Soarin' Around the World: The disappointing reality

- Soarin Around the World is the spiritual successor of the Original Soarin Over California, but, is it really better? Ever since Disney replaced the original attraction, I've always felt like there was something off with the newer Soarin Around the World Attraction. At first, I thought it was an underlying feeling of nostalgia, not being able to let go of the classic Soarin Over California to a point where it would affect my enjoyment of its replacement. However, after taking time to break down and analyze each segment of the attraction, it became very obvious that there was something off with the presentation of Soarin Around the World.

Excellent video Kris! I love the pine and orange scents in the California version 🌲🍊 plus the buildup from LA to over Main Street. It brings happy tears 🥲
I have to say, you did a spectacular job at hitting the nail on the head about what made Soarin Around the World so lackluster compared to the original. For a long time, I just felt like the new ride was lacking, just wasn't as good, but I could never quite put my finger on why. Mostly I tell people it's the CGI.
With the original attraction, they kept the CGI at a minimum, instead choosing to let the landscapes and scenery speak for itself. But with the new attraction, they inserted so many cgi animals and CGI enhancements to some locations (cleaning up views). During the Taj Mahal scene, I always felt that that whole scene was CGI...it might not be, but it LOOKS CGI. And the thing is, the audience knows the polar bears, whales, elephants, eagles etc...are all CGI, and it does more harm to the scene than good...because it takes away the reality and the sincerity of the scene. When I see those polar bears, I don't think it enhances the scene, instead it pulls me out of reality and makes me think I'm watching a landscape that could have very well been generated on a computer as well. That's why the Taj Mahal scene looks like CGI to me, because who's to say it isn't?
The landscapes should speak for themselves, no need to put animated Elephants in the Africa scene to tell us we're seeing an African Savannah, hire a safari truck to drive out in that valley, we'll get the idea once we see that and Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background.
didn't realize a lot of these things until i watched this video. good job! then again soarin has never really been an attraction i payed much attention to. Great job on the video!
I think it’s funny how dated the Epcot ending became over in Florida. Also, the original Disneyland ending was clearly filmed during the holiday season lol
it's rumored that soarin' over california is coming back to the soarin' at epcot. this is a big deal to me because i don't think the epcot soarin' was changed back to the original version since 2016
The banana Eiffel tower is horrendous and immersion breaking.
I think the ski scene from the original was Lake Tahoe. Salt lake ski resort is in Utah, which isn’t in California, for which the ride was named at the time. But to me, the only upgrade that’s worth it is the transitions from scene to scene, which is a huge improvement over the hard cuts from Soarin’ over California.
Ya, I noticed I accidentally said Salt Lake earlier, but I had already worked on the video for 3 weeks at that point so I had to get it out as soon as I could. I did start saying Lake Tahoe later on in the video though.
I think the addition of the transitions as well as the new and interesting locations added were good upgrades over the original attraction.
Absolutely brilliant content.
