wide tie 12-1/2" long from the pointed tip. The finished measurement came out to be a total length of 8". Fits a large pair of sunglasses perfectly. Looked rather plain, so I tacked the original label to the center of the folded "V." Now you can see the brand and that it is handmade in silk. Love it...thanks again!

Could you use the adhesive hook and loop?
