Watching a grown woman have beef with a literal baby duck is so funny. Get her ass.
Haha…
Get her ass…
Because we’re butt lovers on the AthenaP channel?
I’ll be here all night
Only Athena would have the balls to do that 🤣

A fictional baby duck at that! Nonetheless funny and relatable.
Athena is also the same woman who created the image of herself angrily double flipping off the camera with the caption, "I'm gonna cyberbully a fictional child," so this shouldn't surprise us at all lol.
I remember when the Wonder Pets spoke to the audience in "Save the What?", and Ming Ming says "Nice haircut!" Now, when i was little and watching this episode for the first time, I had just gotten a haircut a few days prior, and I was so excited that she recognized that I called my mom to let her know

Each episode is technically an opera, specifically an opera buffa. When the dialog is sung it Iis recicativ. The episodes have arias to express their own thoughts. They have trios and duets. And when you bring the conflict into it and looks more like an opera. Ming ming is the diva soprano, Lenny would be a heroic dramatic tenor, and Tuck would be a lyric baritone.
That's so cool omg, it makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing!!
There's an episode where it was basically the pets' day off. Ming Ming decided that wasn't good enough for her and she idiotically went to save a squirrel on her own, getting caught on tree sap and forcing the other two to spend their day off to rescue her.

Why do I have a feeling Charlie and Lola will be somewhere in this series sometime in the future
Charlie and Lola were probably my favourite show as a kid and maybe the first I have a memory of watching. Also Lola and Ming Ming are so similar.
When I was a little kid, I was obsessed with this show, and my family and I ended up giving each other nicknames from the show. I was Linny, Dad was Tuck, and Mom was Ming-Ming. We STILL quote this show on a daily basis and I admittedly still adore it.
Omg. I kinda did the same thing with my parents as a kid, but I decided that my dad was Tuck, like you did, my mom was Linny, and I was Ming Ming! Aaaah! That’s crazy! But I guess great minds think alike!
I loved this show as a kid, I actually had a Ming Ming toy that wouldn't stop singing. For your next deep dive, I suggest Blues Clues, Ni Hao Ki Lan, Octonauts, Bear in the Big Blue House, Jungle Junction, and honestly anything on Disney Junior in like 2010 lol
Jungle Junction?! I thought that was a fever dream I had…
Octonauts and Jake and the neverland pirates were an experience
She already did Jungle Junction
i need an octonauts vid
Octonauts is still one of my favorite kid shows, and I adore blues clues, those would be great ones to cover! Honestly forgot bear in the big blue house existed until you mentioned it, now the song is in my head
Core memory: I loved whales and this show, so my parents looked ahead at the run times and any time the whale episode came on they'd make a holiday out of it and I'd watch it with all my whale toys, have (re-used, but still cool) whale themed decorations and whale themed food. God that was the life.

A theory that I think could be true is that their adventures are just stories that are told by the teacher to the students, and this is why there are moments that are just completely impossible, and why the stories always coincide with things the students learn.
That would also explain the title cards, as most preschoolers can’t write, but all teachers can.
I always thought it was made up stories by the students

Bluey is a modern cartoon that heavily leans into its use of music! Not so much in terms of singing, but the background music is unique for every episode and often borrows from classical music while also mixing in original compositions. It's wonderful!
You dont understand how much i worried for Ming-Ming when she got stuck in a tuba
my family feverishly denies this, but this show is what originated the name for my little brother. that day, i was at my mother's parents' house and watching nickelodeon, and this show, which was one of my favorites at the time. i watched the "save the griffin" episode and was introduced to what a griffin was, helped by the song. when i got home that day, my mom was very pregnant, like i'd say a month or less from birth, and that's when i decided to mention the name "griffin" for my brother's name. i sang the song that described what a griffin was, and the "oh wow"s came out and then that was about it. after that day, my parents started considering the name, and that's what his birth name is. i always tell how i decided the name, and they deny it very hard, but they can't find where they would have came up with the name. this show has inadvertantly named at least one person.
Aww!
My little brother is stuck with the nickname Oobi because of my fascination with the show. People use it more than his real name
I always forget that “what’s gonna work? Teeaamwork,” isn’t just a song that everyone knows and had sung when doing chores.
My family had ducks once, our favorite was named Ming Ming.
When landlines were still used and we heard ringing throughout the house, more often than not at least one person would sing “the phone, the phone is ringing.” If it wasn’t followed up by someone else, they do it themself. God I love this show.
Also, side note, celery is one of if not my favorite vegetable. It always has been, as a toddler I’d walk around holding full sticks of celery and carrots, just munching as I walked and singing my own alphabet songs to myself.
Lol, I had the exact same experiences with those songs! I'm sure me and my brother annoyed my parents to death with the phone XD
Why did I read landlines as landmines 😭
Holy crap i love Ducks there so cute
SAME !! I was obsessed with celery cause of this show!!! Also my friends and i from elementary school would sing the wonder pets song when we did a group project
I'm more of a cucumber fan myself but I also completely forgot “what’s gonna work? Teamwork” was even in a show until today.
This show was my JAM when I was a kid. I grew up raising and owning guinea pigs so the fact it featured one, automatically made it a banger show imo. My favorite episode is the one with the dinosaurs, as I absolutely loved dinosaurs as a kid, my second favorite was the one with the unicorn. I can still sing the theme song to this day, oh man the memories.
Wow. For me, however, it was one of my first introductions to the existence of guinea pigs, so I initially thought Linny was a hamster. At the time, I also didn't realise how much larger adult guinea pigs are in comparison to adult hamsters.
I'm so glad I'm not alone in being a Linny stan while simultaneously hating celery
"They play a tiny game of dress up as if an animal isn't about to meet god" caught me SO off guard 🤣

@@juliusvelasco4789I legit thought Edna Mode was a boy, but knew Linny was a girl. I think there's just something wrong with me then-
Love that tuck shows up on the doorstep WITH his hat. ig his previous owners cared about him enough to give him that but not enough to keep him
Linny had to deal with so much shit I thought she was Ming Ming and Tuck's adoptive mother (I also had a terrible relationship with my brother at that age, so them being siblings was consistent with my conception of the world)
Ming Ming and Tuck hating each other but putting up with the other so they can hang with Linny really is some reality tv dynamic.
Also you always go above and beyond with your makeup for these videos, but I love that you also went out and bought celery for this one haha. Big Celery is too powerful with Linny as their spokesperson.
Here’s a theory on Ollie, he’s clearly a domesticated bunny and was shown in the classroom as a sort of class pet, what if after that episode his owner decided to dump him outside in the wild because they couldn’t take care of him anymore? What if his family were also dumped and lived near the school just because they knew the wonder pets are there thus they would be safe? Surprisingly abandoning bunnies isn’t that uncommon
NOOOOOOOO!
Good theory, but it makes me want to cry for those poor fuzz friends :(
23:12 FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT *NOAH CYRUS* VOICING PONYO IS KINDA ABSURD
The whole thing with Ming Ming is just classic narcissism. Nothing is ever her fault, she's great, anyone who criticizes her is either mean or crazy, and no matter how often they say they will, THEY NEVER CHANGE. A valuable lesson for kids to learn that people like that are to be avoided.

When you brought up the use of the celery and said "Chokehold" I thought you might say about what happened after the first episode aired.
I was a designer on this show in the mid 2000s. When it was finally the day that the show aired, we were all excited and hoping for Great feedback.
Well...the first messages we saw on IMDB were from mothers who were furious that Linny was eating celery. Why? Celery is very easy for a Guinea pig to choke on.

I think the style of the Wonder Pets hound dog 24:56 is referencing the RCA Victor mascot dog Nipper. This cartoon dog seems relatively similar to the dog in the show (Nipper merchandise created also illustrates the eyes very similarly) and would be seen on the labels of vinyl records themselves, including pressings of Elvis songs. This idea is especially supported by the fact that stacks of vinyl are featured in the back of the clip you showed- going along with the theory of the pets imagining their activities based on lessons given in school, the pets may have theoretically seen/been spoken to by the kids (who love animals!) about this animal on the records and imagined it for their story. :)

Now that you mentioned it, it does seem like at least the adults know about the wonder pets and the animal society. I mean, the teacher just HAD to know about Linny visiting her grandma or how else would she be able to tell that kid she would return to the classroom the next day with such certainty, and it would explain why the pets are always left alone during breaks, they have to know they're able to care for themselves.
Also, this show encouraged me to try celery and I ended up hating it too 😂

I think the wonder pets adventures are stories that the teachers make up the next day as a circle time activity! 7:59 can we just talk about how fucking funny that screenshot is though
one of my most potent single-sentence childhood memories comes from an episode of this show. tuck and ming ming are in a really bad fight and ask linny to resolve it and she goes “i can’t! i’m about to go over a waterfall with a platypus” in the most dora the explorer delivery possible and i think about that every day

"Ollie Ollie Ollie to the rescue." Lives in my head rent free.
Ming-Ming always says THIS IT'S SERIOUS!
I think the reason so many kids shows during the 2000s were music centric was because of a sort of new age belief back then that listening to music makes kids smart which is why we had stuff like Baby Einsteins being sold as a magic tape that makes your baby a genius and preschools always showing Raffi doing his thing singing about whales
Honestly they should have more of that regardless
@@teslaphilipson2406 Yeah, Coco Melon just isn't the same.

I was genuinely surprised at how well the show looks, the only other show that I can think of off the top of my head that pulled it off well was Madoka Magica, specifically for the witches and labyrinths, and those are meant to be surreal, creepy, and unnerving
Yes! The mixed media animation is probably one of the best parts of Madoka Magica, especially the photo puppetry!
Did not expect Madoka Magica to be reference in the comment section of a Wonder Pets videos
I can't wait for a Wonder Pets/Madoka Magica crossover where the Wonder Pets defeat the evil cat creature and fix everything.
The only other one I can think of is like, a couple second clip of a fan made TMA animation that uses magazine collages
This reminds me that in the past I watch that anime just to see those terrifying moments. I even compared it to some other mindfucks musical movies.
Add: And even till this day I want to see a crossover between Madoka Magica and Yellow Submarine.
When I was in 7th grade we had a combined chemistry lab with one of the other chemistry teacher's classes and at one point my teacher sang out "Whats gonna work?" And collectively with no prep almost all of the students responded "Teeeeeeam Work" and the other teacher started laughing so hard from surprise she had to step out for a minute. It still makes me giggle when I think about it
Same here! In seventh grade the phone rang and I sang “the phone, the phone is ringing” and everyone joined in with “the phoneeee we’ll be right thereeee”
23:47 omg this exact interaction happened with me and my dad but i had already heard of the Beatles beforehand so it just went like “…do you know who those people are in real life?” “Yeah they’re a band right” “….i give up.”
Gurl forgot about the episode where the Wonder Pets gout stuck in the belly of a whale (Johnna style) and have to rely on the animal they just saved and the sea creatures they saved in the past TO SAVE THE WONDER PETS.
I remember that episode being kinda wholesome, cuz at the beginning, the Wonder Pets were questioning if the folks they saved remembered them at all. So having the creatures they rescued RESCUED THEM cuz "they help me, so I shall help them" was super cute and heartwarming.
I forgot the name of the episode, but I watched it over and over on a dvd than had other episodes from it Nick Jr shows at that time (Little Bill, Blue's Clues, Backyardigans, etc)
"Save the Wonder Pets"
@@isobelmiller7464 THANKS
@@queenofuganda7718 You're welcome
Speaking of Oobi, one of the puppeteers is the same guy who played Bear in Bear in the Big Blue House
Idk if it's something you'd cover, it's very slice-of-life and wholesome, but at the same time I feel the need to recommend it for a future video because of that. There's a lot of interesting behind-the-scenes stuff about why it was made the way it was, and it honestly makes it more wholesome (and hilarious depending on what you find). Bear's puppeteer did an interview with Defunctland that is both informative and cozy at the same time
Bear in the Big Blue House was my favourite show as a toddler. It’s one of the first shows I can ever remember.
Bruh the potty train song from Bear in the Big Blue House still goes hard asf
@@CloroxBleachiestPOOOOOTTY HEY HEY HEY POOOOOTTY
I think Oobi's history itself is really interesting as well, it's rooted back to Sesame Street (writers and puppeteers worked on both shows) even Kevin Clash, prior voice of Elmo and Stephanie D'Abruzzo who was also in the original cast of Broadway musical Avenue Q
I never saw the show back then but I love puppeteering and I'd like to see Athena's two cents on the show
I find Ming Ming relatable. I feel like she doesn't mean to be mean due to being autistic or unintentionally having NPD. I feel bad for her. I think she's neurodivergent. Same with the rabbit.
Wait you’re right
@@BluffsCastle I have autism and possibly NPD (which I'm getting help for) and I see so much of myself in Ming-Ming.
@@Demonetization_Symbol I'm autistic as well. I may not relate to her, but I understand where you're coming from.
NPD icon Ming Ming. Gonna add her to my list.
I forgive this
Wait, knowing Wonder Pets makes me old? But I haven’t even turned 18 yet! 😭
Same 😭
18:15 yes i believe it because linny is so awesome and cool she is so cool she can go to space and back just like that because she is so awesome
Ming Ming was genuinely my favorite when I watched this show
I just found her adorable and funny
My mom literally made one of her green shirts into a cape and gave me and aviator hat so I could dress like her
same as a kid I would always quote her and had a plush of her don’t know whare it is now tho I actually might still have it
@@aaronbradley430 Awesome! She was just cool to me lol
Bluey is literally such a musical goldmine. You would be surprised
What I like the most is that its music style is instantly recognizable, just like the visual one.
19:05 I have sat here for 5 minutes replaying this scene its so funny to me
Let's be honest, Ming Ming is fricking adorable omfg
Loved this show when I was a literal babbling baba, sitting on the floor in the living room pondering on where my mother went after moving her hands in front of her face.
There was also an episode called "Save the Mouse", where Linny got sick and had to stay in her cage, so Tuck and Ming Ming had to go save the animal without Linny keeping these two together. I don't remember it very well, all I can remember is that the mouse was stuck in a saxophone in the attic of the school.
Also ming ming ask when the bat said blah she said it's a bat thing
I distinctly remember the episode where Ming Ming got stuck with magical tap shoes on and couldn’t stop dancing and so Linny and Tuck had to try to pin her or something and they couldn’t because she physically couldn’t stop moving
But oille did the same thing to tuck and he has been a sassy
I just realized that Linny will die first, not just bc she’s older but bc the life expectancy is shorter for Guinea pigs than for ducks and especially turtles 🥲
The team will die after that (meaning Ming-Ming and Tuck couldn't work together without Linny to keep it going)
This series was probably the most emotional nick jr show ever. A lot of the episodes were so sad, but in a good way. Remember in the episode "The Wonder Pets save the Duckling" is the most emotional episode ever in my opinion.
I never knew photo puppetry was a term! Now i have a word to describe the horror that was Angela Anaconda! (Though that was a bit more mixed media)
10:30 wait! Hold up! LINNY IS A GIRL?! This show was my childhood how did I not know that?😮😅😂
wait! Hold up! HER NAME IS LINNY?!
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 I beilve so.😅
@@jennicornstudio776 hahaha
This is the Blue from Blue’s Clues is a girl situation all over again. To be for real though, I thought Linny was a boy too.
@@disneycartoonfan1137 the thing is I thought her voice was always a bit too high pitched but I thought that was due to the fact that the show was made for preschoolers not that she was a feminine character.
Honestly, the dinosaur being so high-def makes sense(within the pets' imagination theory): the dinosaur is based upon those high-definition sketches of dinosaurs one would find in a book about dinosaurs. Whereas the unicorn is stylised after a book featuring a unicorn: unrealistic and cartoon-y.
Holy flipping shit this might have to be my favorite lore video yet. I had to rewatch the segments about Ming Ming like five times because I couldn't stop CACKLING. What makes it funnier is that she's the most popular character despite Linny being the leader so the idea of her being borderline evil has me asphyxiated.
I did hear that theory of her having NPD which would make sense
Honest I’m an Ollie fan, not only because my brother is named that, but because he just struck me as lonely
He always seemed like he just wanted to be included and Ming Ming didn’t let him, and he just seemed like he didn’t know how to socialize
Perhaps that was me, an autistic child with no friends, projecting! But I’m honestly just upset Ming Ming was mean to Ollie. Or anyone for that matter
Eh I also had no friends as a kid and I hated Ollie because he’d keep waking up his friends by singing that he can’t sleep
He had his annoying moments for sure, but as a whole I never really hated him. I actually quite liked him in Save The Skunk, he had some pretty hilarious lines and even ended up learning a lesson at the end, it was nice.
I mean considering Ponyos relationship with her parents, turbulent history, and hyperactivity, ya I don't think she's going to be quiet teenager. She probably end up well rounded later on though.
As a kid: Ming Wing is adorable
As an adult: Ming Wing is annoying
3:35 It ended last year, but Let’s Go Luna has incredible music. It is centered on world travel, so in each episode, the music is styled after the country and it is beautiful. Ready Jet Go also has pretty great music, composed by the legendary Jim Lang. From jazz, to 50s rock, to musical theater, it’s good stuff. Sofia the First has Broadway-level songs.
PBS Kids is the only kids show channel I know that still airs extremely good shows on it's platform nowadays. They're mediocre at worst and masterpieces at best fr
Sofia's sister show, Elena of Avalor, has some good ones too.
I remember when let’s go Luna was a really new show and I loved it when it came out
Really?
