I was born in 77 and always Mexico 86 and Italia 90 will hold a special place in my heart as i remember watching them with my old man, god bless him
Yes every saturday without fail flick between swap shop and Tiswas and on the ball, world of sport with the old man.Home cooked fish and chips while the scores come up on the vidi printer.Great days.
I vaguely remember Mexico 86, but Italia 90 was my first World Cup proper. I can remember me and my friends finishing school on that Friday afternoon and rushing home to watch Argentina v Cameroon. Great times.
I was born 77 as well and of course 86-90 were the definitive International tournaments before Euro 96.
Possibly something to do with the disasters of some Euros and no qualification to 94
@@stu8729 Euro 92 with Denmark winning was pretty cool 🇩🇰 😎
Great memories of those world cups. Remember going to the local record shop and buying the ITV theme tune single for Italia 90 on 45". Great days!
Proper football and proper football programme. I would trade what we have now for this any day.
Same here.
You are right there mate!!
Back in the days when football and footballers didn't take themselves so seriously with a huge superiority complex.
What an awesome show. Exactly how a football show should be with no bloody bullshit.
#SAINTANDGREAVSIE #LEGENDS
I'm sat here, glass of wine in hand, and thought I'd watch a couple of minutes of this for the memories...ended up watching the whole thing without even blinking. Such a great show and a charming double act. This programme is dearly missed (and RIP Saint who recently passed away).
RIP Saint and Greavsie. Thanks for the memories. I wish I had a time machine or some device to allow me to travel back in time………..
RIP Saint 😢 Sad loss.... Get well Greavsie..
RIP Jimmy Greaves now as well. So sad.
Memories..Great theme song. Goosebumps! Currently watching modern football just talking about race and taking a knee...take me back!
Agreed. When politics didn't infect absolutely EVERYTHING from primary schools to sport... and beyond.
I totally agree.
Great football show - shows how much we’ve gone backwards in Quality football TV programmes - no mention of politic, I’d watch this on repeat every week rather than the current shite on offer.
Well said 👍
Too many football shows now. Analyzing the shit out of everything
This is the tournament I fell in love with football.
Same here, it was beyond magic..
Me too. 10 years old. Better late than never.
@@jamesmason8436 ha me too 9 years old 😁
1978 Leeds v Arsenal at elland road started it all for me, 43 years later and now stood on the terraces every week with my son lol..Leeds Leeds Leeds 👍
Surprising, all I remember are 0-0 and 1-0 games, endless back passes and dreadful fouls!
Back when TV and football was fun. God I miss Saint and Greavesie. RIP to them both.
I really forgot how much I enjoyed these two's banter watching this as a kid. R.I.P. Saint.
"Radox in the bath"
Love Jimmy's humour.
Compare this with football focus now. RIP saint and greavsie
Big part of my childhood, watching this pretty much every week.
Blimey, actual personality on a football magazine show. Someone show this to Danny Murphy and Jermaine Jenas.
Not forgetting Lineker
And Dan Walker
@@wendyhill3856 Mr PC himself
I know! Can't be arsed to watch MOTD anymore, seriously! I mean, Jenas as a pundit, didn't even play 300 league games ffs! Bang average player
Gabby yorath
Italia 90 was one of the best World Cups ever, apart from the final which was a disgrace.
It was mediocre beyond belief.
Awful world Cup cynical negative tactics loads.of 0-0's...worst goal per games ratio ..
Best football show ever never missed one
Loved watching this as a kid, but wow, they're both even better than I remember. Don't get enough forthright opinions like Greavsie any more.
Rip Ian St. John
What a show.
RIP boys
1990 World Cup definitely my favourite tournament.. Pavorotti's 'Neesum Dorma' emotional !
Very sad to think they are now both gone RIP Saint & Greavsie
Remember watching this, I was 12. Football was much better then , players then were more down to earth. No social media crap.
Tackles were legal unlike now when players footballers get breathed on and they fall over and roll
Jimmy Greaves fantastic player, the best ever English goal scorer in my opinion and a brilliant down to Earth guy. RIP
I was only 10 at this time but I loved st and greavsie as I was and still am a football obsessive.
Thanks for the uploads. These 2 were pure magic
They sure were mate
Loved this show back in the day, great to see it again and memories of Gazza in semi final, Platts incredible goal in the round of 16 come flooding back.
Great memories as a child. What a world cup that was.
Mexico 86 was great too
What a magnificent pair they were RIP
Thank goodness for You Tube so we have all this.
Geez magic!!! Split my sides laughing 🤣
Luckily I got to watch just about every game!! Magic 👊
Thanks for the memories 👍
Finished summer exams in 5th class Friday 8th June and from 8th June to the final in July 8th it was a feast of football..
I finished my exams that day..and for the next month it was just football and more football, i did miss a match..i came home and watched argentina vs cameroon..
Great programme and a cigar advert. Good old days
Jimmy Greaves was a wonderful footballer and England's most prolific goal scorer . He was a lovely and funny man and showed great determination to overcame his alcoholism . RIP Jimmy and best wishes to all of his supportive family.
Arthur Rowley is the most prolific English goalscorer not Greaves
Five fantastic goals and one by Gary Lineker too.
RIP Saint, thanks for the upload, this was a great tournament, glued to it that summer
That Hamlet commercial is legendary and hilarious. Remember it so well back in the late 1980s and very much part of 1990 on ITV showcasing the iconic Saint and Greavsie World Cup show. 30+ years later and family members and old school friends now gone. Life is bittersweet, live it to the full.
Brings back memories :)
Loved it at the time
These were the days
My 1st memories of watching football and becoming a teenager
Use 2 luv watching saint&greavsie nothing like it nowadays
Great Show loved it miss all these guys proper football people.
Westend,
Thanks for this World Cup special with Saint and Greavsie. Good previews of matches-brings back memories of tournament excitement
and anticipation!
Get well soon Greavsie!
Proper nostalgia. I even remember some of the adverts.
I remember all these. Great to see these uploaded.
"There are goalkeepers who would give their right arms to have 50 caps..."
Dear oh dear, that is a genuinely hilarious gaffe. 😂
Jackie's army..ole ole ole (I know it's spanish) but a truly great WC and fond memories!
Genius move leaving the advertisements in during the break. I was working fir a Dutch firm in Milan at the time and had tickets for some of the games at the San Siro
R.I.P , the good ol days..
Brilliant takes me back to my high school days. You even kept the adverts in. Keep them coming. Thanks.
Proper old school adverts. Happiness is a cigar named Hamlet.
Italia '90 was the first World Cup I ever watched on TV. I was three years old.
I was born 1954 soo 1966 holds dear memories for me
RIP Saint, 2 extremely talented individuals. Saint was a first class tv presenter.
Saint was an excellent broadcaster
Great times
Loved saint (rip) and greavsie. True football royalty.
That Cameroon tackle on that Argentine with the boot flying off was a good one.
WHACK! Well knocked out
Lol "Clive is Welsh of course. I don't know who after." Love it! RIP Jimmy
So sad to think the great SAINT AND GREAVES are no longer with us, R I P JIMMY GREAVES. Sept 2021😎🇬🇧🇬🇧🙏❤
Brilliant must watch show when I was younger. Both class presenters and personalities. Also they never went on about their own careers every five minutes like lineker shearer and Wright.
So much so that at the time when i was a young kid i didnt even know these 2 were footballers lol
Alan shearer can’t even string a sentence together lol, it’s like watching a robot 🤖 Zero personality, absolutely rubbish now is match of the day 🥱
Memories !!!
I went on the Big Iveco Fiat Orange Buses For Coaches in Italy for Touring Around As Well
I loved all the talk about inept Scottish goalkeepers, with it being denied, I seem to recall Jim Leighton having a howler against Costa Rica.
Parried out the shot in the Brazil game 😩
Shilton never saved a decent shot for us in the 3 tournaments I watched him in. Most overrated keeper I ever seen
@@baslongstaff1819 always thought that. He seemed to dive in slow motion 😂😂
Andy Goram was a bloody good goalkeeper. A bit crazy but very, very capable
@@mattylamb9194 Goram was very sound
God bless you both. Rest in peace boys.
One thing that doesn't happen now is the holders of the World Cup don't qualify automatically for the next tournament only the hosts. I don't really agree with that because the holders should be able to defend the trophy. If they don't qualify they don't get that chance. Mind you I suppose if they aren't good enough to qualify they don't deserve to defend it.
Andy clohessy it’s because the WC winners were just playing friendlies during qualifying and they said it wasn’t good for them.
Good old Gary newbon remember him on central news sport
I’ve been To Italy before for a 2 Week Holiday / I stayed in Venice & Rome where I been to both.
I wanted Always to go To Torino to see the Fiat / Alfa Romeo / Lancia Car Factories and I wanted to visit the Iveco Fiat OM UNIC Factories in Bolzano Italy As Well.
I’ve Always Wanted to visit Sicily As well but we didn’t get enough time to do it but next time i will
When you could have a laugh on a football show without the fear of having your life ruined by having a joke (having a personality) about other teams! The itv theme tune to this world Cup was incredible, brings it all back!
Yeah now it's all professional, cannot say anything today or media will kick off. Imagine this today , they will be calling for their heads
@@gmain1977 and they would get them too, in a heart beat. The world is a shit place nowadays. To be happy I turn off the telly and focus on my family and try to live a life from days gone by

Last World Cup before the pass back rule came into play
Bryan Robson! Fit and raring to go, injured and out of the tournament after game 2 against the Dutch. Arguably England played better without their captain!
Juan Moorechants Bryan Robson was well overated.
@@grahamd5418 did you actually see him play throughout the 80s?
Total nonsense..Robson s loss meant that they lost a player.who would have guarded the midfield better anyone..Struggled against Belgium and Cameroon with out him
@@grahamd5418 No Fucking way was He Fella .
@@grahamd5418 no he was very good player
Jimmy and the saint both gone, rip lads
When football was football and not box ticking shite that it is today.
Loved the Saint
I ❤ Italia 90 I Didn’t Know Ian St John & Jimmy Greaves did On The Ball and Italia 90 Plus I got 2 Videos of them 1 Called it’s a Funny Old Game & Top League Striker with Ian St John & Jimmy Greaves.
I Thought they did Just St & Greaves Etc.
I got the St & Greavsie DVD Quiz Game at home As Well
R.I.P. JIMMY GREAVES. GREAVIE & SAINT REUNITED .
Saint & Greavsie are ahead of their time social distancing 😅
happier times
Some goal from Paul Rideout
Absofuckinlutely
"the old roonies" 😂
The final between Argentina and Germany was absolutely atrocious.
greavsie...imagine his craic on the money shenanningans nowadays
Rip lads
football , before it ended ; champs lge / prem lge =game over
At least you get ripped off during tournaments only, unlike here in the uk where you are ripped off everyday
Joined the army when this started, Gazzas 😭 really hurt us all, I won’t repeat the language
Studio presenters social distancing 30 years before it became the norm
Remembering watching this game with my dad after being told off and grounded for getting caught drinking the night before with my mates. I was twelve and in the shit but Argentina getting beaten brightened a shitty day.
*Argentina vs Cameroon
Happy days!
Wonder which was the better goal. Lineker's tap in V Poland or Maradona's. Tough call.
To me , it was Lineker......Back in the days when he did his talking ON the pitch...........His talking off the pitch.......🤐 not so good
Decent tackles ... not the pansy tackles of today ..
Comes on with jigsaw lolll. SAW 1...WELL in Greavsieeee
R i p saint ynwa
Having trouble getting through for that goals competition 😕
Yeah, lines must be very busy?
Anyway I'm going for A,B,F as my selection, fingers crossed I get through 😉
I think it's 0345 now...
Gary Newbon Tosspot
Had Cameroon lost to Argentina, then we’d have played Diego in the quarter finals again.
Gosh, I remember what happened to Swindon Town at the end of the show. HMRC ruining football (and frankly everything... they eat baby unicorns)
Nice to see them socially distancing
Greavesy made the Saw series, his doll shows.
"Saint, it's a funny old...," something or other. What was it again?
Ah yes.. back in the day when you could interview a captain without him being glued to the floor in front of a Sponsors billboard with a thousand brand logos.
