We did take KP for granted and it was a tragedy that he didn't play more tests. He was better to watch than Botham or Gower.

I'd always rate his match saving 158 at the Oval to protect England's 2-1 Ashes lead his greatest ever. Yes, he was dropped twice, but then under tremendous pressure he racked up those runs while also taking Brett Lee and Warnie to the cleaners. Everything that the 'opposition annihilating' Australian team of that era threw at him on that day 5 in those atrocious conditions, he faced with aplomb while also smashing 7 sixes , an Ashes record that probably still stands.

Andrew Strauss has done many good things for English cricket not least changing our attitude and fortune in one day cricket, but his inability to patch up his differences with KP will always be an unfortunate legacy in his time in English cricket.
The team comes first though... this isn't the kevin pietersen team its the England cricket team and you don't start tx'ing the opposition and saying the things he said

Huge talent and an ego to match. Wish he'd had a longer test career, he's one of the best batsmen England have ever had, and just what the team needed at the time. Just a shame he was such a divisive character off the field, because he was a truly special player out in the middle.

Cast as a mercenary for wanting to play in the IPL. Now we get as many of our English into the IPL as we can. Majority of batsmen now try to play Test cricket as aggressive as he did but fail. He was a pioneer and the choir boys in the ECB fucked it up.

lol Sri Lanka has always had a crappy bowling attack with slow bowlers :P Vaas was their fastest spinner.
@Aveen Umesh lol apart from Murali, which other world-class bowler did you even have? Even Murali was overrated, picking wickets on dusty crappy pitches in the subcontinent. At least India has had one or two decent fast bowlers over the last 20 years, and now we have a battery of 5-6 top bowlers, consistently at 140 kph+.
They broke the mould with KP.
