- This obscure vehicle has been hiding in The Empire Strikes Back under our noses from the very beginning. Unfortunately, this awesome little vehicle has only gotten minimal recognition. Time to change that!

In all honesty, it takes serious bravery to go up against a huge barrage of AT-ATs in what is basically just a weaponized snowmobile...
Star Toyota Wars
I mean, when your back is against the ice-wall, you’ll throw anything at anyone to survive
I don't think that the rebels new what the emperials were going to attack with1
Don't forget they went against AT-AT's with basically modified cargo pullers with the Snowspeeders.
There are weirder things to weaponize and take into battle. Ever seen a Bloblobber?
Bro I saw this thumbnail and went "oh that's the Lego set" and you open with it. My childhood is paying off.
EXACTLY!!!
Same
My dad had one i broke it to get more parts
It was my first Lego set…
Same this was one of my first lego star wars sets
Empire: 30m tall behemoths with impenetrable shield technology and some of the most powerful guns on any walker
Rebels: what if santa but make boom boom?
GLA in space be like:
22.5m tall, sorry to be that guy.
@@pepperedash4424 dont be that guy.
@@pepperedash4424 it was probably rounded up for wow effect.
@@thedubstepaddict3675 There's even a line in ESB in which a rebel using a pair of "binoculars" says the AT-AT stands 20-25 meters.
*Starts talking about lego sets right from the start* Oh this is going to be good
Edit: And I was right! Great model, great behind the scenes and a great lore. Overall great job
More like:This is where the fun begins
I’ve been writing this science fiction book for some time now. I need help with ship design. Message me plz!
Now we need to see the Rebel speeder from the 2007 battle pack
I heart literally skips a beat when I see a video of yours because I love them so much.
Exactly what happened when I saw this in recommended
This vehicle which i never saw before connects my long standing head cannon for how Luke got back to his X-wing despite being among the Imperial Walkers when he was shot down- after he destroyed the AT-AT with a grenade in the under carriage he hitched a ride back to the Rebel fall back position on some sort of Starwars version of a Jeep (which surely the Rebels had something like that)
This vehicle fits perfect- its like a Jeep with a Recoilless rifle mounted on the back
as for what the cannons could do- I think the gun has two heavy repeater blasters (starwars equivalent of .50 caliber) and one light Laser Cannon (starwars equivalent of 37mm or 50mm) At best the Snow Jeep could defeat an AT-ST but nothing heavier. the Repeating blasters were extremely effective against infantry and light speeders But not an AT-ST or anything with basic armor.
Snow Jeep should be a repulsor lift vehicles that uses Skies as well because when firing its drive core is entirely used for its cannons (it cannot shoot and move at the same time) also when running it would use the Skies to avoid hitting its frame when going over the snow and when moving at slow speeds
In the name of the Galactic Senate of The Republic, you're under arrest, Chancellor.
The anti tank weapon role in Star Wars is something that we don't exactly see often. The Hailfire droid is really the only screen vehicle that has ever taken on enemy tanks 1 on 1.
Gian police speeder in Episode 1. But that was a lucky overcharge shot from ambush.
There is an anti tank gun style walker seen in Solo used by the Empire. Plus I sort of have viewed the AT-PT seen Revenge of the Sith as an anti tank gun/ light artillery sort of walker.
@@DIEGhostfish That was basically a star wars technical. Putting that big blaster on a truck and calling it a military vehicle.
what about the ones that shot the tanks behind ki adi mundi in order 66? or the juggernaut whose missiles took out some snail tanks.
I guess that is primarily due to Air\Space power and\or the general lack of tanks or really war in general.
Remember, befor the clonewars came 1000 years of peace.
That promotional still of Luke in the Tank is incredible
I mean it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that it started out as an ice cutter and then the rebels either replaced it's laser cutter with an anti vehicle weapon or just realised that it's existing laser-cuter worked well as an anti vehicle weapon since a lot of the rebels vehicles are repurposed civilian equipment anyway
If I were a Rebel defending the base then I'd rather rush to the battle by riding a little armoured gun sled than by running with a rifle through the snow. Not shown in the movie is how slowly people run through deep snow, how often they slip or stumble when trying to move quicker, how quickly the activity depletes their stamina.
@@pwnmeisterage you have a point. These things might have more been about moving troops to the trenches than actually meant to fight walkers.
Alternitively, as a supposed ice cutter, they may have used it to cut out the trenches and then left it on the field as an improvised anti-personel device.
That's actually a really good idea, I like that!
Everytime you bring one of these obscure ships/vehicles fully to life, I keep saying "no @$#%ing way!".
The BTS history of the model, your model, your lore, everything is so freaking awesome!
No
Dear God, he’s doing land vehicles now!!
YES!!!
There has to be a video about the slightly different AT-ST now.
EC Henry: Designs a land vehicle.
Fans: They can drive now?!
The blueprint looks an awful lot like the barge(s) used in the Sarlaac pit scene in ROTJ
I'm sure that's because the design was hardly featured in ESB, they probably liked some aspects of the design so they just recycled it for the sand barges in RoTJ.
It definitely could be Ubrikkian.
@@winstonsmith8482 Kinda like the Hoth AT-ST model vs the Endor one in RotJ.
@@LordVader1094 Hm interesting, that might be something I'm unaware of, what are the differences between them?
@@LordVader1094 i didnt realize those were different? Ill have to look that up
Yoooooo I had that thing holy ....
Forgotten memory. Holy crap. Thank youuuuu:)
Oh gosh, I was wondering if this one was going to be covered someday! Gives me hope for the Hoth ATST variant.
whaaaa
@@donny6033 Yeah. They look pretty similar, but the ones on Hoth had smaller cockpits, longer legs, longer-barreled guns, and some sort of unit insignia on the side. They also had their vision hatches closed.
In an early script draft Luke was supposed to commandeer a cannon. Would that have been one of these, and is that why Mark was in a publicity still with one? Also, could this possibly have been an inspiration for the Kenner toy mini-rig MLC-3 Mobile Laser Canon?
i think that was how he was going to get back to where his X-wing was. It always bothered me that he had to run from where he crashed to where he escaped from Hoth. thats a long way to run when AT-STs are running around shooting everything.
Mogadishu
That lego set slapped
I really like how you can tell that Jabba’s sail barge from “Jedi” was clearly based on the ship. I know I can’t be the only one that sees the resemblance between the two.
I require further explanation.
Jedi starfighters are just A-wings.
I absolutely love these looks at obscure and out of focus technically canon ships and vehicles
Me, reads title: What? Oh wait EC does background stuff
Me 1 second into video: I HAD THAT LEGO SET WHEN I WAS A LITTLE KID!!!!!
ONCE MORE EC HENRY WILL RULE THE GALAXY for 3 minutes until he goes into hibernation for a month. I love your videos.
Man, if only they've shown the taun-tauns pulling these things on film, it would've been like the real wars it's been based on. (towed cannons from revolutionary to modern era wars)
That seems unnecessarily primitive/slapdash together even for the Rebels.
@@ANTSEMUT1 Why? Most landspeeders are ridiculously fast to relegate to hauling this shitty sled around, and tauntauns are ubiquitous on Hoth. Short of carrying it with people (which tbf, is how most artillery trailers work), tauntauns seem like the simplest, and a quite cost-effective solution.
EC Henry Strikes Back with another great work.
How you keep finding these gems never ceases to amaze me,
Great as always. If Disney was smart they'd be hiring you.
But they not smart...
no they wouldn't
Disney is the king of bad decisions!
Money can be saved by copying the work of others, and Disney and Marvel can get away with that unfortunately.
@@pepperedash4424 Marvel is Disney....
Love it! Absolutely incredible modeling, materials, and rendering by you and Angelos, as always!
Thank you man ❤️
you bring life to star wars stuff. you a legend.
You're doing The Force' work. Amazing job, I love these deeper looks at all these these things I've been seeing and at the same time not seeing for years.
Awesome vid! I love obscure pop culture break downs like this!
Yeah now that I look back, i never did know where that lego set came from but i loved it
Star Wars Legion needs this!
I like how lego makes an entire lego set about a background vehicle
Love your videos! I love that you opened with that lego battle pack, I always just assumed it was something lego came up with just to give us a build, never realized it was canon. Also I love the behind the scenes history of this prop, recognizing it as a snow cat trailer is such a cool detail, I love it! Shows how much effort you put into researching this!
Re: "never realized it was cannon.", actually, cannon is what it has, canon is what it is.
@@alonespirit9923 Thanks for the heads up haha
Love your rendering! It's always so crisp and clean
Thanks
It's so good whenever you do a video about something that was in the film that has not been discussed. Can't say that all the times I watched the film that I have ever noticed then before.
I love the digital recreation work. Could you do more obscure vehicles from the Prequels and Sequels?
Wow, this was incredible! A lost Star Wars vehicle I have never heard about or seen before. Great Job.👍🥰🥰🔥🔥
I wouldn't really cll them equivalent to WW2 tank destroyers/field artillery, unless you count the Bren Carrier with a Boyz anti-tank rifle as a Tank Destroyer. Because this thing SCREAMS "upgunned Bren carrier" to me. Actually wait there was a Bren Carrier with a 2pounder, though by the time they got those working the 2pounder could only really kill japanese tanks
Very good points. It's probably more akin to a halftrack, too. Though many halftracks were outfitted as tank destroyers anyway.
@@ECHenry I like to think that from the three guns we see (1 main 2 secondary on top) that is some sort of composite weapons sistem, being that the main gun fires a constant beam of energy (the laser originally designed to cut ice but powered up to military grade use by the rebels as a stopgap gun) and the 2 smaller barrels on top of it actas either rapid firing blaster canons or slower firing light laser canons
Creating a type of light anti-armor plus light anti air platform, that could be either towed around or moved with an small engine (even if it was a little bit slow) or even used as light troop transport via removing the weapons and adding armored rooft and back doors (just like the soviets did with the komsomolets arty tractor , putting a 57mm ZiS-2 (zis-30) or putting a couple of planks so 6 soldiers could ride it)
@@t60-flying95 for me it looks like the guns of an m-15 with the bottom being a 37mm gun and the 2 top ones being 12.7mm guns
I was confused when I saw the thumbnail but then a flood of nostalgia came washing over me as I realized that it was based off of that LEGO set I had as a kid.
SAME!!!
Aw I had this set when I was a kid. nostalgia is a wonderful thing
YEP
One thing I love about Legends is that it included all the behind the scenes creatures and details and makes a story out of them
I've seen that promotional shot of Luke, but I never knew it was actually this vehicle
Hell yeah! A new one!
I wish Disney would use this, and give credit ofc, in a new series like Andor.
Very nice video with a very nice model about a very nice vehicle I've never seen before. Time to watch Empire again.
The way it's positioned between the battlements in the background absolutely reminds me of WW2 tank destroyers. The only thing it needs (to look the part, and in general) is some kind of shield for the gunner
Which could be an energy shield bubble around the drive’s seat. That would give them a wide view and protection from small arms fire.
Amazing! I've been hoping you'd do the Hoth tank for ages and this is even better than I expected. Your videos are the best!
Beware, for no background vehicle/ship is safe from being brought into the limelight by EC Henry.
Great work as always.
I never knew this existed. I have taken my first steps into a world that has always been there....
BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that lego set was my first lego set I ever got (ironically from the gift shop of lego land) glad to see this vehicle get the recognition it deserves
Honestly, it reminds me of the British Army's WWII-era 'Universal Carrier': a lightly-armoured tracked vehicle which was used as a tractor, personnel carrier, ammunition carrier, gun tractor, and also a Self-propelled anti-tank gun (they bolted a 2-pdr gun onto the thing and there was just enough room for the crew and ammunition supply). I believe there were also variants fitted with MGs as primitive IFVs.
I could easily imagine the rebels taking a cargo sled with this basic form and bolting a massive laser/turbo laser onto it for anti-armour duty.
I have always wondered how Lego was inspired to design the vehicle. Thank you for explaining it! It now has a better place in my collection.
Nice video, I always love it when we see some new renders of some background ship or vehicle!
NO WAY!! This was my first Lego set when I was barely able to even build Lego and I have loved Legos ever since.
Something I wish we could've seen in a Battlefront game. It's cool riding tauntauns but they never control very well, and this here is one of the few on screen examples of a proper Rebel ground vehicle.
I remember that Lego Set so well! I remember I was never really sure what it was, but a friend told me it was probably some ice cutter laser thing. I also never understood what the removable gray box piece in the set was, but we assumed it was a battery.
Nerf thing just in-universe explanation for the skis is there are such things as repulser skis. The UT-TA featured primarily in the Revenge of the Sith is the biggest example of that technology in the Starwars universe that we seen on screen.
I like how it also fits perfectly with the WWII-like designs of other star wars vehicles.
Just an idea, but maybe it's both repulsorlift and ski? If it's base task (or a designed feature) was the ability to bore through ice, being able to lift completely is probably unnecessary. (And possibly a hazard in tunnels.) So the skis keep it grounded but still mobile, the repulsorlift makes it effectively a bit lighter and functions as propulsion.
This was my first LEGO set my guy.
You know every time I think I know Star Wars or Star Trek you come around with some absurdly well researched video about the most obscure shit no one would notice but you and make me feel dumb. Good work yet again Henry :)
I actually really like the ice cutter lore. The rebels did a lot of repurposing surplus or civilian equipment, so it fits in universe, but it also harkens back to a lot of the improvised vehicles used in WW2 with artillery pieces and steel plates mounted on agricultural tractors or existing chassis to make impromptu tank destroyers. That Star Wars so heavily draws on WW2 just makes it fit in all the more.
It's the Star Wars equivalent to the M3 Gun Motor Carriage.
It's the Rebel Alliance's version of a Panzerjäger I!
Though somewhat less effective.
Dude, when I was 15 this set was so cool to me. I worked so many part time hours at McDonald’s just to buy these. I know it may seem obsessive but I just like the design (plus mainly to get lots of pilots and rebel Hoth troopers) and I just loved the set so much. Eventually I did stop at 12 of them though. So seeing this is making me want to buy as many that are being resold as possible but I won’t since it’ll be a waste of money in the long run since I have so many already.
In other words, this is my obsession for a few weeks made realistic
Edit: I agree how it looks like a wwii tank destroyer. It reminds me of the tiny Italian l35 the most for some reason.
This is why this channel is awesome, I never would have noticed this vehicle in the background of Hoth, nice catch!
EC Henry
159K subscribers I still feel very very VERY GUILTY for taking apart my LEGO Star Wars Rebel Trooper Battle Pack set, which featured the awesome Rebel Cannon Sled Snow Tank. Oh well..... I really need to stop taking apart every LEGO Star Wars set I buy, because I mainly have no choice but to scavange parts to use in building awesome sci-fi starships such as the Romulan V-11 Stormbird Battle Cruiser (which is a Romulan take on the classic Klingon D-7 Battle Cruiser from Star Trek) and many other famous Movie and TV sci-fi ships.
I love how it's got the same gun as the the tow cable launcher on snow speeder.
EC Henry back at it again i see. Keep it up man!
I just love how watching your videos I get to see details I never noticed myself.
I have a new appreciation for this Lego set. Keep loving these 3D model recreations!
AGREED
The rebellion frequently modified cargo ships and non military vehicles for combat applications. It actually makes sense because they were a literal rebel group. They weren't an established government and all their funding came from private donations from supporters or black market deals. They didn't have a ton of funding and had to make do with what they could get their hands on.
It's generally far cheaper to retrofit existing vehicles and equipment than to purchase new ones.
The "snow speeders" are a perfect example. They were originally civilian airspeeders that the alliance modified with heavier weapons and armor.
This fact about the speeders is canon, not just legends.
Also dialogue in the film tells us they had difficulty adapting the speeders (and likely other equipment as well) to the extreme cold of Hoth, which is why they used Tauntauns.
super cool - I had only ever seen it in the promotional shots with Luke in flight gear but had no idea it actually DID make it into the film. Even in the background, it counts! Such a cool little vehicle, maybe we'll get a proper toy of it someday.
No!?!? That Lego set I got all those years ago, just for the cool looking Rebel snow troopers so I had something to use against my Imperial snowtroopers, was actually based on an actual set piece vehicle? And I dismantled it for spares?!?! Well, I know what my weekend has just become: find those instructions and rebuild the Cannonsled!
A highly interesting video. I love the fact that the Lego version is more well known than the real thing.
I’ll always say this - practical effects are better than CGI.
That’s the first LEGO set I ever had! My childhood is validated.
this is peak star wars for me
I still have that set in my apt. After all these years I now learn what it was.
I HAD THAT LEGO SET AND MADE STOP MOTION WITH IT, thanks for the nostalgia
So cool. Your channel does more to get me excited about Star Wars than anything Disney can muster.
If it's day job is melting through ice, that explains the high rounded bulkhead at the front. It's a breakwater to divert all that warm meltwater.
Oh cool! TDs were a favorite topic/model when I was in to WW2 armor.
Star Wars merchandising was infamous for using EVERYTHING and EVERY CHARACTER that was on screen ever and at all. Unfortunately, some small vehicles, which would be handy for selling smaller sets, did get lost then and over time.
Thanks for the sleuthing, man.
Jingle bells, Jingle bells
Jingle all the way.
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a turbolaser sleigh!
2:31 That’s not a tank destroyer, that’s a self-propelled howitzer. There’s no way in hell you could make direct-fire precision shots on tanks with that thing.
its a lorraine schlepper and yes while it was a SPH on paper, the germans used it mostly in the direct fire role according to the reports by the units that used them.
the reason you wouldn't use it against tanks is it lacked a anti-tank shell, it was only ever issued HE and smoke shells. the gun was more accurate than similar weapons the germans used against tanks on other mounts and dismounted, however, that were quite effective against tanks so i don't see why it would be 'too inaccurate'.
I think you have taken arcadey computer games like WoT too seriously.
I have like a million of those Lego sets it's so cool to see they were actually present in the film... kinda
I love this one man.. I have this Lego set since childhood and always liked the idea and shape of it. I had no idea this thing is actually canon and appeared in thhe movie but to me it always was canon. Thank u.
Bro, how did I literally never know this!? I've seen that battle pack for years and years, and always just thought it was a Lego original design holy shit.
I loved that LEGO set when I was really young :D
Any plans for a follow-up on the Ubese video? As the Leia Bounty Hunter skin was added to Battlefront II, together with Boushh-esque translations of her usual voice lines, maybe that helps to fill in some more grammar gaps? :)
Love your videos, the attention to obscure details is peak geekdom!
That model is really good. Looks like a real object.
hell yes. this is exactly what i love about this channel
The amount of detail on your models always impresses me. I wish I could be half as good at 3D modeling as you.
Also, if you had the opportunity to completely redesign a ship that already exists in some sci-fi universe, what would it be and why?
Also also, just a fanboy's request; I'd love to see you redesign/remodel/rework/re-whatever the Yamato from Space Battleship Yamato into something that you think would fit better.
I love how much light you shed on small background details!! It’s amazing how much there remains to be seen in-depth the expansive Star Wars universe!
incredible
I love your videos so much!
this is amazing quality thank you for this!
God, this thing trully exists !
I like the "Episode II" featuring on the blueprints :p !
These are actually pretty similar to some early war Soviet vehicles like the SU-5-1 and ZiS-30, which were crude armored tractors of similar shape with anti-tank guns mounted on the rear to be fired by an exterior crew.
Notification squad!!!
The design of this vehicule is a mix betwen a tank destroyer and a bouvet class battleship
Thanks for all these creations of obscure ships !
Wow! Ok now I want to see this vehicle in more places. This reminds me of how the Lego Resistance battlepack has a vehicle that is clearly the Gian-211 patrol speeder from the force awakens! I wonder if there could be a version that is equipped with repulsorlifts, and another version with the skis. Like how the TX-225 occupier tank has tracked & hover variants
I got that lego set when I was like 5 great to see you breakdown the vehicle here!
