    Nice! These are some of my favorite techniques as well. I like how you "flowed" the Number 2 (arm bar) into a kotegaeshi. I feel that Number 2 also flows well into Number 3 if uke resists the arm bar by bending his elbow. Love your show. Keep it up.

    Ondrej nage is actually similar to ude-garami nage (arm wrap throw). If you let uke drop to the ground, and as you feel his weight come off your arm, you can lift him, and he will turn to his back due to momentum, allowing you to lock him like the second lock used in nikkyo ura. Please keep experimenting as everyone needs their own style of fighting. Besides, it helps you improvise in untrained situations 👍

    I go to Aikido classes once a week I should do it twice a week but college got in the way but anyway I always try to bring a new technique into my class and my Aikido now for one month I focus on a specific technique or a specific set of techniques like my class next week I'll be doing Aikido from the clinch and this month I was doing finger locks it is very fun to look at new techniques and think outside the box. My favorite techniques that I have taken from a different style by far is the suriage and uke nagashi hand deflections from Tenshin Aikido they just open up so much more possibilities to how you can apply your throws and pins in a more practical way.

    In Iwama style we have ara and henka waza, which seems to be what you're talking about here.
    Henka waza are modified basic techniques and ara waza are "crude" as in "uncivilized" techniques, which is to say stuff that aims to do maximum damage (limb destruction and the like.)
    A simple example would be the relatively harmless "scarf throw" can easily become a "neck throw" which, if you hold on to the assailant after thr throw and snap your body in opposition to the way they are falling just as they come to the ground, you can snap the neck under their body weight. So there you have basic, modified, and brutal versions of the same essential technique.
    Personally, I think all aikido schools need to be teaching this stuff. Aikido is dying because we've built a reputation as worthless and ineffective.

    3:14 Not shihonage. This is ude gaeshi in Tomiki aikido, part of the hiji waza (elbow control techniques) which is one of the "basic 17" - the junanahon kata. Similar to shihonage (literally 4 direction throw; but more descriptively tenkai kotegaeshi) in that both have gaeshi - outward turning of the wrist. There are a number of things that one must do to make ude gaeshi effective. Some key points are missing in the demonstration, which would turn this into a battle of strength. Aikido should not depend on strength. Wish I was there to share some ideas with this delightful and positive sensei.

    With Respect,
    The first of these techniques you say you've come up with which you call a thumb lock I have been teaching for years, in both traditional Jiu-Jitsu, and also in the Mental Health Secure units to help control violent patients, and it's actually a wrist lock, as you don't need the thumb to apply it. And all the techniques you have shown in this video, I have been teaching for years and they are included in the International Budo Federation Syllabus, which was written by Sensei Tom Starling 7th Dan Jiu-Jitsu IBF

    I've been doing the last two for a while. The second one can have a second part. You can go on with the armbar and hyperextend the elbow. Then step back and with the left arm put them in a backwards guillotine and lift up. This is bad stuff and should only be used in a life threatening situation.

    • @shihonage
      @shihonage Před 7 lety

      Jose Fuentes Either your ukemi is wrong (you don't know when it's safe to resist), or your school is abusive. Abusive Aikido very much exists. When injury is acceptable as regular part of training and seen as some kind of medal, it's a bad dojo.

    • @JoseFuentes-fn3dl
      @JoseFuentes-fn3dl Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for your reply. The worst moment for me was Shihonage. I don't know what happened. The turn killed my shoulder. We had a new teacher. He didn't really know my resistance. My arm was really tight and no wiggle room at all. I thought for a second my shoulder popped. But afterward I told him respectfully to slow down with me. The other Sensei spoke with him after class. He didn't do it on purpose.

    • @shihonage
      @shihonage Před 7 lety +1

      I had my elbow cranked with shihonage twice, and it hurt for weeks afterwards. It was the fault of both my ukemi, and the nage. But regardless of nage, it can be usually avoided by not resisting that technique. You can resist in the very beginning, but once nage achieves the first movement and gets you stretched, all resistance must be ceased.
      As a nage there's often an instinct to make technique work despite uke's resistance. And when uke resists at that very vulnerable-for-himself point, nage may crank it up anyway, and you get an injury. You have to be selective about where you resist. If in doubt, better to resist lightly or even not at all.

    • @azuspointofview5110
      @azuspointofview5110 Před 7 lety +2

      I have had many injuries over the years and it seems to be unavoidable. Just rest and do not commence training until you are fully recovered.

  • @bAbYkEkONA
    @bAbYkEkONA Před 5 lety +1

    This is basic elementary "Chin Na".. the Chinese art of Seize and Control! The art that gave birth to DaitoRyuAikiJujutsu, from their the term Ju-jutsu arises, The Japanese form of locking, throwing and pinning methods bred 2 schools of thought on Ju-jutsu, they were called Aikido & Judo... Aikido chose not to spar and simply focus on techniques and concepts. Judo chose to specialize in the throwing and sweeping aspects of traditional Ju-jutsu instead of the small joint manipulation methods. Judoka also chose to spar making the system obviously effective where Aikido is extremely questionable as far as effectiveness...
    In Gung fu we have Kuen which are forms and applications, We have Chin Na which are seize and controlling methods and we have Shuai Jiao which is throwing and sweeping methods and also are some of the most vast ancient, in depth and effective techniques that are lost into today's mma era.

I also think that my "aikido" (which I now practice and prefer to call jujutsu) and depending on what style or ryu one practices at, has been well and truly dissed for far too long now... To be honest, I blame the "highly intellectual" hippy hoppy, love and harmony types who've changed it into a cardiovascular health practice...!!! Nothing wrong in doing so, as long as you tell people that, so they have no illusions in thinking that it works for self defence...!!

      I have to contest to your statement, what the Aikidoflow guys do is most certainly Aikido first and foremost. I'm making an assumption on your reasoning on my part, but just because what they're doing looks more hardcore doesn't mean it isn't Aikido, Aikido is not a 'soft' version of Jujitsu. What makes Aikido so different from Jujitsu is the emphasis on entering and off-balancing, this doesn't mean Jujitsu DOESN'T have these aspects, they're just generally done very linearly whereas Aikido applies them with strong emphasis on circle and spiral movements, it's very sophisticated and it means that you don't always have to concentrate as much on power, for example you can turn your body effectively instead of just tightening a lock to stop an unwilling opponent. This is why Azu always says "Aikido gives me choice", watch their other content and you'll see they go into more detail with these principles in other videos.

    Sounds more like JKD or MMA: is it useful? Steal it!

    Aikido does not work in real life situations

      Pretty sure Azu was a bouncer in London and has stated a number of times that he has used Aikido in many of real life situations. In my view styles per say do not fail, people fail under stress to apply the practical applications of what they have learnt. Nothing is fool proof. I can only say that until you have felt the pain that these techniques inflict (and they are very painful even at this nice demo level). Done 100% ,the results on someone not expecting this, or able to take the fall or pin once caught are serious injury (almost guaranteed).
      Unless the rules were changed none of this is "legal" in MMA or tournament martial arts, this is not sport fighting. The idea is to dodge the punches, take control of the arm, wrist or elbow with speed and surprise. This sort of stuff breaks bones (in fact is designed to do so). Azu is also being very nice to his assistant here.

      Depends entirely on how you do it. I would agree that most students don't train in a way that would make it effective, nor do most teachers offer that sort of training, but I would say the same about most martial artists of any style. Very few people anywhere are actually training to be effective fighters.
      We have a lot of military types at my dojo, myself included. One of them summed it up nicely: "Aikido might not be what I take downrange, but it's always the first thing I want to come back to."

    Cant you practice in a dojo or hall, really in the street where i live would bring unwelcome attention.
