Tile Floor Repair After New Tub is Installed

🔷Tile Floor Repair🔷
Remodeling projects are almost never perfect.....
This was ugly 😆
A huge gap between existing floor and new tub
The old delta tub had a very unusual bump out that extend out
It also wasn't very straight
There was only a couple options to fix this:
Remove entire floor and lay new floor tile
Add a border tile along side tub (and hopefully it adds a decorative look 😄)
We went with the least destructive way, add a 4" border tile alongside the tub 👍
To cut this porcelain tile out, I highly recommend buying a high quality grinder blade

I'm also using my favorite cordless grinder - Milwaukee paddle switch grinder - amzn.to/3si3h4F
Use a steady hand & take your time 👍
A wet sponge pressed against blade will keep the dust down
I do not like to do this....but in order to cut the last inch or so of tile in corners of floor, you'll need to remove the grinder guard
This will allow you to plunge cut into wall and cut tile cleanly
Be careful!
If you don't have one of these quick change locking nuts for a grinder, Its well worth the extra money!

To remove cut tiles, you'll need to bust out with a hammer & pry bar
Once tiles are removed, you'll need to remove thinset
Ideally scraped to the surface of Ditra mat or substrate
Easiest way to do that is with a Fein Multitool with scraper 😃

Professional tools make cutting tile a lot easier 👍
Dewalt Wet Saw - amzn.to/47FDx2s
Embed plenty of thinset to substrate (ditra mat)
Apply thinset to border tiles & set
The reason I did this repair now is so the wall tile around tub surround would sit on top of floor
Now we are ready to move on to the rest of tub surround 👍
